This should be my last event on street tires. :firedevil

I'll be there. Especially after the Russ ripped me, that last run left me feeling a little...unfulfilled. :D

I'm trying to scare up some proper rubber by then. I have to be out of town all of next week, through Saturday, so not much time.

Waiting on Mr. Graser to give me a call back, even though it means I'll be running on LOOSIERS. ;)

As usual...my motivation is to get out there, have some fun, make some noise, and take in the scenery.

P.S. I'm not much on NASCAR, but those boys know how to shop for strong, light and cheap wheels. (13lbs each at well under $150 each) I'm cooking up something that should let me get 225s on the front and 265s on the back (up from 205/225.) Let's just say it involves a Louisville Slugger and a 3lb sledge. My instruments of choice for delicate work. But...that's about as much rubber as you can put on an MR2 without getting stupid.

I want to here more about these wheels. What manufacturer and where did you get them?

Tyler H
06-16-2006, 02:31 PM
I don't have a set yet..still trying to figure out how much offset I can get with coilovers. I'm not blessed with spacious wheel wells like you Mustang boys. We in the import community pride ourselves on doing it the hard (read: expensive) way. Spinwerkes is the mfg of the wheels in the picture. They are aluminum and a little more expensive. I'm going with spun steel from Diamond Racing to save a few bucks at the expense of a couple pounds each.

I personally think they look badass, but I'm sure I'll get ridiculed by the 'import' scene. :D

FWIW - I bought a pair of 15x10 steel wheels from Diamond Racing for the dragstrip. They were a custom offset (build to order) and Diamond was GREAT to work with. I ordered them on Tuesday and they were here on Friday. Great service!

Me either, I'm just looking for some seat time with the R compounds and a benchmark before I make some suspension changes.

Will we be running the usual 411 course, or the alternative design?

Hey Everybody!!<O:p</O:p

Hope you are ready for the AX at 411 this Sunday with the SCMC. I have talked to the track about starting earlier to beat some of the heat.<O:p</O:p

So the schedule for this Sunday will be:<O:p</O:p

Gates at 0700 hours
Tech 0800 to 0900 hours
Drivers Mtg. 0900 to 0930 hours<O:p</O:p
First Car Off 0930 hours<O:p</O:p
Gates closed 1800 hours

We will have three run groups of ~ 7 cars each. <O:p</O:p

Each group will make 4 passes per session which should allow for 8 runs each.<O:p</O:p

Group 3 works the track while Group 1 runs
Group 1 works the track while Group 2 runs<O:p</O:p
Group 2 works the track while Group 3 runs<O:p</O:p
<O:p</O:p

Wow! Looks like Rick got :p happy! :rotf:

Rick, you may wanna stay on the owners/whoever about getting a key for the chains on the gate and/or remind them the night before to have it unlocked.

At the PCA event, there was a backup at the gate because they forgot to unlock it and we had to get them to authorize us to physically CUT the chain for track entrance.

Just a heads up as to avoid any delay's.

Man, I really hope the forcast shapes up. I looked at the 10 day forcast, and it was scattered thunderstorms for everyday. I think the weather man went on vacation, and just copied and pasted before he ran from his office on friday:rolleyes:

I disagree. Everyone paid for 8 runs. If you choose to drive 8 different cars, then that's the drivers perogative. Seems to me that you drove more than one car at this event too. When will you be sending in your 2nd $45?

As far as the "run what you brung" goes - not everyone can afford to "brung" a $65K Z06 or a $130K Porsche GT3. But if you can con a drive in someone else's, you should get credit for the time.

Just MHO.

That statement by me was intended to be read as a petulant child trying to change the rules to fit the way the outcome of the event would most favor him. I have no problem whatsoever in all seriousness if Jayne is willint to turn the Madman loose with her car. :p

The little white vert is BACK!!!:D Yep yesterday was a good day. Ran a personal best of 63.188 and I felt that I left some time on the course a few places. My fault not the cars though. :( All the top 5 cars were on new or very fresh, very sticky rubber except one. The white rabbit we all like to chase was on year old tires and definitely underpowered compared to the other cars in that group. It has gotten to the point that you need to be in the 64s to get into the top ten now! Everyone is improving and it is great to see folks having this much fun.

Who knows next time we might go for 12 runs each if we can control the Cone KING. Speaking of which I counted up the cones and it was no contest the Cone KING had nearly double the number of cones of anyone else. Way to go Terry:rotf:

I appreciate all of you who attend and thanks for pitching in and helping. Kelly thanks for picking up and returning the equipment trailer!!! I knew if I called the taxi stand I cold get that delivery made. :p With everyone keeping the pace going we all got 8 runs yesterday had plenty of fun and we wrapped up around 4:00PM. I actually got home before dark and got the times posted!!;)

Thanks again folks and pass the word we will be back in August!!!

So are Jayne's. Mine were track virgin's just like CathDoc. The white rabbit was on the same tires as last year but then he is so easy on tires you could almost call them virgin...NOT!!!

I don't know why but I am trying to give the white rabbit some slack.

As for the top three Vettes we will see what happens in August. Madman will be back in his stroker Z06 so he will be doing drifting displays instead of bringing it!!

We will see if CathDoc can repeat and as for you 03 Ragtop you are in my sights dude! I really think I can shave a second or two off and get into the low 62s or maybe even a 61.:fordflag: :burnout:

TonyBolton

Sorry for the late response - I've been out of town (again). OK, I'll buy the fact that I have recaptured the Cone King title, but 27 cones? That just doesn't seem possible. Did you forget to count the cones in the 2nd session?

Tore down the short block yesterday. 2 pistons toasted but fortunately the taxi will live another day. The bad news is that it won't be alive before 8/27 411. You can scratch me from the list :( this time around. I'm sure Terry, Kelly, Shawn and Bobo will not disappoint.

At the rate things are going, I be at this event with the new motor in the car. It will not be dyno tuned until September, so I'll be a little down on optimal horsepower due to a safe (rich) break in tune. But unless something goes wrong during the install, I'll be there.

Need some info....

I will be making my vigin trip to the 411 event due mostly to the prodding from the Monjot men and cannot wait to again drive my Cobra the way it was meant to be driven. I have not been at a driving event since rollbars were made mandatory for convertibles but was a junkie before that.

I will not be arriving in the Knoxville area until 8-9 p.m. on Saturday night as I am the head coach of a youth football team w/ a game at 11:30 Sat morning here in the Cleveland area. I should get on the road btwn 1-2 p.m. I need a hint on where to get a hotel room that is close to the track or close to where most everyone stays. I do not have a reservation yet and need to get on this in the next couple days.

Thanks in advance for your response and guidance..much appreciated!

http://www.svtcobraclub.com/forums/showthread.php?t=11954&page=2&pp=40

Here is where they have looked to stay.

Ok guys, the Country Inn and Suites on Campbell Station Rd. gets $99 to $119 per room per night (std. room or suites), a $10 discount ($89 to$109) can be had if you reserve and prepay it online, AAA or Military, the discount rate in not cancellable. Last year we stayed at the Country Inn in Alcoa, TN, their discount rate is $79 this year. I am going to opt for the Campbell Station Road since it is more convenient for Hazman and he's doing me quite the favor. Let me know what you think.....Mark.

Rick, you have your work cut out for you when you get the trailer. They had timer failure before we even got the first car off and we had to STOPWATCH the whole event.

Hopefully you can figure out what the problem is.
Timing system is fixed. Thanks for the heads up Tony. There was a break in the power lead on the negative terminal inside the insulation. No power no timers!!!:o

We have the power!!!!:bounce:

Yeah, everybody made it home. That storm we went through was pretty crazy.

Rick, thanks to you and Jane for your hospitality. We all had a lot of fun. I think Mike R and Mark P are hooked. I'm going to work on my braking and cornering in my subdivision.

We made it home in good shape. I was in bed at 2:30am. 500 miles from the track to my garage. No issues, other than rain north of Lexington. Well worth it and I'm sure we will be down for atleast 1 session next year. Not sure I will see you in Gingerman.

Thanks to those who organized and put on the event. I had fun throwing the white whale around the banks trying to chase all the Mustang boys and the others. Anyone have any pictures of my Thunderbird on the course? Good meeting you guys, too.
