Yep another Mazda vrs 04 Cobra shootout. I did not even have a chance to warm up the motor and was only a block away from my house when this silver Mazda RX8 pull along side and begins reving the rotary mill in hopes to see what it can do against my Silver 04 Cobra. At least I had a good warm up period in the garage before setting out. I was not in the mood to race anyway so I let the Mazda have the advantage. It did not require much to overtake it. Then came the red light challenge. HAHAHA:rotf: Once again I let the Mazda have the advantage (have to make it challenging by giving the other driver the handicap). At least this driver knew when to give up. I could tell by the tone of exhaust note he or she was trying. So much for that. I should have toyed with it more instead of ripping past it like it was standing still.

I have a little rice burner for my 2nd car, with a few upgrades and I still know there are somethings you just don't mess with and a cobra is most diffently one of them.

You know, These people will never learn, Who in there right or wrong twisted warped little minds ever thought a little import would beat the Icon of all muscle cars. I see so many of these guys and gals driving there little Honduuuhs and Mazdas and Accuras and even Saturns with these huge coffee cans almost scraping the asphalt. Everytime I watch NOPI TV the first thing they mention when asked "So what have you done to this bad boy?" answer,"Its got uh a after market body kit from rica-roni,carbon fiber hood, 6ft carbon fiber wing,20 inch rims wrapped in Z ratted tires, Kenwood this, Kenwood that, chrome strut tower brace, chrome valve covers,2 inch drop, "How much money do you think you put in it?" "Bout 30 thousand" Thirty thousand so they say, Pleeeease, A minature crotch rocket would be that thing. Good job though on Blistering the Mazda.:D

I usually drive more conservatively on the street than at the track. There was no doubt in my mind that the Rx8 was nothing more than a meager opponent. Why else did they put suicide doors on it? After all that is the honorable thing to do when you loose, right? There is much more that could have been done to that vehicle to make it much more than it is... but it was marketed to compete with the other imports and not domestic monsters.

I've seen a few of those RX8's around they look sharp. Not as good as a Cobra. So their a sharp loser, and your a darn good looking winner. Stay safe.

I basically do not do anything extreme on the street like I would at the drag strip. Too many unexpected things could happen as well as driver error. There is no thrill like racing at the track. I may toy around on the street but on the defensive side of it than the agressive side as I would be on the race track.

Looks like the RX8 has more show than go. Having a 1.3L rotary with only 238Hp and a meager 159ft-lb of torque weighing in at 3029lbs does explain alot. That is alot of weight to push around considering the size of the vehicle.
