I just thought I would throw up a post in the new section trying to pool us together to see who was all going to the April 411. I know there are at least 4 or 5 of us interested. Better get those registrations in to Rick asap, before all the spots are full.
1. Mike Monjot 03 cobra
Mark 01 cobra...had to cancel, will have to wait till next time
2. Andrew 97 cobra
3. Tony '94 coupe
4. Chris '97 Cobra
5.
6 .
Have to add a few more spots, can't beat that:bounce:

I'm currently checking into the roll-bar deal that we talked about on the car. For anyone who wasn't there, we were thinking that for 411 you might not need a roll bar. I'm hoping that is true, because i'd love to go. I already e-mailed rick, so i'm just waiting to hear back from him.
As long as its ok to go without the bar, and assuming there are openings left (only 36 can go), i'll be in for it. I'm crossing my fingers! :bounce:

Alright all you verts out there that were wondering...talked to Rick about the 411AX insurance ruling for this year, and he said that we ARE aloud to run WITHOUT a roll bar, but I believe the top has to be up if you don't have one.
I know there were a few of you buckeyes that showed interest, but didn't know what the rules were gonna be on rollbars.
Tally me up mike...I'm good to go! Be sure to keep us informed where we are meeting to make our caravan down there! :bounce:
For anyone else wondering, as of today (Feb 17th), there are quite a few spots open. I hear they fill up quickly the closer we get though, so I wouldn't wait. This would be a great way to kick off the buckeye season! :D

Dropped my registration in the mail today...Chalk me down for the 9th. :bounce:
Why do i feel like i'm the only one in this conversation? :doubt:

Sorry Andrew, been super busy this week. alsmost 70 hours at work last week, and after friday, i will be over 65 this week. between that and ordering stuff from billetflow, autozone, hidden hitch, and uhaul this week, along with installing my new JLT CAI, and old front sway bar, not much time for the net.
Anywho, I also dropped my registration in the mail, so at least three snakes will be from the north this year. hopefully we can round up a few more

Thats ok mike...i wasn't really refurring to you...more of an overall comment that it's surprisingly a lot more quiet in this forum then i'd have imagined. Don't worry...we're gonna have the numbers comin in time...
I figured 5 of us to go down. I know we can pull a couple more. We gotta check with mike reddinger too...I know he was thinkin of it as long as the rollbar ruling stood.
I'm pretty pumped from all the videos i've seen! :D

The rollbar ruling is as follows...you can run without a rollbar but you must be on street tires and not race tires. If you have race tires, then you cannot run unless you have a rollbar in the convertible. These are insurance rules, not the club's rules.

Sign up another buckeye :). I just sent in the registration today for the April 9th autocross. I'm in the same boat as Stavesacre - this will be my first track experience and I have to sort out a helmet (either buy one or borrow, etc..) and figure what best to do to the cobra (replace brake fluid, pads, etc.. ). Any advice there would be greatly appreciated and maybe at the dyno day or something, we can go over some pointers, suggestions, etc..
Looking forward to this for sure :rotf:

Well so far, from what i've taken in from previous posts on the matter of AX, making sure your tires are at higher PSI (i'm assuming around 44) seems to be important considering how youll be takin turns so much faster and you don't wanna be rolling onto your sidewalls. Granted that seems to be something you could do at the track, and not really as big of a deal now...
As for other things that I can think of, oil changes and appropritate levels seem to be up on the list too given the higher RPM range we'll be coloring. Also seems kinda like a gimme as well, but its kind of a priceless nesesscity though.
If you have any doubt that your brakes are starting to wear, especially any tweeting, that's a must to get that in order. If the pedal is just depressing a lil more, topping off those DOT4 levels couldn't really hurt either. If you happen to have a strut tower brace that covered the engine compartment, it would be a good idea to toss that back on for more structural regidity during all those twists and turns...I know some people took them off because it covered a good part of the engine and didn't make it look at "pretty" :doubt:
As for any other pointers, well, as you mentioend, we'll be sure to carry it on at dyno day. For a rookie that hasn't even been to an event before, I know that I sure seem to be oozing with information
Hope that helps to at least get you on yur toes with it, and the one thing that you might wanna have in order for the dyno day alone is the oil change. I'm sure that couldn't hurt either...

I'm going to make the trip also, going to drop the reg. in the mail this week. What's the ruling on the helmets as far as the rating needed to run the autocross.

I've contacted mike r. and dave d. about the event. Mike really wanted to (especially with his extensive KB suspension upgrades) but can't because of family ties and time restraints. Dave says he's in the air right now, but don't count him out yet.
We've already got more then I thought, so I think we've gonna have a pretty dang nice turnout for an even 400 miles away! Pretty excited for the 411! :D
Let keep um growin though bucks!

Snell 2000 or better.
Could someone please elaborate a tad on what these requirements are and how they relate to each other. I saw in the information for the Talladega get together that the helmet requirement was SA 00 or better but that this would be the lsat year that the SA 00 would be acceptable (I think I have this quoted correctly). Is Snell 2000 better than SA 00 and if so will it meet all requirements everywhere that we go? Additionally, I was browsing the Jegs website (we have the store here in Columbus so it's convenient) and I saw SA 2005 ratings as well as SA2000. Is 2005 higher than 2000 and if so i assume that would meet our requirements?
Anyway, a little guidance here would be appreciated.
Thanks!
Hazman

More than you ever wanted to know about Snell ratings for helmets can be found at http://www.smf.org/
SA Rated Helmets:
Snell "SA" (Sports Application) rated professional helmets are designed for auto racing and provide extreme impact resistance and higher fire protection.
M Rated Helmets:
Snell "M" (Motorcycle) rated helmets are designed for motorcycling and other motorsports. They offer slightly less protection than SA rated helmets.
What are the key differences between SA and M Rated Helmets:
SA standard requires flammability test while the M standard does not.
SA standard has rollbar impact test while M standard does not.
SA standard allows narrower visual field than M standard (Some SA helmets aren't street legal).
How do I know if my helmet meets the necessary Snell specifications?
SCMC rules will allow you to use the current Snell specification, as well as the previous Snell specification. So, for the 2006 season, you could use Snell M00/SA00, or Snell M05/SA05 helmets.

Thanks, that really helped to clear things up. So, I'm taking that SA00 was equal to SA2000, and this number obviously refers to the year of the standard. SA 2005 therefore would be the latest standard and therefore would likely be the better choice in chosing a new helmet today - correct?
One final question (I hope..lol). Open faced versus closed. Are open faced helmets allowed and if so, are they worth considering due to my perceived comfortability factor?

I wear an open face. My next one will be closed. I plan to keep doing track events and I am looking at head restraint systems. They require a closed face helmet.

That's ok...i'll bet we can find one more before it gets too much closer! :D
Hopefully he'll be able to make a later run this year. It does happen 3 times a year. Ain't that the bling-bling? ;)

I know this may seem a lil early, but does anyone know when we're gonna be leavin for the drive down, or i'm assuming we would be forming a caravan down there. Considering how it's going to Sunday, would that mean that Saturday would be when we leave? I'm tryin to finalize some plans, and I didn't know what everyone else was thinkin. Feel free to chip in guys! :)

I figured we'd discuss this Sunday at the Dyno day, but I did talk to Mike about this briefly last Sunday. Saturday would be the day to travel down and I'm game caravaning down with as many that want to. Mike is heading down early to get a tune done so I imagine he's leaving Thursday or maybe early Friday. We also need to decide on a place to stay Sat night and decide if we're gonna hoof it home Sunday night or Monday morning. I took Monday off work already so I'm pretty flexible.

Well, like tony said, with my current a/f problem, I might not even be able to run the 411. God willing, we will figure out this problem on sunday, and I will be able to drive down with ya'll on sat the 8th. IF not, I am going to have Dan at Pro-dyno look at my car on Friday the 7th, so I will be heading down early on the 6th. As for sat, I am going to be heading to Hazman's house, to install a rollbar in my cobra. You guys are more than welcome to hang out, but there are a ton of things to see, especially if this is your first time in the area. You all could head over to the dragon, which is the craziest road you will ever drive on (BUT PLEASE BE SAFE, I KNOW WHAT CAN HAPPEN:( ) But it is something that every car lover should see. Like tony said, we can talk about this this weekend.

Hey Mike...i never did hear exactly what did happen with you the first time around. Care to relieve the last moments of yur 01 again? :twitchy:

I will see if I can round up some of the pics... No , I totally fine talking about it, just pretty crazy event in my life. Like dave said, I have a different outlook on every day that my day and I are around now. But like I said earlier, if done safely, and within each persons limits, the dragon is the coolest road I have even been on. And every body should experience it at least once, especially in a cobra!

Well, it looks like it is going to be just three buckeyes heading south. I hope that your guys, tony and chris, can meet up and drive down together. Like I said before, i will be heading back after, so maybe we can head back up north as a group.
I am going to be sticking to the original plan, and am heading down on friday morning, and then heading over to ricks sat morning. Once you guys get into the area, you can give me a call, if you have nothing to do. I would recommend running the dragon. YOU WILL HAVE A BLAST!! And then maybe we all can get together sat night. Can't wait for this weekend. Knock on wood, and pray that the weather will play fair. Can't wait to see ya'll. Mike

Sounds like a plan Mike. Chris and I are heading down Sat likely early enough to go check out the dragon. I have your cell number with me and you are welcome to give me a call at 614-425-5707. Maybe we can hook up Sat night for some chow or something.

Sorry that i'm not able to make it guys. You have no idea how mad it makes me that plans didn't work out like i'd wanted  Runnin the dragon on a beautiful sunny day with the top down sounds pretty DANG tough to beat...even if i've been handed amazing seats at the indians season opener. I'm sure i'll be thinkin of you guys while i'm likely to be doing hardly anything Saturday afternoon. I'm gonna see if I can work out a trip to Tennee later this year though.
Hope you guys have fun, and stay safe! I EXPECT some pics from the dragon, as well as from yur 411 run! Tear it up for me fellas! :D

NO JOKE.
If it were up to me i'd have easily pawned the tickets off myself . However I owed this one to my girl so all i could do was eat it. What were the odds it was this weekend?!
Yea, and it didn't taste good. :p

Hiya Mike,
I'm game if it's not an imposition on anyone. We're leaving Columbus at 7am on Saturday so there's time to coordinate plan changes, etc. I have a reservation and confirmation number for the Microtel but they didn't require a credit card number so I'm not adverse to making last minute changes ;).
