Well, we got back about 9:30 last night. 146 miles on a flat bed from Austin to Cypress, $380 later and my car is back in the garage broken. Looks like the halfshafts gave out in the curves. It hasn't been 1,000 miles since the dealer had my rearend apart, so it is possible they left the halfshaft nuts a little loose. I will be taken it back to them now.

I doubt that your half shafts gave out, I think your bearings gave out, they could left out one of the spacers or they may not have torqued them enough when they reassembled the rear end.

BUMMER!! Sorry to hear that Keith.
I wonder if the reused those axle lock nuts one time too many... and it backed off???
Are the CV boots blown open???(blue grease would be everywhere)
Or was it the rear axle bearing grease??? They are a sealed design... but can sling it when they fail :(
If they pull the back diff cover off again... ask them to use the firmer grey RTV--- TA-29(Motorcraft #)... I think it's a lot better for that app. than the the black stuff.
Good luck with it... If theres a way I can help... let me know.

RTV or silicone is bad... gasket maker seems to be the only thing that will seal it.
I hate to hear that you had trouble. Glad you got home ok.

I also wanted say thanks to everyone that pulled together and gave me a hand. We had plenty of tools and know how, just didn't have the right problem that was fixable on the road. I'm thinking that the Halfshafts are ok, but the bearings gave, but it may have still damaged the halfshaft. Either way, I'm pushing for the revised halfshafts since I still have the crappy ones they installed in the first run cars. I also noticed my rear tie rods were over torqued and the grease cap was split in half.
Lately it just seems like one thing after another. I was looking forward to the time away hanging out. Yes, it does put a sour taste in my mouth about another Austin cruise. Fact is, I'm thinking of selling the car again, I just don't know what to replace it with.

Dude....no thanks necessary. I know if I was in the similiar jam or anyone else for that matter people would have pulled together to help out. That's the thing I love about this club....people are so willing to help you out in times of a bind. Thanks Phil!!!

I just spent the last hour in the '93 for sale section on SVTP. Here I go round and round again. I just missed a bone stock 43k mile red one for $11k in Waco. I guess this back and forth thing is something Phil and I have in common. We just need to each have a nice '93 and '03 and trade every month back and forth. :bounce:

Keith,
I will check on this to make sure, but I think my neighbor still has her 93 limited edition (red) Cobra sitting inside her garage. Last time I spoke with her, she was trying to figure out how much to ask for it. It is bone stock with 58K miles on the odometer and is in excellent shape except for a small ding on the left front quarter panel, and a small scratch on one of the rear quarter panels. Both of these could be fixed easily without alot of expense. I sure wish I were in a position to buy it. I would make a race car out of it.
Anyway, not sure how much she wants, but I figure it is worth between $12K and $15K or so...
let me know if you are interested in coming over to see it and I will check to see if she still has it. She is the original owner and I know for certain it has never been wrecked.

What color 93 are you looking to get Keith? Andy neighbor's look really nice.
The guy from Dallas that had the Teal 93 on the cruise told me that he will be selling his shortly, so if you were wanting Teal and need to contact him let me know.

Not really sure. I just want a low mileage car in good stock shape. I would prefer either red or teal. Black cloth would be even better. I don't really want another black one.

That is out of my price range. I saw that guy on SVTP. Looking at the autotrader, it does look like I will get a good amount for the '03, I just need to make sure I can actually go through with the sale and not regret it. If I do make the jump, I will want to be able to pay of my truck and get a nice '93. It is still hard to decide and it is easy to talk about selling the '03 now since it is dead in my garage. The main issue I’m having it cutting the HP in half. I don’t know if I can live with a slow car as a weekend driver. If that red car is truly stock, I will make sure to keep it that way. I wouldn’t even plan to install a catback.

Well, the '03 is not going into the dealer for another week and a half. Then it will take about a week if not longer for the repair. That is about 3 weeks out. Then I would have to get it back and put a few hundred miles on it to make sure it is ok. Then I would be looking to sell it, if I decide to.
I would still like to look at the red '93 before hand. If needed, I will get a loan to buy it and pay it off once I sell the '03. Yes, I own the '03 outright, which makes selling it easier, but I am still paying interest on my truck and every month I wait, the more it costs me. Not to mention $100 a month insurance on the '03. If I buy the '93 ahead of selling the '03, I will be paying interest on it also.
I'm not sure on the price yet. I will have to do some more research. Don't wait on me though if you find a car the right color and price.

Well, your cars are always very well keep and if I did buy another 03 like I want I would want to buy from someone that takes as much care for there cars as they do there family...I should find out some time soon when the guy that is going to buy mine..hopefully in the next couple of weeks but like I said I really need to get this debt out of my hair before I even look at another car..
If you do sell hope you wait for me to buy it... :D

That is the truth. The only thing Ford did wrong was use a crappy sealant on the rearend from the factory, which started this whole thing. Now the IRS has been apart so many times, the crap is worn out. I'm going to push them to replace every little thing wrong with it.

I sent you an email message from this site. I spoke to the owners of the 93 Cobra tonight. It is still sitting inside their garage. I don't think they have been very diligent in trying to sell it. It would have been sold long ago if they were trying even just a little. It is a very nice car. I sure wish I could buy it!! :(
