Registration for Midamerica driving school/ SCMC national meet is now open. The event is October 26-27 at Pacific Juction Iowa at the brand new 2 mile track called Midamerica motorplex and will double as the clubs national meet.
Passengers will be allowed with some normal and reasonable limitations.
We are asking people that know that they will be going to register early so we can get a good indication of who is all going.
If you have any questions, please contact either Dean or I.

count us in. We just got home and my form is printed out. Now if I can get Brian to pay it as a business expense, I will be in great shape. If not, I will hand deliver my check and save .34 anyway.

Bonny,
The average temp that time of the year is in the 50's, so I think it will be a pretty safe bet that we won't see the weather we had at Gingermann.

Well now that you've said that we will have the S____ word happen to us! I will be there with my family in tow. My son will be 14 by the time we get to this event and I would like to know if he can ride with me?? Do NOT speak of the weather again or you truly will jinx us! :D ;)

I'm the other way around BD.

If I talk about it - it doesn't happen.

If I don't talk about it - it does.

So, what would ya llike me to do?

Speaking of 14 - my son will be so excited !!

Except for Jimmy being there at Gingerman last year, he is usually the only boy around, and gets a bit lonely.

As far as riding with you - Tommy was only able to go with us during the lunch hour lap ....

had to be 18 or over .. :-(

I think - unless they change that

BD,
Like Bonny said, the cuttoff for passengers will most deffinately be 18. We will probly have a touring session over lunch for family members that will be paced that kids MAY be able to participate in. Alot of that is gona be controlled by the insurance company.

Road Atlanta - Panoz allows riders under 18. My son rode with me last march when he was 13. When I was there last November, I was about to sign a release for my 12 year old daughter to ride, but we ended up not doing it.

That's the only one I've heard of that allows it though. I was sort of surprised that they did since they advertise 16 or older for passengers.

Tom,
The Road America event we run in April last year also allowed younger passengers. I gave Bonny and Tims nephew a ride and he was deffinately younger than 16(not sure what age he was) So it happens, but with the hastle Dean and Tony had getting passengers at all for Gingermann, I think it would be wishful thinking to get it allowed at either Gingermann or Mid America.

That's really cool about Panoz, did they charge you for an extra person?? Their letter they sent after I registered said the price was per PERSON not per car. I figured this meant per person driving??? At least I hope so!! :D :D :D

Yeah, it's per driver. There is no charge for spectators or passengers as far as I've seen.

I have gotten a Hotel lined up for out October event.

We will be staying at the Courtyard by Marriott downtown in Omaha, Ne. They have plenty of rooms available for our dates, so if your going you may want to start making reservations.

Courtyard Omaha Downtown
1-402-346-2200
The cost should be $79.00 per night(make sure you confirm the rate and let me know if there is a problem)

I just talked to Brian a few minutes ago. When I tried to make my reservation for the Marriott the gal in reservations had no idea what I was talking about. Brian gave me the name of the guy to talk to and he said that he is going to set up a block of rooms for the SCMC Cobra Mustang Club. He wasn't happy with just the initials, thus the long name. So, now if you call and mention the SCMC it should be in the computer and you should get the 79.00 rate. However, the man's name is Tom Helm and he is very nice and wants you to ask for him if you have any problems. His ext. number is 601.

P.S. Tom Helm just left a message on my answering machine. He said that if you want a king bed give them the code - SCMA. If you would like 2 queens, give them the code SCMB. Any problems, ask for him and he will take care of it.

I had several people try to download the Gingerman form and a password screen kept coming up for them. It worked fine for me too. Rich said to just cancel out of the password box and it should work but there was still several people that could not access it.

I just don't know if we will be able to bring both of them or not - it's just too much to have to worry about and I want to be able to help out as much as we can ..

Lisa,
The best way to describe it is:

one car one driver....pay once.

One car and two drivers(in different sessions) pay for two.

If two people want to share one car and take turns within each session(like mike and Tom Moran do) pay once.

Does that clear it up?

WOW, I did not know that your laws are so strict down there. In canada I took my 6 year old brother out on the track and had no problems. We were going very slow but he could not stop laughing. I guess people just have to cover for themselves from getting sued. BD, tell your kid that I'm sorry he can't go for a ride.

I'll be in town on Thursday night and be around the track to get the Snake prepped for Friday test and tune! ;) ;) THEN ALL OUT ON SAT and SUN! :D ;)

If two people want to share one car and take turns within each session(like mike and Tom Moran do) pay once.

Does that clear it up?

Why pay for two when there is one car. What difference does it make if you are in the same run group? I do not agree with this logic. 1 car, two drivers for 1 price. This is not a car show, and is a hell of a lot more money. Think about all those couples who are out there that want to try and get there better half to join them. I can hear them now. why should we pay twice for one car?

I'm not sure if you understand what we are doing or not so I will try to explain it.

Every session has 4 groups(A,B,C&D) and hopefully we will have at least 4 sessions per day. That means that every paid car runs once every session. Who drives that car in each session, we don't care. If the husband and wife want to trade every other session, that is fine with us.

If I am understanding you correctly, you think that if someone paid for one car and their were 4 drivers to that car then they should be able to run 4 times per session. Is that what you think we should do?

johnbasf

You answered my question Dean. 2 drivers per car. If I'm in A and Dianne is in D we should be able to run in the same session.

cobrabitn
05-11-2002, 02:37 AM
Actually that isn't the way it is supposed to work John. If you run in the A group then Diane can run in the D group in the next session not the same session. Therefore the two of you would get a total of four sessions per day not eight. I think that is the way we did it last year, isn't that right Dean? If you run two run groups per session then you would have to pay for two people.

Hopefully this will help.
Like dean said, there are four groups based on experience(A,B,C,andD). Hopefully we will cycle thru that grouping at least four times each day. For each paid car, you get to run the four sessions, if you and someone else wants to share sessions, that is fine with us. What we are saying is, you cannot pay once, and you drive the B group and have your wife drive the D group, effectivly getting 8 sessions per day for the same one car fee. Does that make sense?

If you remember what Mike and Thomas Moran did at Gingerman last year and did also at Road Atlanta this year, that is fine with us and you only will pay for one car.

Brian

OK guys!! I UNDERSTAND what you are saying!!!! I DON'T agree with it, sorry. Why not let one run A and one run D in the same session????? Is that CLEAR? :D :D I would not run my car that hard in one day but I should have the choice!!

John,
If you decided to give up your A session so someone could run your car in that round in D session for instance, I don't see that as being a problem. If you are saying you should be able to run your car in A AND D sessions(different driver) the same round, then I see that as wrong(assuming you only paid once)

Are we talking about the same thing?

one car - two drivers - two different sessions?

just making sure I get it right also

For Gingerman and Road Atlanta, we didn't have to do that ...

Is that what we can expect out of Aaron at MAM? They even have the wrong logo in the sponsor section on there. I'm not impressed about this one bit!:(

well, i'm throwin 2 pennies in this now.....

michelle and i both were under the impression at gingerman, it's one price one car, whatever session.........i see i misunderstood.

i completely understand why it's the other way around tho. who's to stop me from running A, B, C, or touring, all in one day, after all, car's paid for........right? (not that anyone would do this, just worst case scenario) yeah, i'd like to hang on to the extra change (michelle can't drive anyway, she'll be like a week out from havin the baby), but heck, we gotta pay for the track also....

so it's "per driver" now, not "per car" then.....understand..

The two Second Strike events that I have gone to is 1 CAR, TWO DRIVERS. This is my OPINION, 1 car , two drivers no matter what run group or session. If you have it set up the other way, FINE!!! Please tell me you understand what I am saying!!!

I don't think so Tony. I just went to the calendar and under the www column there is a green dot when you click on it you go to the SCOA web site not ours. Also you're correct that the logo and the link in the sponsor section is not correct either. :( :( :(

I think they get what you're saying John. The way they have it stated it sounds like you should be able to run the car in as many sessions as you want if it is a different driver. I think what they are saying is the fee is per car, per session, RIGHT???

Yes, Greg you are right. As I understand it, this is the way all events(at least in the north) do it. Actually, some don't allow shareing of cars even if you pay for each driver.

I understand your point, John. Hopefully you understand the other side also.

Let's go over this one more time okay?;)

You fee includes one car/person per session and one run group. If you run in two run groups in one session then you pay twice. If you want to run in one session and have Diane run the next session in your place then you can share the car. Other wise why don't we all use John's car and only pay for one car? It doesn't work that way.

Last year, Tim and Bonny paid for two people and ran two different groups during one session. There are four groups per session and as many as five sessions per day. if you run in two different groups then you pay twice. Tom and Mike Moran paid for two people and ran in two different run groups during one session. They alternated groups so the car could cool but they paid for two people.

If you want to alternate who drives in each session then you can do that but they can only run in one group and not two groups during any given session for the reason Steve stated above. We could all use your car and run around the clock all day long and never pay a penny more. I'm sorry if you misunderstood but that is the way we did it last year and that's the way Panoz does it. Remember, you have a wrist band on so they could see if you paid or not? If Diane wants to run then you have to pay two fees unless you want her to take your place during your session even if she is running in a different group. Does all of this makes sense to you?

Ken Walder paid for 1.5 people. His wife will run one day and he will run two days. They will both run in two different groups during one session for ONE day only. I hope you can understand that we have limited availability during each run session and this is the only way we can come up with to be fair to you and the club at the same time. I hope you can understand?;)

If you havn't done so, we need to start getting reservations made at the Hotel. Just remember to identify yourself as a SVT Cobra Mustang Club participant and give them the appropriate code for the type of room you want.
If you want a king bed give them the code - SCMA. If you would like 2 queens, give them the code SCMB. Any problems, ask for Tom Helm and he can help you out.
If you need the contact information for the hotel, go here: http://www.svtcobraclub.com/hotelinfoMAM.htm

Thanks, Brian

Lew and I are taking our RV to Midamerica in Oct. Aaron was very accomodating with us this past weekend and it was fun staying at the track. The track was not locked up at night so you could come and go, but there was a guard in the guardhouse to keep other people out. They had a drag event Saturday night open to the general public. They had several sheriffs on 4 wheelers patroling the area where all of the track cars were and kept everybody away from that area. I am going to call and talk to Aaron and find out if we can have that kind of access in Oct.

I just have to tell you about this past weekend at Midamerica. The Mustang Club of Iowa put on an event. There was a good turnout and it was very well run. First of all, I am not a driver. But I rode some different drivers and listened to what they were saying about the track. They LOVE it. There are no walls, so any time somebody spun out, they had no trouble getting back on the track. The bleachers are up, and you can see the whole track from the bleachers. The guys said that it is a good track for beginners (no walls), but there are some challenging corners that are so much fun. You will NOT be sorry if you make the decision to try this track.

We have a room reserved at the host hotel, and we aren't going to use it. If rooms are tight, and you want our room, please email me. I will probably cancel it in a week or so if I don't hear from someone. you can email me through SCMC.
