I know we are still a few weeks away, but I thought I would start the next round for the 411. I know that I would like to head south at least one more time this year. My father with his new 04 mystic vert would also like to head down. Just start throwing some suggestions on which date, or both:D that you would like to attend. I know that Tony and Chris had a fricken blast last time, and wanted to go again. I know that Andy really wants to head south as well. This time will be driving down with ya'll so we can get a real big caravan!
Just a reminder, the two dates are June 25th, or August 27th

I'm here and wanting to head down on another run this season - just trying to figure out which one atm. My Mom's 70th b-day party is July 26th in Georgia so I'll be there a week so vacation and more importantly funds are gonna be tight around the summer. I should have some things figured out here soon though, so stay tuned :)

I;m still here also, I'd like to make another trip down this year also, probaably be the August event if can fit it in. How'd the OVR school go? I plan on running the events on May 13 and 14, or maybe just the 14th. Hope to see you guys at a local event soon.

THat is cool. As of right now, we are leaning towards the june event, August might be a little crazy.
The drivers school was sweet. I made 15 or so passed, with an instructor, who really helped. It was nice to have somebody in the car, who could point out my mistakes, and give tips for improvement.

For me that's a pretty hectic time the weekend before is an AX in Dayton, that weekend is the Grand Am weekend at Mid Ohio, the next weekend is the USGP in Indy and the weekend after that is an AX in Columbus. I'll be really busy then but I think there are 5 weekends now through the end of Oct I don't have something planned and those I'll probably go to the local dragstrip and hang with my friends that still haven't learned that cars can turn.

That is totally cool chris, I hope to make it out to cooper this weekend. Most likely it will be for the test and tune on sat. That way I can get the most seat time for the money, and most likely with fewer people. So are you running at Mid-ohio or Indy? Or just watching? I have not heard of either of those events? And you will have to let me know when you head to the drag strip. I haev never been to the drag, and would love to try it out, and it would be great to go there with a pro, and give me a few pointers!
psycho43142
05-09-2006, 09:32 PM
No I'm not running at either of them, the Grand Am series is the cars that run the 24 hrs of Daytona and supporting races and the USGP is Formula 1. I'll let you know when I'm going to head to the drag strip.

Well, I don't know if you saw my post, but I had all intentions of going on sunday, until I blew a plug right out of the head on sat. So, needless to say, the cobra is down and out for a while. It is up at the dealer as we speak, to see if they will cover replacing the head, if not, I am going to try and find an engine shop to place a time sert insert aluminum sleeve to replace the threads. Hopefully it will be done before the next 411.
Chris if you know any good engine guys, let me know, I might need some help.

Mike, any update on your Cobra?

Mike it may be just me but I would get new heads. Fixing what you have can lead to future problems. Sleeveing and threading aluminum just sounds weak. I'm not saying it can't be done nor done correctly for a normally assperated car. But blown down, with the numbers your puttung down, well I don't think it will last long enough to say it was worth the time, effort, and money. Lets look at it from a different view. The bad head has to come off for repair anyway. Jezz it's out of the way, why not replace that and do the other side with upgraded heads. New tune and your done. With new better breathing heads vs broke, weakened, and repaired old. Just me I'm sure I've stirred the pot on this but I would want longivity as well as performance.

Update, I had a local engine shop install the heli-coil. He looked down the cylinder with a scope, and said everything looks good internally. He said the insert went in great, and I picked the car up yesterday. He said run it through a few heat cycles, drving the car to running temp, then cool her down, a few times. I am really nervous about the other 7, so after I cool the car down, I am going to change the 7 other plugs to make sure they were done right and torqued down properly. Then a quick oil change to be on the safe side, and she sould be as good as new. Now I have to start a little slush fund for a set of new heads:D , down the road!

Alright cobra owners... After pondering this past months events. I decided that I will not be heading south for the next 411. Cash flow is a little tight, and I want to be able to head south with a strong carvan of snakes. So lets really try and set aside our schedules, and all go down to TN in august. I know Mark P. will be able to go, along with myself and my father. Hopefully Chris and Tony will be able to join in the fun again, and this will hopefully give some of the others to get some time away to come( you know who I am talking about...Mike R, Andy,etc.....). But in the mean time, I am going to start another thread about all attending some car show. I think our own show is a little too far off, but we all could crahs another show as a group, and have a blast. So lets do some talking and see how many people we can get going south.:D

I'm tentative on this one. I'll try but with my trip to GA the end of July and plans for Gingerman in September funds are going to be tight, but as the time gets closer, we'll see how things shape up. It would be nice to run this once more this year.

Sent in my reg. form today....looking forward to it.
I am a rookie....my tires and brakes are under 8,000 miles new and I do not plan on bringing a second set or brake pads. Is this a mistake?
What else should I bring? Is there a work facility at the track if anyone has a big problem?

07-03-2006, 09:44 AM
The only other item that you will need is a helmet. If you don't own one, don't fret, there are a few at the track that you can borrow. You are going to have a fricken blast. Car shows are fun. Crusin with a few buddies is really fun. But there is nothing like putting your snake where it was meant to be, on the track!:D

Well as of right now, for sure we have
Mike M
Mark M
Mike R
Chris A
Mark P
so we will have a pretty good caravan heading south. Tony M might still be going, he will be a last minute call. Can't wait to run the 411 again, I might even be on some new r compound. Not usre if I can get another event out the the current hoosiers, cut one of them, not too bad, might mount it on the car, and drive around a little, make sure she still holds air. We will see! Can't wait to see you all soon, and a little note to Mike R....JUST DO IT!!! Mark P. just purchased a 4-point autopower roll bar, and hopefully will get it in prior to the 411...SO SHOULD YOU!!! Rick Mcnutt offered to help install the sat before the 411. Just something to think about.:D

I'm going to wait till this winter and do the Autopower full cage I think, with a few extra bars, a rear seat delete, subframe connectors, tourque arm/panhard bar, k member and A arms, Koni double adjustable coil overs and move from ESP to SM in SCCA events. Let's not forget Gingerman also.

Sorry, I guess I should have been more specific. THe 411 Raceway is located I believe in Alcoa, TN, just outside of knoxville. IT is a autocross course on a banked oval track. If you do some searches you can find all sorts of pictures and videos. It is a fricken blast. If you are not busy the weekend of August 27th, we would love for you to join our carvan south. You won't be sorry, I can promise you that. Hope to hear from you soon, Mike

Hey guys, do you want me to have the wifey scout out hotels for Saturday night? She use to be a travel agent. Hazman offered to help with installing my roll bar so I'll be bringing that down, will I need to buy some padding for this event? I'm going to get it eventually but I wasn't sure if it was required, thanks again in advance for the install help Hazman, C'ya there.....Mark.
Hazman
07-27-2006, 10:35 PM
Padding is not required on this type of rollbar in most cases. Padding is needed where you or your helmet could hit the bar in an accident.
As for accomodations try the Country Inn and Suites at Knoxville West on Campbell Station Road. It is new. It is on my route to 411 so we could caravan togather to the track and it is clsoe to lots of good restaurants and shopping.
Also it is about 25 minutes from my place so it is close enough that you can head back over once the rollbar is in or the rest of the gang can come hang out at my place while we do the installl.

Sounds like a winner to me, get to play with cars on sat, and run them hard on sunday. Those hotels sound great, they are close enough, that if we wanted to make our own cruise-in that night, we wouldn't have to go that far:D

Ok guys, the Country Inn and Suites on Campbell Station Rd. gets $99 to $119 per room per night (std. room or suites), a $10 discount ($89 to$109) can be had if you reserve and prepay it online, AAA or Military, the discount rate in not cancellable. Last year we stayed at the Country Inn in Alcoa, TN, their discount rate is $79 this year. I am going to opt for the Campbell Station Road since it is more convenient for Hazman and he's doing me quite the favor. Let me know what you think.....Mark.

Made the decision last night to go ahead and come down with you guys to the 411. Taking the wife this time so I guess there'll be no straight shooting it all the way back this time ;). I also went down to cincy last night and bought a white '97 Cobra 'vert so I'll be psyched to see how she does. She's set up pretty sweet to race (4.10 gears, coil springs, adj shocks, etc.) so I guess there'll be no excuses this time. I'll talk to Mike M. tomorrow or so and decide how best to hook up but I'll plan on reserving the hotel tomorrow where you guys are staying.
