I am going to need some new track tires here soon guys, and I was wondering what your preferences were. If possible I am looking for something that I will get good life out of, on both small autocrosses and open track events, as I plan on heading up to gingerman this year. Down the line I will pick up 2 more rims ( I currently have 6 cobra R's), and then be able to have a set of autocross tires, and open track tires. Unless there is a tire that will fill both shoes. I don't want to spend a fourtune, so if anybody has any inside deals that they would like to throw my way, it would be much appreciated. Thanks guys!!!

You might check with Joe at Phoenix Performance they have used track tires for ~$75 a piece. http://forums.corvetteforum.com/showthread.php?t=1367615&highlight=track+tiresTirerack is out of the Avon Tech R closeouts they had for $131

thanks for the contact Rick! ANd I know about the avon's, I am really kicking myself now, oh well, you live and you learn. Now, will you run though on both autocrosses and open tracks?

I agree with John. I have used a set of the Toyos for on track events and they are an awasome tire. Due shave them for longer life.
You can also rotate them any way you want. The tread pattern only makes a difference in rain usuage.

Why does shaving the tire give them longer life?

When you don't shave them you have the huge tire tread blocks, these heat up an tend to chunk the tire when used at the track. Plus, they squirm under load. Get the tires shaved and the Toyo's will last a long long time. They are pretty impressive IMHO. :)

I decided to go with Kumho 710's on 17x9 10th Aniv. wheels, as I primarily AX, we'll see how it goes this weekend as it will be my first time out on a R compound tire. I ordered them from the Tire Rack and used the link from this site like was mentioned.
