I have to remove the rear bumper "chrome finish" Cobra inserts that were on the car when I bought it. I believe it is a 3M adhesive product on the backing of the letters. What product do you recommend such that the paint will not be harmed. Thanks.

I can help you out ......

Get yourself some 30 pound test fishing line.

Carefully use it to slide in behind the letter. Try to cut it between the tape and the letter rather than the tape and the bumper to prevent scratches on the bumper.

You should now be able to use your thumb and push the tape along and it should roll up. If not GOO-GONE will remove it.

Good luck .....

The fishing line works, but use a hairdryer to heat up the adhesive!

I have 3M as a customer and I have sent an e-mail to my contacts there for their input. As soon as I hear back I will advise.

I was tempted to ask why you have to remove the letters. I am still curious anyway. Is there some legal issues or you just do not care for them?

I bought the car from a guy who put them on. They're a bit gaudy for my taste, I'm more low key. And the wife keeps asking when they are coming off. I have to keep her happy --she's the one that lets me buy all my toys (Cobras, motorcycle, new BMW, guitars, et al).
