Can Someone Please Tell Me What They Were Thinking?

It really irks me when Ford actually comes out with someone so awesome, so cool, so amazing, so breathtaking, and so completely incredible and I get all excited and worked up thinking Ford actually did something right, only to be let down.

When I saw the concept of the 2007 Shelby Cobra GT500 I was like WOW!!!! Then I saw real photos of the car, and I was continually impressed. But now that released versions of the car are actually being shown, I am so mad at SVT and Ford because the hood vents are not the same as shown on the concept versions. I never thought one little detail could make or break a car, but this one definitely breaks the car.

The hood vents that are coming out on the production model are just plain nasty, and ugly, and hideous. Ford killed this car by raising the hood vents, rather than having them inset into the hood.

I guess I really shouldn't complain, but every time I see one, I'm just going to end up shaking my head and wondering what they were thinking by messing with those hood vents. I won't be able to afford one anyhow. I'll stick to my newly purchased 1997 SVT Cobra Mustang that I picked up with 48,000 miles for only $10,000.00

Don't get me wrong, I'm a big Ford man, but their thought process has become severely messed up.

It seems the Big 3 never ask their potential customers for opinions...although I know they do, but perhaps it's to the ones THEY pick.

I have yet to see one in person, sooner or later I will. As for the hood vents, they probably screwed up the composite mold or the CAD designer made a mistake because he or she was arguing with the engineer, you mean concave not convex right?

Considering all the hype about the car and the inflated cost, It will be interesting to see how the price changes or if it gets the gas guzzler tax.

Bought my 2001 Cobra for $27k new, bought my 2004 Cobra for $29k new (had a dealer incentive to sell along with the 0% Ford financing :thumbsup: ) and this time I am not disappointed that they made changes like I was when I first found out about the 03 model 3 weeks after I drove off the lot with the 01.

I agree that the final version of the hood is ugly. I don't believe it ruins the car, but the vents are certainly ugly.

Ford did the same thing with the rear brakes. Early versions had Bembo calipers with 13" rotors in the rear. In the end, the car got the Mustang GT rear brakes. At least the proposed 14" brakes up front stayed on the final version.

All things considered, I still think it's a beautiful car, despite all my disappointments with it; namely the solid axle, cheap rear brakes, ultra-heavy curb weight.

To answer your original question, I don't think they were thinking at all, just counting the costs to produce it (and not going far enough).

I got a chance to see the GT500 in person yesterday, like most say looked good over all but for a car to go for 20k over sticker to have taped stripes is a shame. On the front an rear bumper the tape stripes have overlap that looks very cheep for this car, they should have been painted. The overall look of the engine compartment looks to plastic and thrown together, it dosent have the mean look of the 03/04. Mabe it the use of too much black, and the expansion tanks look like addons.

The sales guy said the first two went for 20k over sticker and then went up to 25k. I hope some of the 03/04 Cobra owners want one, so that I can sneak in and buy their 03 before they want it back.

If some one wants to put out that kind of money have them go for the stripe delete and then have them painted on.
