View Full Version : Fun Ford Weekend

Open Question....
Fun Ford Weekend draws so many and the amount of Stangs that show is incredible. Good chance for membership drive for non-club stangers and from other Mustang Club members that overlap our region.

My point is this....I have not been real active in SCMC as of yet for many diff. reasons BUT plan to become more active beginning right now. I have been a member of the BuckeyeStangs (www.buckeyestangs.com ) for a short while and attended some events. The club is full of good people and are they are somewhat local in scope. A number of NortheasternOhio members of this club are planning on attending FFW at Norwalk and meeting up early in the a.m. on Sat. near the track. Would it be beneficial to both clubs to have members meet up that Sat. morning, park together, and "cross-pollinate" the clubs within the Ohio region. Some guys own Cobras, some modified GT's, Mach1's, Bullitts, etc....
I know this might spark some debate and I definitely am not trying to overrun anyone or either club. I am simply trying to be a member of both clubs and attend the same event as part of both of the clubs. If BStangs and the SCMC attended this together, at worst it is a chance to directly meet and interact with other Mustang enthusiasts. And best, it raises membership for both clubs, opens up more events to us Ohio Mustang people, and creates "critical mass" for any future events we want to sponsor and run ourselves here in Ohio ( ie: Mustang track day at Norwalk or Mid-Ohio - think big! )
Let me know what you think.....I can coordinate the meeting place on Saturday morning for both clubs, we can enter, park, and show together.

This makes sense to me...or am I on Pluto? :bounce:

Nevertheless....where are we meeting on Saturday morning? The earlier the better as the show crowd for Saturday will be large!

I definitely want to be early Saturday as I was told by 9:00 A the line for cars trying to get parked is pretty big. We are tentatively talking about meeting at the Burger King located on Rt 250 south of Norwalk at Rt 20 interchange. From there it is 1 1/2 miles to Rt 18 and the track. It is directly across from the hospital. I am up for any time early am.

Relative to joining forces, I am also new to the club so I would let Mike and others who are longer term members comment on that one. I have no problem personally with meeting up with other clubs and members as it can foster better events for all of us down the road.

The guys from BuckeyeStangs have invited us to meet at one of their members homes just outside Wellington, Ohio and cruise over togther ( about a 20 mile cruise which would be awesome w/ about 25 Stangs/Cobras). They are also having a cookout after on Sat. nite which we are also invted to attend.
I would just need a headcount of how many SCMCer's are going and I can get all the details to everyone.

If we are more interested in doing our own thing that is fine....meet at Burger King, etc...I am up for that. I just think this is a great opportunity to meet more Mustang guys and enhance future events.

Let me know what you all think and post your response.

I am totally up for meeting up with a larger group of mustangs. I also agree that that we should get there rather early. If we have a 2 hour drive from columbus, I think we should meet up around 6 in the morning, I know it is early, but I woukd rather get there early, and not have to deal with a ton of traffic around 9 or 10.

Mike R, if we are going to meet up with this other group, could I ask you to be in charge of getting us directions to get there. Something as easy as possible, we will be taking 71 north towards cleveland.

I know there are a small group planning on traveling north together from columbus. I think 6 am would a good meeting time, and not eating, and just heading north. I am not sure of the total number of people, but the group will probably wait around until 6:05 or 6:10, and then head out. I am actually toying with heading to cleveland on friday night, and staying with my parents in cleveland, so the train up might be 1 car shorter, than the train that will be heading home. You all have my cell 614 205 2649, if we would need anything that day. Hope to hear from you all soon, and see you next weekend. Mike

Not sure if their is two groups or one leaving Columbus. I am up for the Wellington trip.

If we are going to Wellington and leaving at 6:00 are we meeting at Bob Evans at 71 and Polaris?

I'll be coming from Columbus and a 6 AM departure is fine by me. I know of the Polaris exit but not familiar with the BoB Evans there, but that sounds fine by me. Just pick a place and I'll be there :)

Looks like the group is in agreement to join up with the BuckeyeStangs group at Wellington, OH. Once we know the details about exact location and time, please post it so we can all plan what time we need to leave to get to Wellington. Mike, does it make sense to have some sort of hand-out for potential Cobra owners on our club with at least the website address?

mojosvt
07-03-2006, 02:28 PM
Yeah, and I have been working on that. Tony S. sent me some flyers on the club itself, and a membership registration on the back. I was hoping to have the cruise-in a little more set up, so that I could have a flyer about that as well, but I have not heard from Rich at Quaker Steak and Lube yet. We will see how that plays out this week.

Just so everybody is on the same page. There will be one group leaving Columbus around 6 am from the bob evans(or if it will be easier to meet at that marathon right off the exit in front of the quaker steak). We will be meeting the rest of the guys in Wellington to meet up with the buckeyestang's group, and driving over together. Directions to wellington will be provided by Mike R sometime this week. Hope that helps:D

Hey gang,
I think that Carol and I would be interested in making the trip:thumbsup: just need the final info, since we would have to leave Cincy pretty dam early in the morn to meet up with you at 6:00, we are thinking about the possibility of coming up to Columbus Fri night so that we could meet you guys in the morning.:bounce:
Any suggestions on where to stay so that we would be close to the meeting place?

Thanks,

If you're looking for a relatively inexpensive hotel, a decent area is the HWY 161 exit (Dublin Granville Rd) off of I-71. It's in north Columbus a few miles inside of I-270. This would leave you fairly close to where we'd be meeting on Sat morning. There's numerous hotels right there (Motel 6, Superlodge, Best Western, etc.). Just type in zip code 43229 into mapquest or yahoo maps and check on the specifics.

Hope to see you guys Saturday :).

Mike R-
I'm game on meeting as early and at any location. Not sure if my son, Mike M (mojo svt) is coming up Fri to stay over night with us in Avon Lake, on coming in Sat with other SCMC members. Just let either Mike or myself know what the plans are. Since we are local I can meet anywhere without much of a hassle. I do agree that we may need to be there early. I talked to a lady at the Norwalk raceway and she seemed to indicate that scout members could hold spots for others, but I don't know if that is true.

Hello everyone, my name is Chad Williams. I have a 2000 S281 Saleen speedster (440rwhp) and a 97 Cobra. I am from Buckeyestangs and am the one from Wellington that has invited everyone to meet at my place in the morning. Im very excited to have the 2 clubs meet and have a huge group of mustangs cruising over to Norwalk together!

I see that most will be coming from either the Columbus area or the Cleveland area. I will make up a set of directions coming from 71 north and from 480 West for both parties. If anyone needs any other specific directions, please let me know and ill get you here with no problems!

Wellington is a smaller town, and i live on the outskirts of it. You will have to come down some country roads, but none are stone or dirt, so no worries on the cars. They are country roards, but the main ones. Im even going to travel down acouple to make sure no construction is going on. I have a long driveway (about 300foot) plus the turn around area, so i should be able to accomidate about 30-35 cars with no problem. My address is 24349 West Road, Wellington Ohio, 44090 for anyone that wants to get an idea of where i am ahead of time.

Also, as stated before, we will be coming back to my place after the show for a cookout. I have a swimming pool, hot tub, pool table downstairs, and ill put up a volleyball net. Please feel free to bring kids if you are bringing them to the show with you. We'll cookout some burgers, dogs or what ever anyone else brings. There will be some "adult" beverages for those that are able and of course pop, tea etc for those that dont.

If anyone has any questions, or something was explained, please feel free to ask me. Ill check back here many times, or feel free to send me an email at gtmustnggy@aol.com. My cell number is 216-337-0142.

Thanks again, and im looking forward to meeting many new mustang faces and haveing a great weekend!!!!

I will be coming from the west - Perrysburg, OH area. I can take Rt 20 all the way and cut south to Wellington or I could turnpike and then cut south. Chad, any suggestions on best way.

Jeff and Carol,

If you guys are meeting at the Polaris exit there is a Wingate Inn that is reasonable and has excellent lighted parking just of the exit.

Hey Chad,
That's a very generous (sp?) thing you're doing by inviting everyone to your place. I may stop by for a little while afterwards if it's not too late.
We will be leaving from rt 57 & rt 10 around 7:30 am on saturday. Look forward to seeing everyone there.

Are you heading to Cleveland or leaving form Columbus?

It appears that only two to three of us are leaving form Columbus, if so the Marathon station on the south side of Polaris at 71 make more sence.

The weather looks to be GREAT:cool: .

Mike Redinger here...
Sorry for the lack of direct info. I have been out of town for the holiday.

I will be talking w/ Chad from BuckeyeStangs in the next 24 hours and agreeing on a meet time at his home in Wellington. His address is listed in his previous post to this board which outlines the gameplan for the day. I would suggest a MapQuest printout for directions for those of you traveling from Columbus. I will post a meet time and place for us Cleve. area people to meet and drive later this evening after I speak with Chad. Stay tuned.
This is an incredibly generous offer from Chad and a great opportunity to meet and have a killer day. Any food or drink you can contribute would be appreciated - more details on that in my next post this evening.

Shine 'em up good this week ... the weather looks to be spectacular for Sat.

Any questions, my cell phone is 440-668-6951

Jeff, it looks like you are going to be the 4th cobra leaving from columbus in the morning. Like Ernie posted a few comments ago, We will be meeting at the marathon station off exit 121 Polaris Parkway. For you, coming from the south, as you get off the 121 exit, you will make a left at the top of the offramp. You will cross over the bridge, and the first traffic light you will make a left, you will see the maraton station there. You hopefully will also see a black and ton 01 cobra, a red 94 coupe, and a bada$$ mineral grey convertable.:rotf: The 4 of us will pull out heading north around 6:05 am!!!! Get there early for an extra cup of joe for the ride!:D

OK - Here Ya go...

I spoke w/ Chad Williams this evening and this combined outing of SCMC and BuckeyeStangs is a definite go!

Saturday 7/8/06
Meet at home of Chad Williams/BuckeyeStangs @ 8 a.m. His address is 24349 West Rd., Wellington, OH 44090 . Be early if you can! We will depart for Norwalk Raceway/FFW at 8:30 at the latest. Try to hook up with other club members from your area to caravan to Chad's. It is approx a 20-25 min. drive from Chad's home to Norwalk Raceway Park. Should be a great ride w/ 20+ Mustangs/Cobras!
I would suggest MAPQUEST for directions to Chad's and will try to post exact directions later this evening. Chad may even post some important directions or hints before Sat. a.m. - so check here before you leave Cleve., C-Bus., Akron, or Cincy.
Call either cell phone below if you will not make the 8:30 departure time and we will try to save you a spot at NR next/near us.
Chad Williams 216-337-0142
Mike Redinger 440-668-6951

Saturday evening - Chad has graciously invited us all back to his home for some food / friends / Mustangs gathering.
:) Some basics will be provided such as burgers, hot dogs, adult beverages, soda, water, sides BUT it would be huge if anyone attending could contribute additional items such as side dishes, adult beverages, soda, buns, or anything else you may want to bring or grill for consumption. If you meet at Chad's on Sat. morning you will be able to leave the items there as Chad has an extra garage fridge!
Chad also tells me that if the weather remains dry, a huge picture of all the Stangs/Cobras is possible on his front lawn - way cool!

Official FFW Car Show Schedule
Gates Open 8 am , Show Cost $35.00 1 day , $45.00 2 days
Registration 8:30 am - Noon
Judging Noon - 2 pm
Awards 4 pm
FFW Racing All Day........

If you have any questions feel free to call me or Chad. Looking forward to this. I believe it will benefit both clubs and be a ridiculous amount of fun.

From Cleveland area....looks like a nice drive and off main highways BUT good roads.

My plan for those who want to hook up.....meet 7:20 to 7:30 a.m. at corner of OH-82 and OH-83. Large gas station there with plenty of gas, coffee, energy drinks, etc... I believe it is a Sheetz.

I will drive OH-83 South 5.36 miles
Turn right on OH-303 and travel 3.29 miles
Turn left on Indian Hollow Rd. / CR-26 and travel 5.99 miles
Turn left on OH-301 and travel 1.55 miles
Turn right on CR-4 and travel 2.98 miles
Turn left on West Rd. / CR-38 and travel .41 miles and arrive and 24349 West Rd, Wellington, OH 44090

My cell number is 440-668-6951 If you want to hook up for the morning trip to Chad Williams home let me know by PM, cell or e-mail @ 4dingers@sbcglobal.net .

See you all Saturday!

From Columbus...MapQuest tells me this:

from the I-70 / I-71 Interchange

Take I-71 North for 88.3 miles
Take the OH-301 exit, EXIT 196 towards W. Salem
Turn left on OH-301 and travel 3.9 miles
Turn left on Jeffrey Rd / CR-111 and travel 1.9 miles
Turn right on Camp Rd / Twp Hwy 36 and travel 3.5 miles
Turn left on Wandel Rd / CR-81 and travel 0.9 miles
Turn right on Firestone Rd / CR-26 and travel 3.7 miles
Turn left on Chatham Rd / OH-162 and travel 1 mile
Turn right on West Rd / CR-38 and travel 2.1 miles ending at 24349 West Rd., Wellington, OH 44090

Again, this is what MapQuest spit out from I-70, I-71 Interchange on the northside of Columbus. If you have figured out a better way please use it.
Chad may also post some better directions here or some hints so check this board before you leave Sat. morning.

Good luck....see you Saturday.

Alright guys, looks like its gonna be an awesome weekend!! I see that Mike has posted up some directions, but there are some easier ways. Please, if you have any questions, let me know..

From the West (For John):
Your pretty much correct, but ill get you to my house from rt 58.
Once you come to Wellington from Rt 58, center of town will be rt. 18. Turn left onto Rt 18. Follow 18 to West Road. About 2-3 Miles. Turn Right onto West Road and my house is 2 miles down on the left hand side.

For Mike meeting at the intersection of 83 & 82:
Take 83 South to Rt. 303. Turn right onto 303.
Follow 303 into LaGrange. Go around the circle and head down 301 South.
Follow 301 S to Rt. 18 (Penfield)
Turn Right onto Rt. 18. Follow 18 to West Rd. There is a time and temperature sign on the corner.
Turn Left onto West Rd. My house is exactly 2 miles down on the left hand side. Im about 300 feet from the road.

For anyone coming from Cleveland area:
Take 480W to the Rt. 301 South (LaGrange) exit. (480 is also called 10 once you get into the area of Elryia).
Turn Left onto 301 and head south until you come to Lagrange, keep heading south on 301 and follow directions from above.

For anyone coming from the South (71):
Take I-71 North, Take the OH-301 exit, EXIT 196 towards W. Salem
Turn left on OH-301. Stay on Rt. 301 North through W. Salem, through a small town called Spencer.
Once past spencer, about 2-3 miles youll come to SMITH Road. Turn Left onto Smith.
Follow Smith road until West Road. My house is the 3rd house on the right hand side.

And once again, if anyone has any other questions, or your having problems in the mornging, please feel free to give me a call on my cell.

John, im sorry ive got to switch up your directions. I persoanlly went out and traveled the directions i gave everyone to make sure that none of the roads were shut down or under construction. Cause i know i would hate to travel over here and have to get the car dirty by driving down a construction road. One of the main intersections is shut down, they are expanding it due to a WalMart going up near by....

When you get off of the turnpike at Rt. 58. Head South. Youll pass Rt. 113, come around an S curve (golf course on right hand side). The next light will be Russia Road. Turn Left onto Russia. Continue on Russia untill it dead ends. It will be Oberlin/Elyria Road. Turn left. Youll come to a sharp curve, there is a mini mart/convieniant on the right hand side. Turn Right. That is Rt. 301. Youll head south on 301 and youll go over 480 (where anyone from cleveland would come.) And follow the directions from there. If you googlemap it, you will see exactly what i mean. And please dont hesitate to give me a call with any problems.

Once again, im sorry i had to switch up on ya, but i dont want ya to get lost morning of!!!

Everyone else is ok, and should be easy sailing!!!!

See everyone Saturday!!!!

Sizleen515
07-07-2006, 01:25 PM
Alright John, should be the last time for ya :D This is the way that i had told you on the phone.

Your gonna get off at the Baumhart Road exit off of the turnpike. Turn right onto Baumhart Road. Youll travel for approx 10 miles and youll come to Rt. 20. Turn Left onto 20. Youll go around a slight curve right away. Before the curve ends your going to turn right onto Quarry Road. Once on Quarry, the first intersection that you come to will be Rt. 303. Turn Left onto 303. Youll come to a stop light. That will be Rt. 58....youll turn right onto 58 and that will take you into Wellington and you can follow the directions from before.

Once again, im sorry...but that damn construction made it a bit of a pain in the arse.

Cant wait for tomorrow guys!!! See ya bright and early. And dont forget, feel free to call with any questions. 216-337-0142

It was well worth seeing everyone again and a prelude to the Summit Racing/Mustang Show on July 29th, the Krieger Ford Show in early August, the 411 trip in August, and the SVT Cobra Nationals in Sept. Who says the Buckeye SCMCers are lacking for things to do? Any other events coming up? Post 'em here! I am not against traveling if I have enough notice.

I believe I got two more SCMC members lastnight at our local cruisin at Quaker Steak & Lube, an '03 Cobra SVT and another guy awaiting delivery on a '07 Shelby.
Also, John T., I believe you asked about my intercooler grille. I got it from SSinserts.com. Lower grille Kit No. 5018B. You can also go to GrillCraft.com. Not hard to install, but would be easier if I was on a lift.

See you at Summit Racing July 29.
Hey neighbor! This is Hector, I met you and your son at FFW (I have the black 10th anniversary convertible). Let's stay in touch so we can cruise together to Summit at the end of the month.

Chad,

Thanks alot for being the master of ceremonies for the weekend. I really enjoyed meeting everyone from your club and look forward to the Summit event. Hopefully both the SCMC and BuckeyeStangs Organizations can continue to grow in the state of Ohio.

Thank you for bringing our two clubs together.

My wife and I had a great time.

The weather could not have been better.

Hope to see you and your club members again.

I also want to say thanks to both Chad and Mike R. I had a absolute blast. It was a long day for me and my wife's ankle, but both of us would say that it was well worth it.Chad, those pics are great. Even though I have done it numerous times, there is nothing like driving down the road in a sweet caravan of mustangs, and looking at the faces of people as we stop traffic and fly-by:thumbsup:

Now we need to re-focus and gather as many people as possible for Summit. I also want to pass around some of those flyers that I had. That way anyone of us can spread the word about our great club, and make it GROW!!!!
