I am considering buying from a private party, a 1999 6 cylinder, auto trans Mustang with 88,000 miles, as a daily driver [putting too many miles on the Cobra lately]. Assuming the above six has had reasonable care, should I be overly concerned about the 88,000 miles? On average, how many miles should one of these cars run before needing major engine or transmission work? The interior, body and paint are in above average condition. What would you pay for the car?

Appreciate any comments you may have.

The average miles should be around 90,000 so it's close to average. These cars are great over the long haul as long as they are well maintained. Check the cooling system to see how the fluids look. I would pay no more than $5500 for it. Also, take a good look at the under side for leaks of any kind. They are good every day drivers.

I have a 89 LX 4cyl with 190k+ miles on it. It's a piece of crap, but it gets me from point a to point b. That's all that really matters. It, also, goes 400 miles on a tank of gas:thumbsup:
