How long do we have to get 25 people?
I am a member of lots of forums and have a pretty good number of car friends. If it comes down to it, I can get the word out pretty far. I just don't want to jump the gun and not let all the SCMC members that want to run be able to run.
TonyBolton

Well, I certainly want this event to happen, so i've advertised it to the car forums that I frequent. I figure the ones that get involved early, are the ones that really want to go and commit!

I think with the closing of a couple of local dirt tracks in the area the owner of 411 is attempting to take advantage of the lost/displaced drivers and crowds. (unfortunately for us)

And yeah, It's every bit as cool as it looks.

Why don't you just leave the R-comps on the car to drive back and forth to the hotel from the track? It can't be that far. That would avoid 2 tire swaps.

no i wish i was making 500hp. the last dyno had be at 401 rwhp/518 rwtq. i have had my eaton poted, basani cats and cat back installed / and new tunes done since then. so who knows until i get it on another dyno. i would guess somewhere between 415-430 rwhp and not much tq if any over the last time.

Sounds to me like my guess of 550tq might actually be a little low, with 518rwtq that would be about 600 crank. And the hp numbers that you are guessing would put you a lot closer to 500hp than you might think. 430rwhp would be somewhere around 500 crank.

Somebody help me with a few questions from my post on LS1Tech.
What type of helmet is required?
Are passengers allowed to ride?
How many times can you run each day?
I told him passengers are ok and you'd get at least 8 runs a day, but I didn't know what to say about the helmets. Last time I ran a motocross helmet and it seemed to be ok. So, I said that any motorsports helmet would probably be ok. Thanks, Steven

Passengers are allowed, but must be helmeted as well. There are usually a few loaner helmets available.
I believe we usually get 8ish runs a day. Depends on light, weather, and driver fatigue.

A very generous "real car guy" told Rick that he would cover any difference if there were not enough entrants so that nobody had to worry about being short for funding. I won't mention any names (Bill Howell), but he's a really nice guy with a couple of sweet Pro-Touring machines. Many thanks to this fine gentleman (Bill Howell)!

I understand Tony about having a limited budget....I have one too. :)
However, if someone did one day at CMP then they'd drop $150.00 for the day and get two hours of open track. But you should know, like me....if you want to play, you have to pay. Renting the 411 is a few hundred dollars. Renting a road course can easily exceed $15,000.00 dollars on any given track. ;) Still the best bang for the buck. Either one you do will be a blast!

I've never raced in an autocross, but I'd love to get in on this one. Is there anything in particular I should know other than how to race? :) How strict will the tech inspection be, and are there some things I should be prepared to bring (such as fire extinguisher, helmet, etc)?
Thanks!

I've never raced in an autocross Really? You're going to Love it.
I'm not an inspector but I believe it's mostly have your battery secure, no loose objects inside the car, I think they kinda generally look over it to see if it's in good enough shape to be trown around on a track and it looks like yours is, and I think they check for seat belts. Helmets are requried and there will most likly be some extras there, but if you have your own, bring it. Fire extinguisher is not required, but if you think you car is going to catch on fire then you can bring one but it'd have to be secured to be in the car.
I really hope the car your talking about bring is that Awesome looking cobra.

I know that it is a long shot, but after shoveling snow for the last 2 weeks straight, I deserve some nice weather, heck my car is going to look white with all the salt. I will have to give her a bath once I enter the southern states! But like Terry said, I will be bringing rain tires along for the ride. There is no way I am coming all that way and then not running. I will also be bringing my snow chains, you know, just just to ward off evil spirits!

Rick - I am pretty sure that Shawn Drake will be driving Kelly's Impala.Shawn's was stolen over the Christmas holiday and he has not replaced it yet.
Shawn's car was recovered by the police yesterday. A couple more dents and the interior reeked of weed, but he drove it home from the impound lot. Shawn will be bringing it to 411 to torture test the drivetrain.

:hello: Newbie here. May as well make my first post here. The check for $45 went out in the mail yesterday. Jason has been trying to talk me into doing this for the past year or so. Just sucks I waited till the last one to make it. :(
I'm undecided what I'll be taking. I've got a 87 Corvette Convertible, 91 Trans Am Convertible, and a 99 Pontiac Grand Prix GTP. Right now it looks like the GTP will be making the trip south. The other 2 have a few issues that need taken care of before I play in them. The TA may be a possibility, although it is the slowest of the 3 cars I own. http://home.insight.rr.com/blue92/smilies/lol.gif

I did talk to this one guy driving a late model (maybe 03) white gt, complimenting him about his exhaust setup, his name might have been Tony, I'm not for sure. The impalas were awesome sliding around and that one black vette could wake up the dead. Leadssled what happened to your car after that last run when you dnf, it sounded like your car just stalled out. Yeah, it sputtered and died in the turn. It refired and drove fine after I pulled off of the track. I'm 90% sure that it was just a fuel pickup problem. I should have topped the tank off before running yesterday, but didn't. I would have never caught that 2nd place car anyway - he was a full 1.5 seconds ahead of me. But I thought that was probably a 62-second run before it died. Oh well... I had a blast anyway.

Tony, if you go back to the post on page 10 by ragtop, he posted a few of the pictures that he took over the day. And if you look at the board, you did run a 61.112. we will have to have rick be the final judge, but it really looks like a 61.112 to me.

I'll stick with Ricks (Time keeper) scorecard in his hands...to many chances of losing "times" in translation, you know background noises, people, cars, (Terry's most noteable)....
Goodtimes none the less except pulling my hair out after my car crapping out on me. Made the day more intersting for sure.
Id like to seen Tony's face when he heard the Vett was down... Tony=:bounce:

Rick made the comment at the track on Sunday that he'd looked around for a replacement track but it was tough to find one with the cross in the middle to accomodate autocross. I took a quick search of what's available in Ohio and low and behold came across this. No idea if it's available, but the infield looks like it'd be a hoot a autocross on. I present to you:

Yea, thats probably what happened. I know FOR A FACT that my first recorded run of 60.XXX plus whatever cones was wrong. When I did timing, I saw Ricks sheet and it said my run was a 64.XXX. I knew I didn't run a 60-flat on my first lap in the cold with cold tires.
Id like to seen Tony's face when he heard the Vett was down... Tony=:bounce:Not really. I was hoping to use you/your car as a measuring stick. I know you and I both drive 10/10ths out there so it eliminates the driver factor and leaves it up to the cars. I was hoping to gauge how many tenths I picked up on you(if any)with my new stuff on the car.

Hey - don't blame me. I was working the course when Tony ran. My noisemaker was parked. :D
I'm sure it was just a transcription error. At least one of you is being a good sport about it.

Rick, you may or may not know about this one, but the Knoxville PD is using some of its homeland security $$$ to build a training lot for its officers. I don't think it is built yet, but ETRSCCA has been trying to secure this lot for autox. Maybe worth a shot?

So, did I win this contest? :D
Yeah, You were for sure louder than Heath's Chevelle. But, Still think it was pretty close between you and that black C5 Corvette.

Yeah, that Vette was pretty loud at WOT. But I think I had him at idle for the tie breaker. ;)

:thumbsup:I hope your not implying that im the one being a bad sport:rolleyes: , i dont think anyone of us is lashing out in any way....(maybe alittle ribbing:D ) i think it was great competion between the 2 of us, it really could have went either way IMO.
TOny was driving the hell out his car an i have nothing but the most respect for him.
I think we are both having FUN with this i could care less, im just happy that i didnt tear up the car and turned in a respectable time, the one out of all of this thats E lated(sp?) is Kase and how well his car performed. :bounce:
Tony what was the improvement over the last time you ran? i mean its the same track the only difference should be the car right? Wheres last years times and how far ahead are you? Your car looked like it was handling alot better i thought and according to what you were saying on saturday.... it was.

Well, now that I see it's a 61.7XX, it's not my best out there which I THINK it was a 61.39X from last outting. I know for a fact the car felt about 10x better, but I was also giving up some tenths in two spots on the course. I also think I had that 61.3XX run on some fairly new if not brand new tires. These have about 7 or so months of use on them.
ANother noteable was that the car could repeat itself. I didn't feel like I was going out there and just getting a "hero run" and not being able to back it up.
We've got a lil Adesa parking lot autocross comin' up so we'll see how it fairs on the lower speed stuff. I'm hoping at LEAST 1/2 second on a 40-ish second course.

I was just kidding around. You didn't read it closely enough I said "At least one of you is being a good sport." It was an intended play on words - "Two" of you still fits that description. ;) Only someone that was feeling guilty would interpret it the way you did. You're awfully sensitive for a cheater. (BTW - I'm still kidding :D ).
It's all good. It was an understandable transcription error. Both of you performed well enough to take the title; it could have gone either way. And I didn't have enough for either of you. I'm better at stirring the pot than I am at winning. And that was a hell of a run in a stock C5. :hail:

Thanks SCMC for a good time. I just wish I had found out about your events sooner, I would have liked to get another shot at that track. Got a 62.xxx somethng +1 on my last run, I finally started to get into the groove. I figured I would have at least placed somewhere near the top in the loudest car contest with the screaming rotary. I wouldn't be surprised if the starter didn't have some hearing loss on Monday, lol Those guys in the lead sleds were amazing, I can't believe how they handled those big cars! Anyway everyone there were very nice to this out of town ricer. I will watch this forum and try and join you guys at some event in the future.:)
