Had a recurring problem of my ignition surging, jumping, and dying under accleration. Wow, this has been a headache. Changed the ignition control module, swapped a coil, had msd check the 6al box, and the problem was still there. Found a replacement distributor and the car runs perfect again, for now. Never had a distributor cause a problem like that. Maybe this info might help someone in the future. Hopefully no worries from here on out and back to the strip.

Glad you located the problem. I have heard the hall effect sensor can get hot and cause problems.
What kind of power are you making? Have you had it tuned?
I'm building a 331 now with AFR 185 heads, E cam ported lower intake with my small Powerdyne supercharger.

I'm getting ready to have the car tuned again. I'll post some mustang-dyno numbers when I get it done. You should expect somewhere around 400-450 rwhp and torque on a dynojet from your combo depending on the tune and lb of boost.

Sounds as tough the PIP sensor bit the dust in your old distributor. The new one should have taken care of the prob. Maybe swap out the TFI sensor as well.
