I thought this might bring back some memories for Mike(bad ones). The Cobra held up a bit better.

I was actaully talking to somebody about the wreck the other day. I local mustang guy was talking about heading down and running the dragon, and I told him my story, and told him to be extra safe;) I learned a huge lesson that day, and thanks my lucky stars on a regular basis for what I have, and what WASN'T take away from me that day.

Mike & Mark,
Hearing the story in the past just doesn't come close to the story the pictures tell. Ouch & Wow!

Hey guys!!! I hope all has been well, especially for you and the Mrs. Mike. Been having a crazy past couple of months myself. Yeah, I kind of remember that evening myself on the Dragon. I was talking to a guy in Florida a couple of months back while on vacation and he said that they have speed trap cameras on the Dragon now, dunno if it's true or not. I sold my Cobra a couple of months back since I decided noone NEEDS a new GTO and a Cobra and I've regretted that decision since the day it left my garage. Well, today something happened that made it even a little lousier tasting: Exactly 5 and a half hours ago my GTO got creamed by a kid who had his license for a total of 4 days. He pulled out in front of me this afternoon while on his cell phone, I broadsided him throwing us both into an Escalade. It wasn't pretty. Not sure if the car will be a write off or not, nose, hood one if not both fenders gone and the radiator was pushed pretty good into / around the front of the motor. Also the passenger door would not open. Strangely enough, no airbags went off. Now the wife and I are down to a Honda Odyssey. Luckily noone hurt though. Those damn tires were only 3 days old on that GTO. C'ya......Mark.P.S. Chris, What do you think of your CTSV so far, it looks like the front runner for a replacement.

Wow, sorry to hear about the GTO, but based upon what you said, thank God you're ok and able to sound upbeat (sortof..) about it. Good luck on the replacement - hopefully the car is written off as I'd hate to be stuck with a rebuild after that kind of damage.

I love the CTS-V, it's a blast to have as a daily driver, and a blast at AX or track days. I'm definately sorry to hear abot the GTO, but at least you're ok and that's what matters most, cars can be replaced.

Thanks Chris. First time back on in awhile. Well I was pretty stoked about getting a CTS-V but decided it probably would not be a good idea to pull into customers' parking lot in one of those, alot of buyers / purchasing agents notice those kind of things. I was able to find another '04 GTO in Pulse Red (my first one was Torrid Red) with only 29k and clean as a pin so I bought it. Strangely enough most people don't recognize GTO's (especially the 2004's) and quickly think they're just another 2 door domestic. Also I came to the conclusion I never should of sold the convertible last summer so I bought another one last week. :bounce: I hope to see you guys soon......Mark.

Yep, you're right it wasn't. Deal fell through, for some reason (I think he got a better offer before the vehicle shipped) the buyer flaked out and returned funds so luckily noone got hurt. No problem, half of the fun is in the hunt, C'ya.....Mark.

Holy Thread Reincarnation BatMan!!!! I picked up a new to me Porsche Boxster S last weekend. I flew down to Richmond, VA, verified condition, records, etc. and drove back 9 hours, absolutely freaking phenomenal handling, period. The driving dynamics and power delivery are completely different than anything I've driven. I flirted with a few used C5 ZO6's but came to the conclusion that they were too fast for my potential open track (remember the 88 time Chris?) endeavors, along with the fact I love verts. Anyway, I hope to catch up with you guys later in the spring, Cyas.....Mark.

I was planning on getting the Pontiac G8 as a replacement company vehicle for the GTO in a year or two but frankly if gas continues to rise, the VW Jetta Wagon Diesel will likely be the replacement.
BTW.....I'm hoping that you know me well enough to punch me squarely in the nose if it ever starts rising LOL.

If a road course is where he shows it off to us he will win the twisties while we rule the straighter sections. I remember running at the IRP roadcourse in '05 and the SVT Foci just killed the Cobras in the turns while they had pull far to the right and wave us by on the straights. Just proves power is not everything...have to have the mix of power, handling, AND a driver that has a clue!
After writing this, I am again upset I could not get to VIR for the big event. Aiming for Gingerman with the SCMC this Fall....hoping $$ and time easier to come by then.
By the way Chris....I am jealous of the time you spend at driving events. WOULD YOU PLEASE get a wife, children, a house, a dog, a cat, and less free time! I would feel better.

I'll tell you what, I'll run the next three weekends and then I'll take one off, and I'll probably go to the drag strip that weekend to hang with some friends that still haven't learned that cars can turn also. One weekend of the last six I haven't been to race of some sort. Last year at VIR I had a good time with a Cayman S at VIR he'd pull me on the twisties a bit then I'd run him down on the straight and then out brake him at the end of the straight. I'm sure it scared him a little if he noticed how fast I closed on him in the breaking zones. He was on Michelin PS2's though and I was on Michelin PS all seasons so I'm thinking had I been on a summer tire I could of hung with him in the twisties also. Imagine a Cadillac out braking a Porsche, who'd of thunk it.

Here's some pic's from this year so far, I ordered a 32 mm sway bar for the front of the V last night, so I might take you up on driving NasT97 on June 15 if you are runnung that day Mike and give the V a week off, 3 AX the last seven days and another this Sunday, I'll supply the wheels and tires and we'll see what that thing will really do.

Darn skippy, and this time all things will be equal, same car, same tires, only the driver will change. You could bring that car that doesn't know what color it is down and have some fun with us. :D

...and why would I put wear and tear on my car when I can do that to my sons. I would sure hate to chip my paint. If Mike chips his we can just use permanent marker

Paint chips and cone marks add character to a vehicle and increase it's value, at least in my book.

I think we all know who will walk away ahead here, chris has more driving experience this season alone that I do in my 3 years auto-xing! I am almost 100% that I will be running on the 15th, so lets plan on co-driving.

We might have to change our plans. I took the vert into the shop for some "work", and was told that I would have it back today or tomorrow, and the guy called me yesterday and said it might be a bit longer. So it looks like I might not be running at all, either that or in the Mazda 3
