WHAT ABOUT THE NEW COBRA ? THERE IS NO DIFFERENCE IN THE SPECS, BUT IS THERE A DIFFERENCE IN WHAT THE CAR IS OR WILL BE WORTH ? I THOUGHT THIS VEHICLE WAS A LIMITED EDITION WHEN I BOUGHT MY O7... ANY FEEDBACK? :baby:

No changes except they will be offering a KR version with 40 more hp and a "Supersnake" with 250 more hp. The SS will be converted at the Shelby factory. Your car will be a 3 year run with approximately 30,000 cars total. That is a standard SVT Cobra production unit number...

+1

The first Year Model run of a desired Style in a Serialized Edition, historically, is worth a bit more. If it is early Serial or a Pre-Production, it is better in terms of collectability.

Call SVT and get the Cert - it will tell you your Production No. - and when it was Built. The ones built prior to October, 2006 will most likely be the ones to get.

Also, in a historic throwback edition, the representative tributes to the desireability of the car back in the day will also have an effect on the collectability. In the case of the Shelby, the ones like the Popular ones back in the day is most likely to be more sought after. i.e. in the Ford Racing color scheme fastback.

Although determining the collectability of a car and what it's dollar value may be, is subjective; - especially in the early years after Production, until it becomes a real Classic.

Though I don't know how it will ultimately affect the collectible quality of the cars, the option package for the '08 Cobra seems to me to be a little splashier: Most '08 Cobras now listed on Ebay have both HID headlamps and the Navigation/DVD/MP-3 system. It might also be that those options were also available in '07, but the dealers are now dressing the cars to the hilt with options, to offset the rapid drop toward MSRP that is now glaringly apparent in the "Buy It Now" prices of Ebay-listed Cobras. (After all, more options = "ADP": additional dealer profit). :)

It is a 'limited' edition - in the same way that the Cobras were limited editions. Not mass produced, but not scarce either. As to long term value, only time will tell. Short term value can be volatile. If supply out paces demand by the end of the production run - the immediate result will be a marked decline in value (based on what most people paid for the early ones). This happened with the 03/04 Cobras. At the beginning of the 03 production run, they were easily going for 5-10k over MSRP. By the end of the production run they were going for a good bit under MSRP.

With cars, it's hard to tell what the immediate future holds. The result of the GT500 was a GAIN in immediate value of the 03/04 cars. People in the market saw the prices dealers were asking for the GT500 and then seeing what they could get a 03/04 for with 'similar' performance. This caused an increase in demand for them.

The short term value of the GT500 depends on a couple of factors:
1) What does Ford replace it with (if anything) - and how much will it cost to get one.
2) The gas/oil price situation. If gas goes up to the point that most people are looking for econoboxes, most people will not be looking to buy a supercharged V8.

Without a crystal ball, the best advice I can give is:
You have a great car. Don't worry about the value and just enjoy the car.

Like Bartman01 mentioned car collecting is very subjective. When FORD changed the Cobra's I can't tell you how many people asked if I was "selling your '03?" Of course my asnwer to them was: "Not today but thanks for the offer."

I will say this though - whatever happens happens and in the meantime enjoy the car. It's meant to be driven and why not? You paid good money for it so have fun with it! I know I am: ;)

Why are ya'll calling GT500's, Cobras?

Because back in 2005 the concept car was called by Ford "Ford Shelby Cobra GT 500" and the car is really O.J. Coletti's SVT Cobra, not Shelby's GT 500. Back in the 60's the "real" Shelbys went to the Shelby Plant to be modified by Shelby. These newer cars are right off the Ford assembly line and sold to the public as Shelbys without ever going to the Shelby plant for modifications. There is some discussion on other boards about the car being an SVT Cobra (which it rightfully is as SVT is branded all over it and it was designed by Ford SVT engineers not Shelby engineers.) and not a true Shelby because they never saw a Shelby plant nor do they have a signed "Shelby Certification with serial number" stamped on it. Shelby is the marketing name, SVT Cobra is the substance!

Carroll has just enough of his Namesake on it to call it a Shelby, but in my eye, it is a collaboration of all the greats: Ford, SVT, Roush and Shelby. And history may mark it as such. It will be recognized in it's own right; - exclusive of being a "Shelby-Built" car. The Certificate holds both: Ford Performance Group/SVT & Shelby signatures w/ Logos on it. It is not a pure Shelby Product.

In showing Angel a lot, and in her being a pre-production Serial Number, I have already been receiving some notes towards the potential future recognition of the car. That being exemplafied by their recognition of the lack of newer technology featues on the car; - such as HIDs, Navigation, mood lighting, etc. The recognition that the earlier cars had misalignment of the Factory Striping, markings on the body frame from the Factory, and other misc. details that are not characteristic of the newer cars in 2007 or for 2008. In having appraisers, auctioneers, Classic Shelby owners, Shelby Team Members looking at the car, they all gave similar renditions and opinions.

While showing and keeping her in that condition, my aim is to enjoy her and share her in a safe way as well. It would be a shame to just hide it away forever and not use it in the way Shelby had once been quoted as saying - "they are ment to be driven and enjoyed".

Why are ya'll calling GT500's, Cobras? :confused:As the others have said, this car is much more Cobra than SHELBY. This car is obviously SVT's baby. It is the natural evolution of the Cobras.

If you haven't spent any time with one, you should. The Terms are great cars, the GT500 is the next step in refinement of SVT Mustangs.

Check one out sometime.

5.4,

I want mine to be a Vista Blue with white stripes. Like you, I want MSRP or less when I go to buy mine, too. ;)

5.4,

I want mine to be a Vista Blue with white stripes. Like you, I want MSRP or less when I go to buy mine, too. ;)I chose white with blue as it was the original color scheme of the first Shelbys. I'm sure you already know, but, that was the only color you could get the first year.

When I think of Original Shelby Mustangs or even Cobras, I think of white/blue or Blue and white. Had I not been able to get white, Vista was next on the list. I also considered some of the Gray colors as I am getting a little older and wanted to go with a little more subtle color. However, the classic look won out in the end. And now, I couldn't be happier. I love the color scheme and overall look of my car.

There is a Vista Blue/white here in town. It is really pretty. If you have not seen that color in person, you should. Then again maybe you shouldn't. You might find yourself signing on the dotted line.

MSRP deals are starting to fall all over the place. I don't see under MSRP for a while. At least not unless they announce an '09 run (which I think they will).

Good luck finding one.

Kevin

It has a Cobra snake emblem on the grille from the factory right? That's reason enough there IMHO.

I saw one of the first Shelby's made to be delivered here in Charlotte, it was red with white stripes. Yes, those snakes are huge and I sort of like the small ones because they make your Shelby a sleeper. (If you want to call red with white stripes a sleeper :rotf: )

:D Because she's a big girl! :rotf:

5.4 Shelby, I wanted the white w/Blue for the same reasons and Vista would have been my alternate choice too.

Cobrabitn, Snakes of any kind being a sleeper? ; - Not unless you keep it quiet and remove the badging.
