I noticed some seeping around the rear diff seal, and I want to fix it. Anybody have any recommendations for this project? I drive an '01, and I was told to use 75-140 (Royal Purple?), some kind of friction additive, etc. Not sure the best kind of sealant to use...
What I'm really concerned about is how much of a pain it will be to get to the diff cover....I've heard some horror tales.....
Oh, and how much oil should I buy?
Any advice would be appreciated!

Remove all the bolts but the top most one so cover doesn't fly off...just loosen top one and pry cover off ( stuck due to silcone) then clean cover and diff....The reapply with some black RTV and bolt back on....Get a bottle of Ford Friction modifier 4oz. use half....Add 2 Quarts of gear oil along with the modifier...I use Ford gear oil but Royal purple will work good also....Use a 3/8 3 inch extention and a ratchet to remove fill plug on front drivers side of the diff. ( might be tight) then squeeze all your fluids in....If fluid starts running out of the fill hole your done plug it up..... Also plan on getting nasty...Gear oil stinks bad but worse yet the friction modifier is one of the worst smelling stuff made...If you get it on you....You will stink for the rest of the day.....Good luck:thumbsup:

A friend told me the friction modifier is made from whale oil.:doubt: Could be why it smells so bad...
