What do y'all think about an SCMC wall calendar for 2008 with photos of SCMC events and member's cars on the calendar. Most likely the standard size like 10x10 with a flip up to make it 10 x 20? I'm getting the pricing now so I cannot give you a figure just yet. Your thoughts??
Update 12-21-07
Front Cover: (15 photos of various SCMC member's Cobras!)
Calendar Photos by Month
January - Phil Saglimbene - 1993 Vibrant Red SVT Mustang Cobra
February - Tony Sorrentino - 1994 Rio Red SVT Cobra Coupe
March - Brian Groth - 1995 Crystal White SVT Mustang Cobra R
April - Tom Sutton - 1996 Mystic SVT Cobra Coupe
May - Tom Crews - 1997 Crystal White SVT Cobra Coupe
June - Steve Childs - 1998 Bright Atlantic Blue SVT Cobra Convertible
July - Pat Madigan - 1999 Rio Red SVT Cobra Convertible
August - Bruce Cameron - 2000 Performance Red SVT Cobra R
September - Ed Burwell - 2001 Laser Red SVT Cobra Convertible
October - Larry Meyer - 2003 Zinc Yellow SVT Cobra Coupe
November - Allan Scott - 2004 Redfire SVT Cobra Coupe
December - Todd Litz - 2007 Black Shelby GT 500 Convertible
Back Cover - Chris Hull - 2004 Torch Red SVT Cobra Coupe
The pricing is as follows:
$25.00 and includes shipping for anyone who wants to buy one. These are limited to 200 calendars so when we run out, we run out!
SCMC Members get a $5.00 discount so their cost will be $20.00 and includes shipping. We're not making a ton of $$ off of these, mostly just enough to cover the cost and my time and energy as well as send some complimentary calendars out to our sponsors who literally gave us thousands of dollars this year. I think they deserve one, don't you?
I've attached a "beta" front cover as this is NOT the cover but one of two samples that were given to me to select. This is the one I did not select so I'm going to post a "highly edited teaser" for you all to look at. You will like the cover and you will like the calendar, that I can assure you. Most of you know I am pretty picky when it comes to stuff like this especially when it involves SCMC and this is why it has taken longer than I thought. I'm posting this so Edmond can host it up in the store (He needed the photo). You will need your SCMC number and to select if you are a member or not in order to get a discount. If your membership is expired, please do not select that you are a member, believe me, I will check to verify your member status and if you are not a member, your transaction will be voided.
There are no discounts for multiple quantity because the cost is too close to offer that. We're ordering 200 calendars, not 2000 so cost is more when you order a small quantity. The 12 inch by 12 inch (Opens to 12 x 24) calendars have a 100 lb cover front and back and high gloss paper inside that you can flip up with a spiral bound top. My sample calendar looks awesome with the exception of three photos I thought needed some more work and some text changes, hence, the hold up.
Total Calendar Production = 200
Calendars Available for Purchase = 128

I think that would be SAAAWEEEET, Tony. Would you have people post up some high resolution pics and then have someone choose the cars? If doing this can I suggest that the minimum size for the picture needed be no less than 1600X1200 pixels for the pictures to be as crisp as possible on the calendar. Maybe you already know this but thought I'd just mention it just in case you didn't. I would hate to have someone post up a pic that looks good on the computer at say 640X480 and then when you try and blow it up it becomes so pixelated that it becomes unusable. Anyways, maybe you already know all this. I would definately be a buyer of one or 2 if you decided to do this!!!!:D

I think it is a great idea, but how do you choose just 12 cars from a lot of 550+??

I think how most forums that do this is they have about 2 or 3 people either officers or just some people that are randomly picked to vote that year. And you can't have your car in the calendar 2 years in a row. It can be done, it just that people have to understand that obviously not everyone can make it in the calendar for that year and that there is always next year. I don't know how Tony plans on doing it or if he plans on doing it but that is how most do it.

You know my thoughts since we've talked about the idea before, I think it's a great idea. Too bad we probably can't put a picture in the space for each day of the year, that would provide space for more photos but might increase the price.
It would be nice if we could put photos on the days we have events scheduled though (like they did on the 2007 Ford calendar Parkway gave out for holidays and other special days). That would be awesome to be able to have an event picture on those days.

A very long game of "eeny meenie miney mo?"
I was going to suggest a 47 year calendar but at around $1,175.00 each that might be cost prohibitive.

It would be as follows:
January - 1993 model including R model
February - 1994 model including pace car
March - 1995 model including R model
April - 1996 model
May - 1997 model
June - 1998 model
July - 1999 model
August - 2000 model Cobra R
September - 2001 model
October - 2003 model
November - 2004 model
December - 2007 model
It will be a high res photo for the top half with the calendar portion as the bottom half. Then there will be some inserts with other member's cars in them with their name listed below it. For example, we use Steve Childs' VIR photo for the 1998 model but then have different color shots at different angles for say Rich Riley with his 1998 Chrome Yellow Coupe. We would list Rich's name below the photo of his car. I would even like to see members in some of the photos. I don't think we need to get too complicated for a first year, I'd say whoever has the highest resolution photo with the least amount of background in it or an action shot. So we can have more than 12 photos for the calendar, just that they all won't be the cover page for that month, make sense?
I've already got the idea for the cover and I would like to be able to sell 200 of them if possible??
I know we can list SCMC events on the calendar but I am not sure about the photos as they may add too much to the cost, not sure??? Don't want the first one to be too complicated. I can see some burnout pics from Drag Day, and some car show pics from Parkway, as well as open track pics from VIR or Gingerman. I've got literally thousands of pictures from the past ten years so we shouldn't have a shortage there. As far as submitting samples, I agree with you Chris but if you want to post a "smaller sample" of a high res photo then I think that is the way to go.
It'll also contain stats, production numbers, as well as colors of each model year Cobra/Shelby GT 500. Again, something quick, easy, and can be finished before the first of the year...

Gotta have a redfire for November! ;)
If it works out and we get a good enough response to do it again I would suggest making the 2009 ones early enough that we could offer them for sale at the 2008 Parkway show. Mabye even have an '08 calendar on display at VIR next year (and other events prior to Parkway) for people to view and place advance orders for the 2009 calendar.

As far as submitting samples, I agree with you Chris but if you want to post a "smaller sample" of a high res photo then I think that is the way to go.
The reason I mentioned this is because if you are going to be doing a big picture then the pic needs to be a high resolution one with lots of pixels ( you can always shrink a digital pic and still remain crisp but can't blow up a small pic into a big pic without it becomeing very pixelated). Now if what you are saying is it will be OK to post up your pics here on the forum as a sample of what you have in a smaller resolution and then email you the real resolution size to you if chosen then I can see that. I may be totally off in left field as to what you are saying I don't know, and if I am I'm sorry.
Now as far as choosing specific years for certain months maybe kinda difficult to do and if you don't mind can I making a suggestion? The vast majority of this whole forum is 03-04 cobras. Granted there are other year cobras on here but not as many as the Terminators, so it will be easier to choose a less populated year cobra than it would be to choose a more populated year for just 1 month. What if the month with the certain year cobra doesn't get a submission in, then what do you do? Another senerio, what if only 1 guy with a certain year cobra for that specific month is the only one every year to submit his or her car, would he be in it every year? Now lets say there are over 100 submissions for another year cobra and are fighting for 1 spot in the calendar, I think it would be more difficult to just chose 1 car out of all of them to fill 1 month than it would be to chose 1 car out of say 10 submissions for another month. I hope I didn't confuse anyone, and I think this is an awesome way to get more members involved. Whatever you chose Tony, it will turn out great I am sure. I just feel as if it could be more open, and that way everyone has an equal chance at getting the spotlight. There are many very nice cobras, some of the best looking IMHO.
Anyways, I hope I didn't piss anyone off with my suggestions here its just that I was sitting here thinking about it.
Either way I am still going to buy 2-3!!

the calender should be open to all members, and should be expressed to the members through the monthly newsletter. It wouldn't be fair to someone that doesn't frequent the boards. There are a lot of members that don't come to the forums, as that is not their thing. I don't think there are that many more Termies than non-termies on this board.

Tony was saying you could post low res samples of a high res picture. I shoot 3008x2000 for club pics so the ones I send to Tony wont be a problem. :)
I don't think it is going to be that big of a deal that people will be fighting over it. I don't think torch red would look very good for Nov. though.:spoke: ;)
Like Mike said, the news update emails Tony sends can be used to get the word out to everyone and they can start flooding Tony's email with pics. :D
We have a good mix from pretty much all the years and pictures from events can be used to fill in any gaps. There should be enough that there wouldn't be any repeats for quite some time. '93s would probably be the one with the fewest pics to choose from. I think we probably should start simple for the first one like Tony said, especially since it is almost December already. The first one may have to be limited to what Tony has on hand to pick from due to time constraints with members able to submit pics starting with the 2009 calendar since there would be a little more time to put it together. Or the word will have to get out quickly and everyone told they have to get any pics they want to submit sent in ASAP if they want it to be considered.
The reason I mentioned this is because if you are going to be doing a big picture then the pic needs to be a high resolution one with lots of pixels. One of the items I look for is whether you have an SCMC decal on the windshield or a SVT Cobra Club Banner. Take a look at Bruce's photo and look at the side window. Nice scenic background, car in motion with wheels blurred, overall a very good calendar photo. Your thoughts??

Aww come on. Don't be such a spoil sport. That pic just goes to show that Cobra owners enjoy driving their cars! ;)
Don't worry, it got 3 baths the next day when we had to drive through 3 streams on a forestry road we used. Would have been a long walk if we had gotten stuck in one of them though.
You are right on the professional photos, permission would have to be obtained from the photographer (who would probably also want royalties for each calendar sold) which should be obtained in writing. That's why I can't use the Dragon Run IV pics of my car.
TOO DIRTY!!!! I have cleaner ones than that - even with my dirty car!! That I wouldn't want to be seen on a calendar.

Tom,
I need that in a high resolution so you will have to send it to me with maybe 4 megs or more so it will come out clear. Again, this is the first calendar so everyone is not going to be happy how it is done.
Tom L, I need to talk with you about something so can you e-mail me your phone number? Send it to mrmach@comporium.net.
Lisa, those photos were taken by photographers at the track or sent in by individuals for the calendar. Any photographer who takes a pic from any of our events understands that their pictures can and will be used by the club for promotional purposes including website, newsletter, advertising including calendars.
John, Tom, No need to yell, I got your pick for 99 and I'll take it into consideration.
Thanks!

You can get it here http://www.tomcrews.com/images/Cobra.bmp
It's 300dpi, about 6 megs. I've made 20x16" posters with smaller pictures that came out very well. It's scaled a bit because I cut out the building name behind the car from the original.

Wonderful. We're in the lovely city of North Augusta now. I did the 100+ miles a day commute to work in Augusta for long enough (3.5 years). I finally got tired of the gas money, so now I ride a bicycle to work. :D
Anyway, Jimmy is in the Army about to be stationed at Fort Campbell in Kentucky and most likely going to Afghanistan in January. He is excited beyond words and ready to go kick some terrorist a$$! Keri is in college on a full ride, Kati is a senior and will be going to SCAD next year and Bonnie is still the bundle of joy that she's always been. And of course, Janis is her normal beautiful self.
By the way, I have serious plans of building on to the existing garage and building my next track car soon. :bounce:

I spoke with the calendar person today and they should be giving me a sample this week. Once I get that, then it'll be a matter of submitting photos to them along with event dates and club sponsors. Again, not everyone will get to be a full photo for a month but I'll try to please as many people as I can and there is always next year so don't get your feelings hurt if you don't make it. Chris and Robbie, the shots look really nice and will make for a good mix between stills and action photos. I may also would like to have some engine shots if you get used for a monthly photo.

Well seeing that my car got voted off I'm submitting another photo :D I love that shot, there were three of us all alone on the South Course late on Sunday afternoon. Seriously, I think it more important that the calendar reflects the diverse nature of events that the club runs regardless of which cars get on the calender. In other words, we should try to get equal number of static shots, track shots and if possible shots from some of the cruises.

I did not post the original cover because I wanted it to be a surprise as it looks much better than the teaser I posted.
To those of you that appreciate the efforts that were put into this club calendar, I thank you.
Photos were chosen by the following criteria:
Year of Cobra - One model year since 1993 to 2007
Clarity and size of photo - Highest resolution photo so photo would not pixilate for inside of calendar pages and lower resolution for outside cover.
Integrity of Vehicle - Modifications did not change the look of that model year
Color change - Different color Cobras with a background that did not over power the focus of the car.

I'm a little confused. So the picture of the calender is NOT the one you are going with, but the one you are going to use has a front page with 15 members rides on it. Can we get a look at the front cover before we buy?
cobrabitn

Your car is where you see it on the front cover. That cover shot is 1/4 the size of the calendar as my scanner will not scan a 12 inch document. Some member's cars are on there that do not know they are on there so I am not going to scan the entire cover as it is a surprise.
Calendars available 144 of 200.

132 calendars left and the final proof is finished. They will either be produced Monday or Wednesday but all should go out this week!
