Don't think I'd care for the South Course. Seems pretty short and tight.

Here's another view of the July VIR race I posted above, this time from the Honda Challenge S2000 that started the race between my #2 Mystic Cobra and Jimmy Bost's #16 winged Cobra. Jimmy passes the S2000 and battles to keep him behind (note the dive-bomb tap later in the video) while trying to catch me, while I'm trying to get away and catch the silver ST2 Corvette that I failed to get by at the start.

John seemed to like it... :DIt's hard not to giggle from the right side of a Lightning driven hard on any road course. Especially a tight one. Always feels to me like we're doing something that shouldn't be possible. :lol:

The blower whine alone is enough to make anyone giggle. :)

Edit: Just watched it again. Was that a Lightning?

Hard to believe it's approaching the 5th model year for that platform. I still think of my Mystic as a "newer" Mustang. Still, with the same blower whine, even more power and Lightning-esque weight (4300 lbs + with driver/passenger?) I'm sure the GT500 is a hoot on track!

OK John, here's a short one from your old Mystic in my season finale at Summit. Chasing a Mustang Challenge FR500S running in AIX. Note his late braking from the Goodrich R1 tires and factory tuned aero.

Lost a piece of the #1 intake valve. After tearing it down I discovered that I had also bent all the exhaust valves (and made new reliefs in the pistons) back in June at HyperFest when I hit 3rd gear instead of 5th. My severe distributor gear wear issue that I discovered after VIR in July was no doubt due to the strain of embedding bits of metal into the oil pump wall. Turns out the long metal shavings I was finding earlier in the year weren't from the cam thrust plate after all - the exhaust valve spring dampers had cut up the shims.

For this year I replaced the 10 year old Manley valves with Ferrea 6000 series and the similar vintage springs with stiffer Comps that should keep the valves away from the pistons at 7k rpm (in case I ever miss that shift again), plus I had the spring pockets cut for tool steel seats. Hopefully it'll be a long time before I have another motor related DNF.

This was 2 seconds faster than my previous best. I have another clip I'm working on that has 2 consecutive laps averaging 2:16:50 seconds per lap. Not bad for 300 rwhp and 3710lbs with driver, IMHO:D

But did you notice how he pulled away from me on the long front straight? And I was hitting about 145-150 mph at my brake point into turn one. The GT guy runs fairly regular with the Porsche clubs at Roebling Rd. Beautiful car.....and he was on race rubber too
