I'm considering coming down to the SCMC VIR Track Event May 30th through June 1st with a couple other guys. I was wondering if there are any others from New England planning on making the trip down too?
Steve Childs and I are definitely going. I have talked to a few other who said they might be coming.

The guys I usually do track events with are on the fence about making the trip, but I will know if they are definitely going within a week or so.
Are you and Steve C. following each other down and back? Trailering? When are you planning to head down and back?
I'm just thinking, regardless of what the other guys decide, I may want to head down anyway and maybe follow you guys. Would that be ok?

Steve and I went last year and we're planning to travel together again this year. The current is plan is that I will be trailering my Factory Five coupe (if it's done) and Steve will be driving his Cobra. We traveled down in one day last year and we were really beat the next day at the track so we're going to take two days this year. The plan is to leave on the 28th and return on the 3rd. You welcome to join us. We drive at reasonable speeds and take breaks every 2-3 hours.
VIR is a great facility, you're going to have a blast.

I was thinking about how beat I'd be after a 10 - 11 hr ride too. I definitely wouldn't want to be tired for Friday's Full Course.:bounce: I have to think about it some more and I'll let you know what I decide.

Doing an over night stay while you are driving down is definitely the way to go. When I go to MI for the Gingerman event, I do an overnighter in Ohio so I'll be fresh for Saturday. This year I'm planning on doing the Friday afternoon track run since we'll have the track for 4 hours Friday afternoon!

Hey, you still have 4 months to get one.;)
I never thought I would ever put one in my vert, but all it took was one track event with my BMW that made me realize I wanted to experience the same thrill in my Cobra vert. The didn't want it to be permanent, so I compromised.:yup:
I bought an Autopower 4 pt. bolt-in Roll Bar that has the removable horizontal and diagonal crossbars. I use Grade 8 hardware and steel backing plates. I only do a few track events a year, so usually a week before the event I bolt in the bar (takes about 2 hours). Then, when I get home from the event I take it out and regain full use of my interior. :headbang:
The bar cost me $560 shipped from CA to MA. Another $200 to powder coat it, $50 for Grade 8 hardware and $300 for a pair of G-force 5pt cam lock belt harnesses. Not being told I can't run on the open track or dragstrips, Priceless!!!

I have the same bar that Craig has. Mustangs Unlimited carries Autopower bars. Give them a call and see what kind deal they have. You might be able to save on shipping ($125 from CA). If you want the same bar as we have it's the race roll bar with the optional bolt in harness bar and diagonal brace. Don't get the the street bar, it won't pass tech.
VIR is a fabulous track. There's an in car video posted in the forum. Check it out :bounce:

Ed,
You should try to get the two days prior to the event and maybe one day after. That way you can drive part of the way home on Sunday and then the rest of the way on Monday. It's much easier on you, believe me. :D

Steve Childs did all our traveling in one day last year and it really affected us the next day at the track. It's will be a much more pleasant trip taking two days. There are a few of us traveling together from NE so it should be fun.
VIR is worth the vacation time
Remember driving home from Summit Point last year right from the track... pretty beat by the time I rolled in. Will get the time and look to hook up for the trip.

Great, you know how to get in touch with me.
If you haven't booked your hotel room in Danville...it's time! The rooms are filling up fast. I called the club's hotel (Sleep Inn) last night and got the room we wanted but I been told it's getting tight.
Here's the link their site. Don't book on line, give them a call and tell them your with the club

Just booked my room at Best Western. Can't make travel plans until I confirm my work schedule next month. Pat, what vehicle are you taking?

Steve and I stayed there last year. It's nice and just up the street from Sleep Inn.
The plan is still to take the FF Coupe.
My travel plans have changed for VIR. Unfortunately Steve is not going to able to make it and I'm looking for a travel partner(s).
Ed, do know what your plans are yet?
Craig, do you know when your leaving? It would be nice if we could all travel together.
I'll contact the Masiellos and see what their plans are.
Not going to be able to leave before Wed eve, will probably just take off early Thursday morning (NLT 5 AM). Would be nice to drive down with others.
I'm not going to be able to make it this year. My mom has been become very sick and I don't want to be to far away in case something happens.
I think the Masiellos are leaving on Weds. Do you have contact info for them?
Sorry to hear about your Mom, Pat. Hope things work out for the best. I can reach the Ms thru another board.
