You can go with Gene Evans Ford or Late Model Restoration. We get a discount at Late Model so they may be a little bit less. www.50resto.com and ask for Brad.

Come on guys, the guy is asking about prices, that means numbers. Don't just say you got a good deal, post some prices of what you paid and where or the lowest price you know of. Brenspeed sells a kit for 233.09 shipped. You can get it off ebay or directly from Brenspeed. Their kit has everything except the oil, you can pick that stuff up at O'Reilly's, Autozone, etc. That's the lowest price I've found. I hate when we talk about prices but never really mention any prices. It really does help those that are reading about a certain mod to see what the actual cost of doing the mod would be. For most of us, the price is the determining factor for a mod. Let's stop being so shy about money.

This is what I've found so far..

GEF.............$207.
steeda.........$239.95
RPM outlet ...$239.95
summit.........$199.
50resto........$149.95 (without asking for the SCMC discount)

Thats just gears without the rebuild kit. And by the way witch rebuild kit will I need? They have three different levels.

Thanks for the help so far, Joe

I got mine (3.55 gears) at GE Ford for $149.00 a couple of years ago and they had the same price at Late Model. The only reason I went with the Ford place was because I had to have another "Ford only" part so I thought I'd save on shipping. I always recommend Late Model first especially since they are very customer orientated and have extremely competitive prices.

Most of them describe the kit as a "basic" install or a "master" install kit. You want the "master" kit. You want one that includes new bearings. American Muscle has it for about $235 w/ free shipping on everything. That's for a gear, kit, and bearings. That's about the same price as Brenspeed. The Brenspeed price is a little lower, but when you add shipping, it's about the same. And when you're looking at actual gear brands, remember Motive gears are the same as Ford Racing. Motive makes the gears for Ford, same gear but the Motive ones are usually cheaper. I think $235 is about the lowest you will find. I believe if you buy Jegs brand gears and their master install kit you will come out around $235 as well. A gear is a gear, the part that matters most is who does the install. There are many shops out there that don't do it right. Do not let some shop tell you that gear whine is normal for a high gear, that's not true. Gear whine is the result of a poor install. Make sure you talk to the shop beforehand and make sure they understand this, many don't.

I think many of those 'install kits' are for solid axle cars. Make 100% sure they apply to the IRS before you drop the money on one.

I didn't even look to see what car you had, but I think they still work. The kit is the same. American muscle ( www.americanmuscle.com (http://www.americanmuscle.com/) ) sells the kit in the 99-04 category, so I assume they will work, but it wouldn't hurt to call them. If it does work, then $235 is going to be your best price for a gear and a complete install kit w/ bearings. Keep us posted on what you choose and where you get it and price. Also post the price you pay for install.

American muscle ( www.americanmuscle.com (http://www.americanmuscle.com/) ) sells the kit in the 99-04 category

Don't forget there are solid axle cars in the 99-04 category (standard Mustangs). On Summit Racing, when you choose the 'gear and install kit combo' section for a 2001 Mustang, the Cobra disappears from the model listing (only GT and Bullitt remain).

DEFINITELY check fitment to IRS for an install kit before purchase.

I agree, you should check before you buy. Call American Muscle or Brenspeed and ask. But I don't think the price of the kit's for IRS and solid axle can be that different on price. I still think these two places will have your best prices.

Well a few things have changed. I was hoping to have the gears in by now but no luck so I'm going to have them installed at a local shop. I am busy every weekend till the 4th of July.
I go to the place to make the appointment and he says 4.10 are a lot of RPM on the highway. I cant find the gear calculator can someone post one up please.
Thanks.

4.10s are not much RPM on the highway at all. I have 4.10s in my '97 Cobra.....and wish I had gone 4.30s. I've driven many many miles on the highway and around town.

4.10 is an all purpose gear for the 4.6 DOHC cars.....

My MPG didn't change at all when I went from the stock 3.27 to 4.10. My smile got tremendously larger though!! :)

theres only 2 gearsets I would recommend and thats ford racing and motive. Motive actually makes the 430 and up ford racing gears. I got 4:10motives from summit best price I could find, even better than 10% over cost on ford racing gears. I purchased the rebuild kit from steve at tousley ford. He sells ford racing parts 10% over cost and wont kill you on shipping either. 1-800-328-9552 Guys top notch and knows his stuff.

Back from the dead.

It's been crazy and I have just reached 500 miles since the install on the may 15th and 1000 miles since we pulled it out of storage april first. The weather hasn't been much help either.

As for the install here is the break down on pricing...

$300. remove rebuild diff. unit and install
$96. bearing kit
$280 ford 410 gears
$100 four wheel alignment
$49 synthetic dif. lube
$00 install dif. brace
______
$825 total

All work done by Woodwards Garage in Kalamazoo Mi.
I dont know if that was a good price or not but Rons shop does great work and I trust him with my car.
