I wanted to let everyone know that Jimmy is in the hospital. I took him to emergency room at Houston Northwest Medical Center around 7 this morning, where he promptly passed out and has been getting intensive treatment ever since. He is in the Medical ICU now and until he is in the clear, has no phone calls to the room. He had an episode of bleeding varices, which is quite serious but the banding procedure done seems to be working. They were going to do a transfusion when they sent me home at 10:00. More tests (always more tests) in the morning and I will certainly know more in 24 hours. Please, keep this very dear man close in your hearts and prayers. If you need to call, please call me on my cell at 713-417-6008.
Thank you - Gail

Please know that my heart & prayers go out to Jimmy and his family. From a personal stand point I know exactly what you all are going through. I went through this with my father 2 times and I he had the same banding procedure done and it was successful for him...so please keep strong and keep faith...

Gail was kind enough to take a moment and provide an update...
Jimmy is out of ICU and into his own room and seems to be stabilizing. Apparently the ruptured vein thingy in his neck is now holding and the transfusion was successful!

Jimmy had a MUCH better day today. The transfusion turned him around and he came out of the ICU around 5:00 this evening. Yeah! He is hurtin' but they are keeping him highly medicated and he is getting a LOT of rest! He is not up to visits or calls yet, but when I told him so many were concerned, he was quite humbled and said will respond to you as soon as he can. He may be able to come home Saturday, if he continues to progress positively. The doctors said he is doing good and feel very positive he can be put back on track (and .. I dont think they meant asphalt). Thank you all for the kindness and prayers. God heard and answered.

Thanks everyone!
I see the doctor on Tuesday afternoon. He will determine when I go back to work, if I need more ligation (banding), if I am a liver transplant candidate, and if and when I can return to my track hobby, and probably some other stuff I don't know about yet.
So even though I feel pretty good right now, I guess I am still pretty much at risk of another portal hypertension induced, ruptured gastroesophageal varices bleeding event. BTW anyone with a type A positive liver they aren't using give me a call. LOL! :D You only get one liver silly!
The upside is that with proper treatment it is a fairly survivable health issue.
They feel that I am in pretty good shape for a 56 year old, and indicated that would be very helpful in my recovery efforts.
I already miss the "action" at the parts counter at work.
So I have been posting a lot, reading, and watching track videos.
"Nurse Gail" has been terrific, as usual, I am so blessed to have her by my side! She's working "remotely" today and tomorrow so she can keep a vigilant eye on her stubborn semi-broken man. :p

Dangit Jimmy, you tell that Doc you got an appointment with an asphalt apex soon and he needs to get you fixed up pronto. Sounds like the nurse has done her part, Doc needs to do his lol.
Hope to see you at a track soon, or at least once the 105 degree TX weather fades away and old guys like us can come out to play all weekend.
