Rear end is leaking

Hey, my rear end is leaking (on the Cobra). :rotf:

I am going to take the differential cover off, and redo the seals. What I need to know is how much oil is it going to take to fill it? What brand to use? Thanks:thumbsup:

Usually there is a fill hole, just fill it up till it starts to come out then close it up. :thumbsup: As far as weight, I couldn't help you out with that.

well, when I go buy the oil, will buying one quart be enough? Or, will I need to buy two? I didn't know if there was an exact amount.

Royal Purple 75w90?That weight sounds right. I would buy at least 3 but think 2 will do. I can't remember exactely but will try and find out for ya. :thumbsup:

1997 Service Manual specification is 80W90 in a total of 4 Pints. However if using Additive Friction Modifier (4 oz) then you would use 3.75 Pints of rear axle lubricant. Royal Purple claims that friction modifier is not required with their lubricant. The Service Manual states, "Always fill rear axle to bottom of filler hole."

I did the same thing as Larry stated and still use friction modifier.

I used Havoline synthetic with friction modifier.

I'd definitely use the friction modifier...I used the Royal Purple stuff in a Camaro rear end that I built up and didn't use the friction modifier type stuff per RP's instructions and it didn't take long to destroy the rear end...okay, maybe destroy is a bit excessive, but when I went to change the stuff out (I'm weird...I do it fairly regularly, within reason) there were tons of metal shavings and such in there...main reason I checked it is it felt like I was having "clunking" and possible slippage in the rear and wanted to check it out.

So, for what it hurts to put in friction modifier (nothing), it's worth putting it in, regardless if they say it's not needed or what not. :thumbsup:

Clean the bleeder aswell. The bleeder gets clogged fairly easily causing the fluid to leak.
