Lighting, composition and content, and of course an SCMC member's car. But what qualifies as a good calendar submission candidate?

This thread will serve as an aid to help those wondering what is needed to have a calendar submission that may be chosen for the SCMC calendar. This should give everyone a better idea what we are looking for and it will also hopefully spark some creativity.

I may post pictures in this thread that will be reviewed by selected volunteers that will point out strengthnes and/or weaknesses about the picture. The pictures may or may not be ones that have been submitted for the calendar. Any picture that has been posted on the SCMC boards in any forum is subject to being used in a review. The person who took the picture will not be identified. The reviews will address the picture itself with no comments directed towards the person who took the picture.

If you have questions about a picture you have taken feel free to post it in this thread for general comments from everyone. If you want a picture reviewed by the volunteer reviewers email it to me. Only pictures I have posted will be reviewed and any others posted here will be open to general comments from anyone.

The reviews will be put into my post with the picture they are reviewing to make it easier to keep track of which reviews go with which picture. The reviewer will be identified by their screen name and everyone will be encouraged to post questions or comments about the reviews.

This thread will be pruned of off topic or other comments that don't add to the subject at hand to keep it from getting cluttered.

I already have one person willing to review and would like to have at least two more. If you have a photographic background, or several years experience in photography (this includes amateur photographers) and are willing to be a reviewer please let me know by PM or email. I ask that you be available to both review all pictures I post and respond to questions that are posted about your review.

Note: If you have questions about a potential calendar submission please post it here before putting it in the calendar thread so we don't clutter up the calendar submission thread.

If you have more than one picture, please make a separate post for each picture to keep it simple. If replying about a picture please use the quote option. Replies about pictures should have meaningful comments that help the poster and should not be vague.

All comments must address the picture only. The goal is to help all of us get better pictures, not to insult anyone.

Get busy taking photos and good luck on your SCMC calendar submissions!

**Remember you must be a SCMC member with dues paid up in order for your pictures to be considered for the calendar.**

I don't know what all Tony wanted me to do for the calendar other than chose the submissions but, I think he mentioned layout too. I was thinking the layout would have been cool to have a full picture on the page with some basic info about the car itself (mods) and the owner. Also was thinking if there were 2 pics sent in from the same member (say outside and motor pic) the the motor pic could be used as an insert on his/her picture. If I am not doing the layout then thats OK since I am not for sure what all I am to do.
BTW Allan, thanks for trying to make my job harder, LOL. :D J/K

Sounds like you have a good plan for the layout. Personalized info is great as well as real (dyno) hp numbers.

I still laugh everytime someone says the 03/04 has 390 hp/tq. :)

I'm not sure what Tony has in mind, whether that the layout is all up to you or if he was going to do it, or do it by committee. I know the layout will depend on the submitted photos that are chosen. However, I say go ahead and get your layout ideas together as it would be much better to have a starting point than to start from scratch in November. I think the intent was for you to oversee submission choices and layout but I can't speak for Tony so that is a guess.

I told Chris he was in charge of the calendar for 2009 and to solicit help so more members can be involved. Other members should get involved in the selection process for the photos. Layout can be discussed by the panel of members that are helping Chris. Nothing wrong with helpful suggestions from any member as long as it is constructive.

The layout sounds like a nicely thought out design, so I think that would work. You'll also have to come up with a blending color scheme as well. Don't want to have clashing colors or overly done colors taking away from the photos itself. Even though it's a calendar, you really want all of the focus on the main photo (even if you have an inset as you explained above).

Thanks Mat. Yeah the inset idea was just to say that if 1 person submitted there car and maybe a engine pic that were both good then I think it would work good togather. All that will be done by the maker of the calendar.
