Technical Questions: Oil in Intake

Might any one of the Cobra aficionados in the Forum happen to know the structure of the "emissions and engine control system" well enough to explain why oil might be being sucked through the PCV valve and into the intake manifold?


By what various routes or by what vacuum circuit malfunctions might oil be sucked into the intake manifold (including valve seals, etc.)?

I'll try this setup in the interim. However, next week, the mechanic who rebuilt the engine is going to pull apart the intake manifold, to see if oil is pooling-up in the bottom of the intake, as we suspect. The filter setup you recommend should allow me to gauge just how much oil was getting sucked into the intake, if any.

If it turns out that there is no oil pooling-up in the intake, there are bigger issues to be dealt with, since I now know that the car is burning a quart of oil every two weeks, and there is the constant smell of oil burning at idle. Even so, you can only see smoke from the exhaust after you let the car idle for a little while, so I don't suspect rings.

If you are using that much oil, I suspect you have a valve guide/seal problem which will also cause erratic vacuum.

I suspect valve seals as well, but I hate to admit it. Whatever is causing the oil to burn at such a rapid rate, I'll know more after I install the above filter setup, and after the mechanic removes the intake manifold to see if oil is pooling-up at the bottom of the intake manifold.
