Paintjob

Hey guys,

I have a 2001 zinc yellow cobra and the color is getting to me. I have had this color for two years but I just can't stand how it looks. I started looking for paintjobs but they are apparently going to run me anywhere from $3-4000 CND. I really can't afford to spend that much money on a paintjob. I met a guy tonight, though, who said he can do it for $700 CND. To me, it seems like it might be worth looking into although I'm nervous because if he screws it up, then I'm out closer to $5G's. Just wanted to get some advice to see if its worth going to someone like this for a paintjob or if its better to just save up and throw big bills at the paint sharks.

It might also be worth mentioning that the paint is in mint condition and I have been told not to repaint it as it will just screw up the paintjob that has nothing wrong with it. Thanks. Mike

You bought that color I would assume because you liked it? I'm not a big fan of changing colors from their original color although others have been successful with a color change.

My opinion, leave the paint as it is especially if it is in good condition. The grass always looks greener on the other side and take that $700.00 and use it to go enjoy the car. :thumbsup:

Yeah, to clarify, I bought the car used and didn't have a choice in the color. It wasn't horrible when I bought it, mind you. It just got to me like a bad girlfriend.:rotf:And that's pretty much what I've been told in terms of leaving it the way it is. But, like I said, yellow is a heartbreaker. Thanks for the reply.

Why dont you head over to the YellowMustangRegistry.com and see if they can change your mind about the color;)
If not maybe someone over there may be interested in buying it and you could then find one in the color you like.

i would not do it for 700 bucks the material cost more than that, so just imagine what its going to turn out like.the way i see it is you get for what you pay for.. my other ride is a escalade and it was black i changed the colour to ruby red and paid 8gs canadian but let me tell you ,you would never had known the truck was black before..so if you hate the colour that bad ask around and see who people recomend for paint work and spend the money

I could paint the car for $700 using a gallon of house paint and a brush.

I work with a lot of body shops. In order to correctly change the color of the car, the inside door jams, hinge, pillar, radiator panel, and the engine bay must be painted. So the engine bay must be cleaned out. Materials alone will cost $500 to $700. The entire job should run around $4000 to $5000. This does not include money to fix any body dings.

You would be better off to sell the car and get a color that you can live with.

I agree with Bill. We see things like this all the time in the construction industry. If you have a bidder that is substantially underbidding everyone else, run, don't walk away. For 700, you'll definitely get what you paid for and not a cent more.

i'd be scared to death to see what a $700 paint job would look like! aside from the paint/clearcoat and materials getting you pretty close to that point, what kind of prepping is he gonna do to it? I totally agree with badpny! If you dislike the way it looks now, wait til you blow $700 bucks and see how much more you dislike it (overspray/nonmatching door jambs, engine bay, etc.)

I just got my baby back out of the body shop. Just to repair/repaint the right rear 1/4 panel it cost @$1400. But, you get what you pay for, and it was well worth it!
