Note to Instructors: If you want to be an instructor, you will not have a run group. You will have to join in on either blue group or yellow group to get your track time. If you just want to run track all weekend then do not sign up to be an instructor. We're looking for people who are willing to sacrifice their personal track time so others can be taught how to run open track. Does that mean you will not get any track time? No. Does it mean you "may" get less track time? Yes. I want to be honest and up front with our instructors. You have to be honest and up front with me and either pay for the weekend or be there to help and assist at the event and not worry about how much time you get on the track, thanks.

How do I know which run group I am eligible for? To determine your run group, use this as a guideline:

Advanced –Blue (SCMC/SAAC/SVTOA 10+ previous track events)
Intermediate— Red (SCMC/SVTOA 4-9 previous track events)
Intermediate – Orange (SAAC 4-9 previous track events)
Beginner – Green (0-3 SCMC/SAAC/SVTOA track events)

Instructor - White (20 + track events) Must Be Approved! Contact Tony for approval.

You must be a member of one of the following clubs in order to run open track at this event. (SCMC, SAAC, SVTOA)

Note: If you are a member of the SCMC's sister club, Track Club USA, you will be counted as a SCMC member.

To join these clubs go to their respective websites

SCMC (SVT Mustang Cobra and Shelby GT 500 owners Only) $20.00 - www.svtcobraclub.com (http://www.svtcobraclub.com)
SVTOA (Open to all Fords) $45.00 www.svtoa.com (http://www.svtoa.com)
SAAC (Open to all Fords) $50.00 www.saac.com (http://www.saac.com)
Track Club USA - $30.00 (Open to all Fords)www.trackclubusa.com (http://www.trackclubusa.com)

Please note by attending this event you will be eligible for a $15.00 per day discount for the fall SCMC track event at VIR on October 15-16, 2011. This discount is only good for members of the SCMC/SVTOA/TCUSA only.

Sounds like a great event...but it appears as if the club event has been hijacked by SAAC. I tried to reserve a hotel room at the track and was told that they are all for SAAC and I can't make a reservation. What's up?

cobrabitn

I can take care of that for you David. SAAC has reserved all of the garages but we get to have a few of them as agreed upon on our conference call.

We have three clubs involved in this event so I would venture to say that this will be the largest Shelby, SVT, Mustang, and Ford On track/car show event on the east coast.

SAAC fills their events, SVT Cobra Club/SVTOA filled their event this year, it's going to be a blast! The Boss reunion will not be held this year in conjunction with this event as they will be joining the SE MI Mustang Club at the Ford World HQ in August. The final decision was made this past week and we hope that maybe next year they'll be a part of the Superfest.

Ron at SAAC and I stay in constant contact, we are trying to feed the information to everyone at the same time so all clubs will know what is going on at the same time.

Lee Holman of Holman/Moody will be at this event and will be at the SCMC/SVTOA dinner banquet as our guest speaker. SAACs banquet will be off site while SCMC/SVTOA will be on site. We also look to have magazine coverage for this event, after all, it's not every year we have this kind of event going on, right?

They are still working on the room reservations. The track is dictating something to us concerning the rooms and garages. I'm waiting on Ron to let me know what they said concerning the rooms.

In the mean time, the Sleep Inn has given us 40 rooms at $75.99 and $79.99 depending on what type room you want. I strongly encourage everyone to go ahead and reserve your room now if you plan to stay there because you may have problems later.

We are still working on the registration forms, it's difficult with getting everything to apply to all groups. I would say by the end of the month or January 1, 2011 is the target date.

Tony - I have always stayed at the track for convenience. I got the same story from Tammy at VIR office - that SAAC is controlling the Paddock rooms and garages for sure - and the Lodge and Villas situation hasn't been determined. She's putting together a wait list - tho I don't like that idea.

What's the deal? Is this a SAAC/SVTCC event - or a SAAC event that we got invited to?

I'm not going to get into all of that he said/she said..who's event it is. It's a joint event between the three clubs for this year. It was a decision between all of us so you guys have to be patient while we work out some of the details. Thanks...

Tony,

I plan on coming down to the event as in 2009. I stayed in one of the rental RV's in 2009 which was cheap and very, very nice. I was told Friday that they are not even available to me at this time for rental.

Just an FYI....I will keep watching for further clarification and details.

Merry Christmas!

Mike, were these Richard Bagby's rentals from Trackside Services?
A bunch of us were planning on doing that, but hadn't contacted him yet.

Mike,

I talked to Richard Bagby yesterday. He has one trailer to rent if you want to rent it? The track bought the rest of the trailers so you will have to contact the track direct to rent one of those trailers.

As for the rooms/garages, the track is dictating to us that the garages/rooms are rented as a package deal. If you plan to get a room and garage, then e-mail me direct so I can make arrangements to get you a room and garage.

Thanks!

I just called the Sleep Inn, they told me they still had 30 rooms reserved for us and they also had some non-reserved rooms available. Call them again and get your room reserved.

The track also called me and said there were rooms at the Villas which is a "condo" type room. SCMC also has some garages with rooms over them on the front stretch. If you want one of these rooms, you should contact me ASAP.

Thanks,

Tony

The updated first post indicates that...

"You must be a member of one of the following clubs in order to run open track at this event. (SCMC, SAAC, SVTOA)"

What about your sister club TCUSA? Track Club membership has always been acceptible for all SCMC events.

Okay, we have the following number of rooms for the SCMC.

3 Lodge rooms = $175.00 a day and you have to rent it for three days. You will need to contact me so I can call the track and give them your name.

9 Garage Rooms = $1200.00 plus tax for three days and you must rent for all three days. You'll make a check out to the club for this one.

Don't shoot the messenger, it is what it is and this is what it is. There are still rooms available at the Sleep Inn. We have the event schedule nailed down already and reg forms should be up soon.

Thanks,

Tony

Not trying to bust chops here...but someone has to ask the question...

If VIR Lodge rooms are only $110 a night...how does SAAC get away with tacking on a 60% premium AND make it a 3 night minimum? That's crazy! We've had many years of successful events without them...I hope club management seriously reconsiders this joint event for future years.

cobrabitn
01-10-2011, 10:08 AM
Nope, you'll be paying the track direct not the clubs. We are just giving them the names of people renting. Again, it's a track decision not ours for the price increase. This event is just for this year as SAAC moves their events around each year and never in the same place each year. The situation was they had the weekend after ours and they had 3 days of full course. We had the Memorial Day weekend and the full/north/north. It only made sense to have three days of "Grand Course" for all clubs involved. Put yourself in our position, we have the same people coming to both of our events, hence the Superformance group, and we would be stepping all over each other for participants so why not have one big event rather than an event where we don't get enough participants and lose money? You simply cannot run events when you are losing money and that's why we dropped NJMP, CMP, TWS, MSR, and Gingerman. Do you want to see our VIR events go by the wayside, too? Please, some of you guys are making this very difficult to keep having these events. There are also other reasons ...

On a more positive note, if you attend the May VIR event then you will receive a significant credit toward the October event or any future event.

Hello everyone,

Been lurking here since last year, when I was planning to attend Superfest 2010. Didn't make it. Probably not the best place for my first post. But I have a few questions about the 2011 event, which I will be attending with a group of 15+ friends.

Are garages available without the suite? If so, what is the cost?

We have been in contact with VIR about reserving 2 villas. They said we will be put on a wait list??? I don't get it. If we (our group) decide to stay at the lodge, we need 10-11 rooms. Is this even possible, (through SAAC), or should we just give up and book off site?

Track time? Who is in charge of the track portion of the event, and how will the run groups be set up?

Thanks,

cobrabitn
01-13-2011, 09:59 AM
Go back three posts for the hotel answers.

The track portion will be set up with 5 run groups, 3 sessions a day and a Historic race group. Groups will be categorized by skill level.

I did miss the "garage only" info in post #19.

Not sure if we're going to take the chance with the VIR wait list or just book off site.

Me, I'm spoiled from my first event there last August with Trackdaze. Stayed at the lodge two days, so I'd like to stay on site for this event. I'm just kind of leery about this wait list.

Thanks for the reply,

And if I can add my two cents...

I go to VIR 2~3 times a year with NASA, and me and my friends always stay in one of the motels in Danville or South Boston. Danville's a bit closer, S. Boston's a bit cheaper.

Either way, if anyone wants to go to Supefrest, don't let a concern about lodging stop you.

Either way, if anyone wants to go to Supefrest, don't let a concern about lodging stop you. :thumbsup:No, we'll be there no matter where we stay. It just would work out (and it still may) for our group of 13-14 to stay in 2 villas. We tried the Sleep Inn, but they only had 6 double rooms left, so we booked at the Fairfield, which was also reasonable.

Semi hijack on/

Greg, I'm pretty sure I spoke with you at Carlisle in 2008. I was pointing out to my brother the tires on your car, which I believe were Falken RT615's. At the time, I was in the market for a 96-98 Cobra. You introduced me to someone (sorry, don't remember his name) who was selling one parked under the Brooks Racing tent. It was out of my range in price and mods, but I finally did find a bone stock 96 in April of 09. :D

Looking forward to meeting you (again), and other folks at this event.

You ever make it up to NJMP? A group of us are going to the NASA HPDE at Lightning on 4/16 to blow off the cob webs.

Hijack off\ (sorry)

One of my friends is thinking about arriving on Wed. instead of Thurs., as most of our group is planning. He and 4 or 5 others will be towing down from Jersey. He thinks (or he heard some say) that trailer parking may be a problem, late on Thursday. His other concern is with the number of cars that may be registered for track time, will there be enough time to get through tech and not miss any session time?

I think it's overkill to arrive that early just for parking and tech.

Should he be concerned with either subject?

Thanks,

cobrabitn

The way it "should" happen is that we do tech all day on Thursday at the track so everyone will be ready to hit the track on Friday morning. There will be a group in there running full course so we will not be allowed in the north paddock area but rather we can set up tech on the skid pad as we have done for numerous events.

There will be 5 run groups with 50 participants per run group. You will get three sessions per day on the grand course, each with a 30 minute run time. That means over the weekend, you'll get 4.5 hours of track time minimum. Usually on Sunday afternoon we will combine groups which may allow you to get event more track time.

Try to understand that this is more than just a "HPDE" weekend. It's an event with historic Mustang racing, car shows, vendors, and hopefully something special from Ford. :)

We are aware of the north paddock area limitations and we'll do everything we can to get all of the "track" participants in the north paddock area. We've looked at it on the map and we feel we should be able to do this but to say we 1000% are going to get everyone in there would be an assumption I wouldn't guarantee. Do I think we'll get everyone in there? Yes. Can I 1000% guarantee you that? No.

My advice to you is to get there early enough on Thursday to get your car through tech. Once you have that completed then you will not miss out on any track time.

Okay, I've opened hard copy registration for us today. We do not have "online" registration set up yet as I'm waiting on our web guy to get it set up. If you want to go ahead and register with the SCMC, then you can do so now by mailing in a check. The final event schedule will be up soon but you can see the track schedule for the event in the first post. Remember, each club gets 125 participants and I do not look for that to stay open too long. This is going to be a fun event, I hope everyone has a good time!

If you are not a member of the SCMC then you will want to go to www.scmcstore.com and sign up. You have to own an SVT Mustang in order to be a member. If you own a Mustang or Ford (Non-SVT) and want to be counted as an SCMC member, then you'll want to join Track Club USA which is our sister club. Go to http://www.trackclubusa.com/membership.html to join on line.

I do concur. More than half our group is coming down for the off-track events. And yes, the diversity of activities (and vehicles) is going to make this a great Ford event.

That may be part of the problem, as we have a ten hour ride/tow to get there. Depends on how late tech will be open. I understand this is all very early, but, any idea?

01-16-2011, 04:10 PM
Probably all day till at least 7:00 p.m., possibly later. If you leave around 6:30 a.m. then you should be able to make tech on Thursday evening. We want to get as many people teched on Thursday that we can. If you wait till Friday then we cannot guarantee that you will not miss track time. All of this depends on what run group you will be in?

Now, if you want to bring me some dinner, then maybe I'll stay even later.... :rotf: J/K

From looking at the groupings it appears to me that the SAAC won't be running against the other clubs except in the beginners group. Correct? And are the instructors running with the advanced groups according to club? Just curious as one reason to come it to get to run against the SAAC cars, but it looks like that won't happen.

Please have everyone register through the SVT Cobra Club for anything to do with the Superfest. Yes, you can run open track all weekend but again, register through us. You can do the Shelby race but you'll have to register for that through SAAC. When you register, let them know you've already paid the gate fee through us and the three days on track through us also. Yea, we all have current racing licenses and current medicals.

Darius,

I'm not Mr. Weatherman, but I've lived here in VA for a while. Bring the canopy. If a storm starts brewing, you'll usually have enough warning to take it down. The sun gets to beating down quite severely down here in Virginia and you'll be thankful for the shade a canopy provides.

Bring the canopy, but in many cases there are quite a few canopies that get destroyed as VIR is notorious for quick powerful storms & wind. A few years ago we were on the track running, it started raining just after we went around Oak Tree, and by the time we got into the paddock we had already lost multiple canopies. I tie mine to my 46' Gooseneck so that I don't loose them!
