Count me in! I'm looking forward to this 3 day VIR event next summer with the Mustang gang. I was hoping for a day or two of the Grand East course... Mike

The Grand Course is 70K for the three days, not going to happen this year. The May event was probably a once in a life time event or at least every 5 years. Personally, I like the full course much better! :)

AlohaC5
12-13-2011, 11:10 PM
Grand East is definitely expensive. Great idea having three clubs come together to pull that awesome event off! I really enjoyed last May! 3 days of road course driving Paradise for me since its my favorite circuit next to Watkins Glen in either the Mustang or the Corvette. Ok, I'll be there in 5 years. See you next summer.

I'll be spreading the word to the MD/VA contingency. Three days of full course....better bring extra brake pads and money for fuel.

I'll miss not running the North Course a little. The Grande is something to do once every 5 years or so, IMO.

01-17-2012, 12:12 AM
I like the north course, too but since we will be running 5 run groups, it will be limited to three sessions per day, hence the three days of full course. Most people would rather run the full over the north so I'm just going with the majority.

Why 5 run groups? You can put 50+ cars on the full course with no problems if everyone plays nice. That is a lot of cars! Would rather get 4 sessions per day.

Just run 25 minute sessions if needed, that is what most groups run. They also combine the advanced & instructors at the end of Sunday.

I have been trolling around these forums for some time now and decided to sign up and introduce myself since I will be with you for 3 days in May. Just signed up for VIR and am very anxious to be with you guys again. Two years ago was my first introdution to HPDE and you can see that you guys cost me a lot of money.:D I had an 07GT and my son had a 944, now I run a Trak Pak and my son has a Cobra.

Tony, any hints on the mystery vehicles that are registered. I guess yours is a Ford but I know Mr Watts who also has a Mystery vehicle does a lot of testing for the bowtie guys. You stirred my curiosity!

Why 5 run groups? You can put 50+ cars on the full course with no problems if everyone plays nice. That is a lot of cars! Would rather get 4 sessions per day.

The weekend following the VIR weekend is the Ford Nationals at Carlisle, PA. Today is the last day to get a discount on the infield tickets. It is the 50th anniversary for Shelby American and a reunion is planned. This should be a great event.

Tony,
MMR built my new motor too tight for track and I burned up the pistons & rings in one session at Road Atlanta. Back to MMR again, at least they are honoring the warranty. Net is that Jeff and I will be hot-seating his BMW, this time hopefully won't blow the head gasket again (ugh :doubt:)
Question - you said 5 run groups but as I understand it 3 classes: green orange and red. Can we both sign up for orange and make sure we get in different run groups? Wish I had my Cobra or I'd run in Red but the Bimmer is underpowered, and don't want to spend the whole weekend pointing by:cool:

Todd,

We will be running 4 run groups as stated above. You should be able to run one in the orange group and one in the blue group as the run group sequence will be as follows:

White
Blue
Green
Orange

This gives your car 30 minute breaks after each run session, thanks.

Novice track-goers can enjoy the fun with an assigned instructor who will teach you the ins and outs of the track and how to properly handle your car!
We have very special guests from Ford who will be on hand throughout the weekend to mingle with participants. Best of all, they are bringing some of the most exciting SVT vehicles you'll see anywhere! You could even catch a ride in a 2013 GT500 or 2013 Focus ST!

Snoop,

There is no spectator fee, we had to take that out this year due to track fee changes. Everyone has to be a "participant" so here is how it works, if they bring a car into the track, they are a participant and have to pay the show fee of $50.00 at minimum; however, they can have a carload of people with them when they come in so as many as they can fit in their vehicle or....if they are riding in with you as your guest (not bringing their own vehicle in to the complex) then they do not have to pay anything.

The $50.00 fee includes one event poster, one event tee, one car show entry, and lunchtime parade laps. No spectator fees!! While supplies last...

They can come in and not pay if you bring them in to the track. We have to share the spectator fee with the track that's why everyone has to be a participant. Sorry, it has to be that way...and not only that, then whoever comes in will want to do parade laps and so why not just pay to get in and save the organizers the headache of keeping up with it?

Ford Racing (rides): Boss 302 street version and Boss 302S
SVT (rides): 2013 GT500, 2013 Focus ST
Ford (display only): 1993 Cobra R, 2002 Lightning Bolt Ranger, (and I think a Ford GT)

FYI - The drivers will be leaving Sunday, so don’t count on there being rides all day. Hopefully they will be around for the morning, but their travel schedules vary and they aren’t sure exactly when they are leaving.

It would help if he registered on line so I can get him lined up for Saturday. Signing up for Hyperdrives on Saturday puts undue stress on me to get him lined up when we have a car show going on. Ask him to sign up online prior to coming to the event so I will know who is doing what. This will probably be the only time I take the Shelby out on track. I do like those 2010 wheels though, they look right at home on my 09. They are 18 inch wheels with a 9.5 inch width and are basically made for my car. What an awesome 3 days. Thank you Tony, Ford, Ford Racing, SVTOA and all of the vendors and especially Dean. The staff at VIR were wondeful. Michelle and I both had a great time, meeting new friends, the personnel from Ford, and of course the drives on the track. Thank you Tony, Dean and Pat, you made this one of those experiences that I will never forget. I can't wait till the next one. The dinner banquet, the stories are also one of those memories for years to come. All I can say is if you haven't been to VIR, you have to go!

Nice seeing you there Steve.

I'm the guy in the white EcoBoost F150 that your wife wanted Saturday night.

The truck your wife wanted, not me. ;)

Anyone have a link to the site for the photographer? I would like to check out the pics.

Thanks for a great event, once again, Tony. I had a great time and it was good catching up with some of the folks that I only run into at this event.

Tony,

Great event. I could run with traffic or run clean laps at will -- can't ask for more at any track event. Great to have so many fast drivers in the advanced group. Burned up an entire set of brake pads, 40 gals of gas, and had a great time. The support you guys get from the Ford factory was impressive!

See you in August at Summit Point!

Great weekend at VIR with SCMC and Track Club USA. Things I am thankful for.....
1. I am thankful for how hard everyone worked to make this a great event. Tony and the organizer's time is not unnoticed. The VIR staff is incredably gracious and helpful.
2. I am thankful for Ford who makes the best car ever in the Mustang! Then they pour time money and manpower into the event we love to make... it special. Show cars are incredible and rides in
great cars (2013 GT500, Boss 302s, and Focus ST) on track with awesome drivers, what support more could we ask for.
3. I am thankful for Toyota who makes cars for people who know nothing of what it means to love a car. They will never get a thumbs up on the road, never get 5 mpg on the track, and never enjoy 30 minutes as hard as they can go at VIR!
4. I am thankful for Chevy that they make the Corvette, if they only made the Camaro, they would have absolutely no business at VIR! That ZR1 was wicked fast! Not so much the Camaros.
5. I am thankful for friends to go to the track with. Great time on track following, leading, learning.
6. I am thankful for new friends with great cars that I hope to have many more track days with. (Thanks for not making fun of my wing.) Porshe guys are even cool at this event!
7. I am thankful for Buddy who allowed me to use his Toyo RA1's for 3 sessions. Another puff on the "track pipe"
8. I am thankful for Jack Roush and his dedicated engineers who made the Trak Pak just for me!
9. I am thankful for a wife and 2 sons who were, pit crew and video team for three days while Dad played--I owe you!
10. Finally, thankful to the Lord for 3 days of perfect weather and no serious injuries that I heard of!

No offense to the Chevy or Toyota guys, just having fun!

The weather, track and comradery was excellent and a lot of FUN. I managed to achieve a new personal best on the Full Course circuit with my daily driver - 2009 Mustang GT.

It's only a naturally aspirated 4.6L (283 ci).... Here's one of my laps - 1st session of the 3rd day a 2:18.

Chasing a C6 Grand Sport (Instructor) around the course for a couple of laps. Demonstrating the superior handling of the Mustang in the turns and esses. lol

I had an awesome time once I was there and unloaded. Thanks again, Tony. The people around me were great. I must of looked like hell by Friday night. I had twisted my knee unloading my truck and needed some sleep in a bad way and people were asking me if I was ok. I really appreciated that. So thanks guys. I had the best instructor ( Norbert Watts ). I was feeling good about myself until you guys started posting lap times. My best was a 2:35.3 but that was in a 95 Cobra with no engine mods and street tires. It does show me I have a lot of work to do. What a great event!!

What a great weekend at VIR we appreciated everyone who stopped by our Capital Ford tent/trailer. Sid and I talked to a lot of good people. Looking forward to future events.
On a personal note; my track experience was awesome for my first time on VIR in a car. Thanks to Mike for giving me his track knowledge. I ready for another track session.
