I just ordered my Bilstein struts/shocks for the cobra today from of all places, Bimmerparts.com! They had the lowest price I could find after 3+ hours of searching the net.

V36-4138-H1 fronts
BE5-6418-H0 rears

all for $465.60 + 12.00 ups ground shipping

Anyone have the bilstein setups here? I see most people running Tokico's or coilovers....Just wanted to hear some impressions of the Bilsteins if you have them! I can't wait to get them and get rid of my sloppy worn out stockers. Thanks

Yep, I have them. Put them on my 01 along with H&R springs. Made a huge improvment in the handling of the car. You will be very satisfied.

Yeah, they pretty much rock. I don't run them, but "everyone else" seems to. Nice choice.

Well it turns out the rears have been on back order from Germany for 6 months, nobody has been able to get them. I'll get the struts in about 10 days, but the rears wont be until late June...I guess I have to wait a bit:bounce:

I installed them on my 98 Cobra. I noticed a big improvement in the ride quality in normal driving and they handle much better.

The BE5-6418-H0 rears are actually a twin-tube design. Since they're on backorder as well, you might consider the monotube, digressive-valved, short track shocks, especially if you're going to firmer springs.

They have hiem joints at both ends, but if you removed the top, and used some spacers on the bottom, they should swap right in. They're also machined & come with a snap ring, for easy coil-over conversion.

Check them out at:

http://www.stockcarproducts.com/bshocks.htm

I got mine from www.colemanracing.com , and got their shrink fit coil-over sleaves as well (had to have a machinist press them on though).

The Bilstein motorsport tech recommended the S7Z7030 (industry standard valving of 7-rebound, 3-compression) for 175# coil-overs.

The 5/3 valving would probably suffice for stock-like spring rates (200# conventional springs only have around a 100# wheel rate).
The larger monotube piston will move more fluid, and open the high-speed valve quicker, providing a smoother ride (while still having lot's of low-speed control for weight transfer).

I think the BE5's are around a 5/1.5, and are supposedly good for a 30% spring rate increase.

I love to drive !!

Hey -

one of my first words was

"car car" .......

  :bounce: :bounce:

I've had the bug for years and years -
I've just never really been able to get my nerve up at the track ...

I chickened out a few times.

Last year though, at Gingerman in October

(the rain/slow/cold day )

I drove my SVT Contour and had an excellant instructor .....

that really made a difference for me... I have a bit more confidence in myself now.

It sure is better driving a Cobra on the track though !!

:bounce: :bounce:

I finally received my bilsteins and installed them today. WOW what a difference. My friend has the bullitt tokicos, and there is a big difference between those and the bilsteins. The car is firm but so smooth at the same time. I am very impressed with them!! Highly recommended!
