Do you know why Todd? That does bite. Maybe the SCMC can fill that slot. :D :D

Yeap, I was there that weekend and it was very weird. I felt like a student in the "bad class" when Ron yelled at us in the classroom sessions. EVERY SESSION!!!
Anyway, I WAS NOT ONE OF THE ONES THAT WENT OFF!!! :D

Wait a minute, I'm a Shugglet groupie now?
Weird doesn't come close to describing that event - even bleeding my brakes became an adventure (cough*nana*cough). Tom, what group were you in? I must say that the instructor group wasn't bad IIRC however, Beginner was rough, Intermediate was scary and Advanced became a lesson in cross-track missile avoidance (and I was such a slut I went out with every group I could - shame, shame :-D - ok, not the beginners)
Nah, won't get to shoot the sh*t with ya at Summit, I have a race at LMS that weekend or I'd crew for Shuggles. I think we all race on the same weekend at CMP August 3/4 right? If so, see you there and cover your ears (you guys might have the bass but I bring the brass section ;)).
Peace!

You know, I wake up in a cold sweat when I have nightmares about your brakes!! Damn weird Porsche bleeding process... :D
I was in intermediate on Saturday and Advanced on Sunday. I lost an entire session on Sunday when the FFR Cobra hit the tires in the flat esses. That was the session I was doing a lead-follow with Shugg and I think we had green for about 3 turns.

I totally remember that session - Karl and I had JUST started to play and 2nd lap out, black flag. Fark!

That was also the weekend the Viper got trashed. It was wierd. I felt like I was in elementary school with him screaming at us on sunday. There were a bunch of offs in beginner but I think he said Advanced was the worst. I remember a black vette in my group spinning up the uphill esses.

I ONLY GOT 6 LAPS IN ALL WEEKEND !!!! I was still having oiling problems at the time. Allthough I did get the 3rd grader treatment at the drivers meeting on sunday!!!:moon:
That's cool Adam GOOD LUCK!
That has to be the MOST ANOYING SOUND ON THE PLANET!!!! I don't know what it is about it but man it makes my toe nails curl!! :fart: I guess I'm just an ole V8 junkie !!!! Rosen was on my tape from last year at Summit in the sentra (I guess), and the guys at work said" What the hell is that making all that racket! That thing isn't suposed to sound like that is it ? Admittedly its a cantakerous (sp) sound but I don't have a thing on a 12A/13B RX-7 - now THAT is rough. I gridded next to one Monday and my co-driver had to walk away when the guy started his car - I could barely stand it and I had a helmet on. Where's Chris when you wanna pick on an RX-7 guy :-)
Yeah, Eric's car and mine are pretty much that same pitch - I am currently hitting 102 dB everywhere I go so I don't have much room for any more *noise*.
Peace

How did I miss this thread going on?
Yeah, I thought my car was loud dB wise. That is, until I heard Adam's car OVER my car in an on-board cam. Damn fart tipped exhaust. :fart:
That was the weekend that I found out the Tom was running 2:18's at VIR full and nearly fell over. That was also the weekend I thought Hoover was trying to Barbeque his lunch while out on track. With all that smoke, that HAD to be it!!!

Whoa! Someone snuck an exhaust on my car? Need to put some Mad Max boobie traps on the thing to keep that from happening again ;-)
If you can believe this Shugg, the LR at VIR Full for an ITA car is in the 19s. Who knows, maybe next year we can get my car down a few more seconds - shortened race shocks, the race motor and a tailwind and a lot of luck (hey I can dream right?). What are you guys thinking are going to be some fast Toyo times up there?

Stupid question time... what's an ITA car?
Phat-S
05-30-2002, 12:34 PM
ITA car would be like mine (Improved Touring "A"). Like:
Honda CRX Si (88-91)
Honda Civic Si (89-91)
Mazda Miata (90-93)
Nissan 240sx (89-90?)
Mazda RX-7 (78-85)
Mazda RX-3/4 (72-78)
Typically around 1.6 to 1.8 L displacement (the 240 is maybe obviously a 2.4 - usually a larger displacement carries more weight). We're not the real real fast guys (ITE - catch-all class) or the real fast guys (ITS - 2nd gen RX-7s, BMW 3 series, 944s).
Prep rules for IT are kinda limited. Overbore limited to .40 (my current motor has a stock bottom end with Sunbelt head - great builders from everything I've heard, my spare is .20 over - that's the faster one of mine afaik but I've never run it), no cams, not sure if you can lighten flywheel, must run dash, must meet minimum weight (mine is 2140 lbs), must retain lights/wipers/wiper bottle/rear wiper (if it came with it)/roll cage cannot go through firewall/stuff like that. From what I was told, I am putting down a stump pulling 108 WHP - the .40 motors on my car I think can be in the 120-130 WHP range - thats just from my understanding).

Well, here's what I'm thinking. 2:18.xx with a crappy diff and heavy car. If the diff was worth 2+ seconds at CMP, I'm thinking the same at VIR. That would mean around 2:15-2:16. That's pretty realistic I think. I'm sure others will probably go even faster than that (Banana already hit 2:15's, but that was with Hoosiers... but that was only his 7th or 8th track event... so who knows...)

The weight change on mine is what got me from 2:18 to 2:15. And maybe a little experience, but most came from the weight loss.
I'm real curious to see what the 3.73's do for me at that track. Is there any VIR Full course events coming up soon?
And Adam, thanks for the info! I always see those letters used, but never knew the deal...

Damn dude what are you running now? I don't understand everybodys fasination with low gears:confused: I 'm not telling anybody what gears I'm running. I just don't see an advantage in the LOW gear deal? You can't get that much traction out of the turns to use the lower gear pull, plus you run out of top end too fast! You also have shorter pull between gears too. I could see it if you were running a 6 speed , but I have heard real bad things about trying to race the 6 speed.
Adam? So you guys aren't going to be at Summit? (Honda Chalenge)
Cooking my lunch HUH!!! I'll remember that !!!!!!

You gotta keep in mind that the 4v 4.6 is WEAK below 3500K. All my power is at 4k - 7k. I had the 4.10 gears and they worked great, but that maxed me out at 128 in 4th. With the 3.73's I max much higher speed at 14? while still keeping some power out of the turns. I'm still at stock power, which ain't too bad, but like I said, it needs 3.73+ to get out of the slow rpm range.
Now, if I had some bottom end grunt, then yeah, the stock 3.27 would do fine.
I wouldn't want a 6-speed either, but I would like to have the 1-5 part of it. My 5th gear right now is pretty much useless. It just won't pull with the .64(?) gear in it.

You guys trip me out. 14x MPH. Shoot, my 4.73 allows me to redline 5th at 130 MPH. I won't know what to do over 125 at Lowes :-) You guys have video of what a track looks like at that speed?

My stock 3.27's put me at over 140 in 4th at VIR full track, straight after Oak Tree. Ran over 130 a couple weeks ago on South course straight.
No inkling to change gearing for me.

My first time (out of touring group) at Road Atlanta, I was hitting the rev-limitter at 128 in 4th with 4.10's. The last time out, I was hitting high 130's and never saw the rev-limitter with the 3.73's.
I'm going back to Road Atlanta this Sunday, so I'll try and get some in-car video at 140+.
Dave, I don't have a SC, so 3.27's would slow me down bad! And, you would be amazed what a set of 3.73's would do for your car coming out of the corners.

You'll be cured soon enough Tom. The whole HPDE-slut mentality went bye-bye for me after my first race weekend. Now I have thoughts like "hmmm, I can make it through the race if I do 4 practice laps and no more than 6 qualifying laps." Open track fun is awesome but it seems like using tires and brakes I can ill afford right now.
Priorities got all whacked :D
I've done half the miles at twice the cost and had 10 times the adrenaline rush since January as compared to last year this time. And no, that isn't a complaint :)

I'm actually hoping that will happen after the first race. I have a feeling that passing with a signal won't be much fun after I pass Shugg and everybody without a signal. :bounce: :bounce:

You know, passing after the checkered flag really isn't a good idea. Remember, you're gonna have to do a lot more than wax your Banana to pass me. :321:
