It's almost time. Who is going to be there?

We will be there instead of Lowes for the AI race but that's life. If anyone is going to be there let me know as we have a group of roughly 20 people that we share pits/food/lodging/crewing with. It makes life easier ot have lunch cooking when you are rolling back into the pits after a session, it also reduces the food costs.

If anyone is interested on getting together, we will be there on Wednesday night and staying at the Osthoff and will be kicking back at the bar. We will be getting to the track early Thurs. afternoon to get through tech and set up camp in a good location in the paddock.

drop me a line on this thread or at btone@ford.com

Have a good time at RA everyone!! I'm sorta jealous, though very excited for Lowes too.

Ragan - have a blast my brutha...

Tone - we'll see you at VIR.

PS. I got some goodies for the car this past Friday. Don't think I can get it all installed before Lowes though...

There is going to be quite a few of us there. It would be great if we all could get together in the paddock. I will email you my cell number, hopefully I will be there by 2pm or so on thursday. I should be bringing the #23 95 R assuming I get it put back together in time so please come over and say hi.

good god almighty! take the car to get the last minute oil change ect on the car and find the tranny was leaking at the rear seal. then, find out you damn near have to drop the rear diff to change the fluid out, so i opted out on that one.
good news is, all the little vibrations are gone, car shifts so much smoother (thanks to mobil one) and with the alignment set it just feels a ton better. i hadn't had time until today to check all that mess, better late than never, just glad it wasn't worse than that!

I apologize for not being around much this weekend to say hello and socializing. I hope everyone had a good time. We did until we broke the car. Oh well it happens. I was looking forward to giving rides on sunday but it was not to be.

For the record I can honestly say that Kevin's spin in T14 was not due to driver error rather the fact that there was a healthy amount of fluid on the track. As I came by him I nearly lost it in the same spot on the same fluid.

So it's the red or white paint that does it! I should have known it would be colors that Mystic doesn't do. :doubt:

You don't suppose the 5.4 or 5.8 engines have anything to do with it do you?

Hey Tom, I'm just a spin intern, only halfway around. No damage, just scared the pee out of me, going 60 MPH backwards toward a solid concrete wall. Stopped in time for a good lecture from the instructor, then he says "Let's get back on there and have some more fun".

LMS is awesome, running the NASCAR oval, then ducking down into the infield track.

By the way, I just signed up, sent the money, made the reservation for Mid-America in October.

My car is OK again!

I did not put together a single flying lap without a mistake on saturday. I ran 3 laps with my lowest being a 2:40.00 The day before on old hoosiers I was running a flying lap of 2:33.xx that told me that I should have been able to put the car in the 2:36 range from a standing start. Oh well maybe next year.

We ended up shearing a bolt on the torque arm resulting in massive wheel hop under braking into canada corner. Note: that is not a good time to encounter wheel hop, trying to brake from 155 to 3rd gear. We fixed the torque arm on saturday morning before the warmups and things were okay suspension wise but the damage to the trans had already been done. The result of that was a grinding while shifting into 4th gear, caused by the syncro/gear being damaged by the pounding it took from the driveshaft. With that damage being already done it was only a matter of time until it failed. It lasted most of the day on Saturday until the 13th lap then coming out of canada up to the bridge it failed and ended the weekend.

I am working on a tranny for the rest of the AI season, but we'll see what happens.

I hope to see some of you at VIR in a few weeks.

Dang man! Tough luck. Hope everything goes back together for the rest of AI. Which bolt on the TA sheared? I need to keep this in mind...

09-11-2002, 08:01 AM
One of the two bolts that run vertically through the ears where the dampner used to be. As far as I can tell it was a fatigue failure from being stretched under braking over and over. The bolts are not very large in diameter due to the mounting constraints. I suggest swapping them out every year or so under heavy track usage.

It also bent the back mounting plate to the diff cover, that is after the vertical sheared.

I learn something new every time something else brakes.

I figured the front bolt would go before either of those two. Not surprised the rear plate bent though. Mine came bent and I bent it into the right shape by hand.

I'll add that to my maintenance items for yearly replacement! Thanks.
