Well, its been going on for a while now, it doesnt happen very often, but enough to annoy me. It doesnt sputter or anything, it just dies. I lose all power everything, power steering, brakes, etc. My father told me that back "in the old days" :D that when that would happen it generally was the starter solenoid, he said it happened to him a couple of times in his 66 and that turned out to be the problem. So my questions are these:
1.) Could it be something else?
2.) If I do have to get a new starter, is there an aftermarket one available? You know, like the "mini starters" for the 5.0's?

Thanks:thumbsup:

Jose,

I agree with the guys on the mailing list, it is not the solenoid. It could be your IAC valve, your idle adjustment sensor, or something else. I doubt very seriously it is the solenoid??:(

I'll have to check the IAC valve this weekend sometime, if I can find time as I'm hopefully going to be changing the halfshafts to RAxle's and putting the 2KR springs in as well. But I hope it turns out to be nothing serious, but man I tell you, it gets scary sometimes when I'm slowing down to stop and all of a sudden I have to basically mash the brake peddle since its not stopping, you know? Thanks, let me know if you think of anything else:(

Jose

Maybe a trip to autozone for a scan would be in order and they can tell you? They don't charge you a penny to do it. I'm not sure if that would help or not??

May have to do that, a bad o2 sensor should be causing this though right? I only ask because I know I have one thats bad, last time I went to AUtoZone to scan for codes, thats the one that came up and I havent gotten around to changing it just yet, I know I'm bad for that :)

Does it die when you push the clutch in, or is it dying in gear while decelerating? My car was doing it when I would put the clutch in decelerating to a stop, and it was the idle air control valve, I replaced it and it hasn't done it since.

Thats exactly when it happens, sorta, I put it in neutral and start stepping on the brakes, and then thats when it happens. Always when slowing to a stop. So that saved me a lot of time!! Now I just gotta go to Autozone and see if they have one for me. How much do those cost anyway? Thanks for all the help guys!

On edit:
Took off the IAC and checked it out. IT IS FILTHY! So I'm going to clean it up and then re-install it. Hopefully that fixes the problem! Thanks again to everybody that gave me some ideas!
