Ok, I went to Jackson Saturday night to get some baseline numbers for the car with drag radials on it. It was drizzly and racing was held up till 8:30 waiting for it to stop. Humidity was 100%, temp was 69-70 degrees, no wind at all.

Two weeks ago at Silver dollar the car ran a 13.47 @ 105.x on street tires with a 2.11 60' and a 200 RPM short shift on the 2-3 shift. (I have GOT to get me a shift light!) This was the first time I had run drag radials, so I just heated them with a 5 second burnout and staged quickly. Launched at 3500 RPM and got a 2.006 60', but ran a 13.72 @ 102.x on what I thought was a decent pass. e.g. shift points hit, felt good, etc. My only other pass (it was busy as heck) was a washout due to hitting the fuel cutoff on the 2-3 shift.

Now, I KNOW humidity = low e.t., but with a .1 difference in 60', and with everyone telling me they pick up .3-.6 with drag radials, is it possible for the air to make THAT much of a difference? A couple of tenths I can see... 4 tenths and over I have a hard time with. The only work done to the car was a change of oil and tightening up some loose exhaust bolts so the exhaust system wasn't leaking.

Any ideas?

Wanna borrow my Vortech?? :D :D :D Sorry Ken, i just don't know what to tell ya. I wouldn't think humidity would make you almost a half second slower, but i'm no pro either.

Humidity can make a difference. My 1/8 mile times can change 2-3 tenths in a night. That is in my '95 Bolt. Keep practicing and have a ball.

Well, I talked with a couple of guys today who race the mod motors, and they said that they are pretty picky about their air. While they said it sounded like a lot, they suggested I go back this weekend under different conditions and see if it is all better. If it is, then my Cobra is just really touchy about it's air. Sooo, back to the track Friday night. Weather forecast is clear with highs in the high 50's, low 60's, so there shouldn't be a question about the air! ;) Hopefully it will answer all questions before the drag day event!

I appreciate the offer of the blower, but my engine probably couldn't handle the load! ;) I'll wait until I get ready to add my power adder of choice...a turbo.

I saw almost 2 years ago, and advertisement on sean hylands website showing an INCON Twin Turbo Kit....... supposed to be released the summer of '02.... never another word about it though. I also couldn't find anyone that made any kind of turbo kit for the cobras either. Turbo's definately rock!!

2-3 tenths in the eighth??? Man, I guess I have nothing to gripe about then! ;) I just didn't expect that much of a difference between 80% and 100% humidity.

There is a whole website dedicated to turbo Stangs.

Incon went out of business. I talked with the guy back in '99 about putting a kit in my GT. There was a guy here in Atlanta that installed it, but IIRC had nothing but trouble with it.

Then it wouldn't be a Cobra anymore! ;) Or at least an '01 Cobra!

might have something to do with typing for a living... :)

Nah, it ain't quick now. It ain't bad for a few bolt ons, but quick it ain't. If I wanted an all out drag car, I would start with something WAY lighter than an '01 Cobra!

A car that threatenes 12's in full street trim is definately a quick car. There isn't much out there that'll pull on ya.

Well, my best so far "in full street trim" (stock tires, spare, jack, 1/2 tank of gas, all cd's, .357 magnum, etc.) is 13.39 @ 105.xx. That is a far cry from threatening 12's! ;)

With the Nitto's, your car will be fully streetable, and if they do as well as we've both been hearing....... then into the 12's you may go.
