To everyone who was there, thanks for a great weekend! Special thanks to Brian and Dean for making it happen, and Annette for tirelessly working the grid. As always, SCMC are the best, with everyone helping and enjoying each other's company on and off the track.

To those who weren't there: You should have been! MAM is a fantastic facility, if you don't count the gravel road to get there  Everyone working at the track seemed dedicated to safety and fun. What a great track, with plenty of room to go off without hitting anything (ask me how I know  ) The track is flat with a challenging layout, and you can see the entire course from the grandstands.

I'll let those with pictures tell a more detailed story, I just wanted to get things started.

Absolutely! I just hope they pave the road to the track by then. I will definitley plan on another trip to MAM in the future.

Besides, I think I still have some mud I need to return. :rotf:

Has anyone given any thought to Blackhawk Farms?

Wow, what a weekend! I got home at 2:30am this morning with all intentions of getting up and going to work. Guess what, I didn't quite make it. :zz:

I want to thank Brian for working so hard on this event and being my person instructor;) . Kevin for working Tech, instructing and providing a great little compound to work at. Liz and Lew for saving some of us cold and damp souls warm up in their motorhome. I want to especially thank Tony for allowing Brian and I to put on this event out in the middle of nowhere. It's always a gamble doing something like this and he trusted us in going forward with it.

I can't thank everyone that came and had a great time. It's great to get together with old friends and also to make new ones.So many people drove hours and hours and thousand of miles to get to this event and I bet there's not one of them that do not think that it was worth it. I sure wish we could convince more people to join us in a weekend that they would never forget.

I have a few pictures to share with everyone.

Here is our group car photo.

Track Guys would like to thank the Brian Groth and Dean Smeltzer for having the faith in us and our Track Guys instructors to come out and help you "learn to turn" and have some fun too. We'd also like to thank all the SCMC members who made the trek to SW Iowa - you guys and gals were wonderful students and great group of enthusiasts to work with!

And to those of you that showed an interest in doing a little "agricultural" driving over the course of the weekend...consider the mud your little slice/slab/glob of Iowa "heaven"!

Thanks again for having Track Guys and our instructors as part of your National event and we look forward to workin' with y'all in the future!

Sincerely,

Jeff Lacina & Todd Zikas

i'd grumble and gripe about missing it, but i've enjoyed the new baby. glad you guys had a good time, and michelle and i are already planning on making the next one.

i checked the camera a couple of times this weekend to see if i could see anyone, but the shots came as everyone on track was in the turn, so it made the cars very very small. i did however save a shot of a wrecker on track, and it seems that particular individual was fairly busy. can't wait for more pics!...

Thanks to everyone who made this weekend happen! I had a great time and will go back to the track WHEN the entrance road is PAVED!! Special thanks to Brian and Dean for putting the event together and having it run so smoothly! :D Even a few problems with my car didn't really hamper the weekend. ALTHOUGH I would suggest a DIFFERENT time of year to go back!! I DON'T LIKE COLD WEATHER! ;) ;) Saturday turned out to be a perfect day for tracking butt SUNDAY! YUK! ;)

I would also like to offer a personal thanks to Jeff for showing me the turns around the track and being an extra set of eyes on my guages!! ;) ;) The car's going to the shop next week for a tune.... and maybe a few more mods!! ;) ;) :D

I made it home to Raleigh without a problem, at 11:30 Monday night. Just missed having a problem on the east (downhill) side of Asheville. Going down the mountain, I passed an Alero who was traveling just a little slower than me. Less than a minute later, the blue lights appeared in the rear view mirror, onl;y to pull over the car I just passed. I bet he's pissed.

Great weekend......agree with Big Daddy, pave the road (the mud lady said that's scheduled for next summer) and schedule in warmer weather. Wonderful, challenging track. Gotta have a gear change, though, to be able to pull better off the corners.

Thanks to all who made the event another great one.
Now I've only got 4 more states I haven't visited......Alaska, North Dakota, Oregon and Alabama.

It was a great time and I have over 80 pictures along with a video to get up on the site. Give me a couple of days to get it all ironed out.

Dean and Brian...... you did a superb job! I am so proud of you guys. I wish everyone in the club could have been there because then they could see the SCMC at its best.

Special thanks to Annette Smeltzer who handled everything like a champ and is a true SCMCer. Thanks Annette, I am so glad you came!

I want to thank Dennis McCrary for letting me drive his 2003 Cobra on the track. I had such a good time reaching speeds over 127 mph on the straight aways and I also reached 122 in my car.

I'd like to thank Kevin for the ride in the 2000 R and Ted Schwartz for the ride in his 1996 Mystic. It was a blast!

I would also like to thank Bill Pemberton, he offered me the best advice and helped me to run the track quicker and safer. Thanks Bill! Keep in touch.

Thanks to Jeff Lacina and the rest of the Track Guys crew. You did an outstanding job in the classroom and on the track. SCMC is second to none when it comes to having a good time with great instruction.

For anyone I missed.... thanks for the great weekend!

Thomas I now have 4 events under my belt, at 4 very different tracks....It takes me a good day or so to learn the track, and then the 2nd day I work on speed....too bad we got rained out sunday....I also want to get the cage and harnesses in before I push it harder, just so I can 'feel' safe out there....

I guess I really don't have a question. That was the same post you had put on the AutoX forum a few weeks back to a post I made, but I never heard the question...

Anyway, I do have a comment:

I have a new outlook now that I am no longer a member of this club. Comments like that one make me feel unwelcome and I would assume other non-members feel the same way. I'm not trying to stir things up, just wanted to state my observation.

If you want to talk negatively about non-members, then I feel it should be done in the Members Only forum. If you want to drum up membership, then do it in the public areas.

BTW, I'm not taking any of this personally because I think I've given lots of pictures and web content in the past. I just don't think it is a very nice portrayal of the club to make "legal" comments like that.

cobrabitn
10-30-2002, 07:16 PM
I think you are taking it personally but this was not directed at you. It was directed at someone who used our Gingerman video without permission.

I don't think there was anything negatively said there about anyone whether they are a member or not. It's just a common courtesy to just ask. We asked for the dragon content and got permission. Whenever we use other stuff and cannot get in touch with the author then we give them credit.

The only time we didn't was when I played a joke on you about your tractor pull but then I thought you could take a funny, guess I was wrong?

As for the AutoX question......I felt no one wanted me to ask and that I didn't belong in that forum, so I didn't ask. I hope that clears it up for you. If I offended you then I apologize for that. Member or not, you are welcome to hang with us as always. ;)

I guess you're talking about the '03 cobra video at the end of that awesome video somebody put together for the Lightning. I didn't realize that was SCMC property. A lot of people got video of that car while we were there. You should be proud of that and not worry about somebody not giving the SCMC credit for it.

I actually had a few people e-mail me about that asking if I was pissed. They actually thought I would be. And some thought I should be. Ask anyone in the CLC here and they'll tell you that I didn't like the first few pages, but the last page more than made up for it with the compliments. I'm still trying to figure out what members I brought to this club. Even though I have tried, I don't deserve that credit. Anyway, bottom line was that I rather liked that little short story. I thought it was cool. The part about Road Atlanta and the wall was a little harsh, but I knew it was meant in fun.

So, what was it you were going to ask? You're welcome to that forum just like anybody else. We let slow people post there just like the fast ones...:D

Tom,

I was going to ask about AI and what advantages does it have to be a member. However, I got my questions answered on my way to Iowa. It's not something I want to be a part of at the present moment.

As for the write-up. Usually, if I pick on you (which is what I was doing to you) then that's my way of saying I like that person a lot. If I didn't like you, do you think I'd ever publish something like that? You should know me better then that. Remember what fun we had in Nashville at dinner that night on the way to Gingerman? How about when we were talking on the two ways and on the CB at the same time and the way I was messing with the truckers? Wasn't that funny?

How about the drag race at Carolina Dragway where I ran you down and took the lead? (I'll never let you forget that one) ;) All too many times people want to concentrate on the negative but they fail to realize what the SCMC is all about. You could have gotten a refresher course had you gone to Mid America with us. We had the best time and if you don't believe me then why is this thread so long?

I'm glad to see you're in better spirits. It's always easy to criticize what isn't right, but I bet those are the same people that don't get involved and help out when they are needed? Never have I received a "I'd like to be more involved" on anyone's survey from that area except John Poe. And we'll be using him in the near future!

Here take a look.......
