I was in the red 67 mustang. I was sitting beside you in the staging lane one time. I new I had seen that car before.
Can't miss an event at Carolina Dragway. We found the problem with the lethal Z. The nitrous plate called for 5# of fuel pressure and we were running 7#. It was bogging the engine.
BTW, what kind of 1/4 mile times are the 03 snakes getting?

Is your car bright red now? I thought it was a maroon color the last time I saw it, i have not seen it in a year or so. But I remember the 'old' mustang and the guys looking at my car alot while in staging....too bad I did not pay attention and watch more racing that day...

Dave,
The 03's are running high 11's or low 12's. Depending on the modifications completed on them. ;)

And don't forget how good/bad the driver is! I pulled off some killer 14's, 13's and the best of a 13.0 in November:rotf: ! Lack of experience and general track operating knowledge hurt me greatly. I hope to do much better this time:D !

WELL, it ran 7.8s@89 with 1.75 60s. I dont know if the track was hooking or not, I didnt think so and I was having some high RPM issues.
I have figured the RPM issue out, now it is time to tune the car, still running stock Timing and Fuel Tables so there is more in it.
But it was a good day, drove up there, raced, and drove back, cant ask much more than that out of my TH350'd street car that did manage around 14MPG on that trip running 60-80MPH on I-85.

The track was defenitly not hooking. They need to scrape some of the rubber off of the starting line. Thats a good time for a car thats driven to and from the track. Let me know if your coming back up anytime soon. I'm there every sunday.:p

Glad to know there is more in the 60s!!
I will not be going back up there in my car to race, for that 2+hour trip I can go down to Carolina and KNOW the traction will not be an issue, the other excuses will be laid on me and my car, not the track.
But would go up there to watch some racing, If I go back up there I will hunt you down and speak to ya.

he's leaning more towards the new mach 1, more than a used cobra. he's looking at a fully modded 01, with extremely low miles. the guy on the miata should be picking it up sometime next week. so it's already 95% gone....LOL

whether i run the car or not is going to depend on if everything i'm trying to do for CMP is done or not. but i will be there. dad'll want to run whichever he decides on, and his buddy gary with the bullit wants to get some times on his (lightly modded).
unless i'm dead on with the tune and suspension i probably won't run, but, i will be down there... ;)

I will be at the drag day again..it's a far drive but just too much fun.
Thanks for continuing to invite us fbody guys.
No real improvements for me in the off -season other than making the car go straighter. Went from +0.5 caster to +5.1 and it feels totally different.
Funderburg, 7psi on the bottle shouldn't make that much of a diff. Have you had it on the dyno to check it out?
Shon, hope to see you there this time.
Tony, can I invite my friend Ken with his 66 Chevelle? He was there in the Fall.

Gordon,
If you are talking about Ken Jett, of course you can invite him. Please remind everyone at the GAFBA that March 1 is creeping up on us. Also, even if there is an overwhelming bunch of snakes at our open track event in March (15-16), please let them know about that one too. George of MGW will be bringing his Viper to the event. Our events are open to anyone but we are going to cut it off at 60 students.
Jeff,
Can't wait to see that yellow rocket again. That car is awesome! Poolman will probably be there with his 03 Cobra too. ;)
Come on March!

im planning on being there! got to get a lil more tuning done 1st as well as breaking the new clutch in. I am wondering, I am new to these events, so is this Dragday just for us club members or will there be ALOT of people there running too? Basically, is the track just for us that day or is it open for anyone?
cobrabitn
02-22-2003, 04:48 PM
03 Venom,
We open our event to anyone but they must pay us as we are renting the track. Basically, it will be most of us and a few others we run with. We usually only have about 45-50 cars there so you can get plenty of track time or passes down the quarter mile.
We also do a "bracket competition" where the winner can win trophies and/or cash. Hope to see you there. I'm assuming you went to the dyno day this past weekend, which 03 Cobra was yours? :D

Hi there. I havent been back to the dyno since last weekend. After leaving saturday evening, the clutch was slipping so i had to get one in. ill be back on it before next weekend to get some tuning done. I know it'll make more power than what i put down last saturday. My car was the last one that ran, The Dark Shadow Grey Coupe. My goal w/o buying Longtubes and spraying is around the 470-480 rwhp mark. i think ill get it this week. Especially after putting down 452hp/474tq on an ailing clutch. Ill keep yall posted on the numbers on and off the bottle.

Actually Tony, I'm coming back roads the entire way to the drag strip. Meeting up will be about 30-45 mins out of the way for me so I'm debating on whether or not it's worth it. I'm trying to conserve money since I'm on a tight college budget;)

Just Spoke with Tony, here are the plans for Saturday morning...
Alright, for anyone coming South on I-77 (from NC/SC), at 7:00 AM we are meeting at the "McDonalds" at exit 65, which is the Highway 9 exit in Richburg, SC. It is about 10 minutes south of Rock Hill, SC.
We WILL BE LEAVING the McDonalds at 7:15, so be there early if you want to grab some breakfast, etc.
Sounds like it is going to be a lot of fun. Weather is looking good (mid 60's and clear), so we should have some good passes.
Everyone be safe on the drive to the track. We want everyone to make it there in one piece.
See you bright and early Saturday morning!

Ideas??

They will not do that Craig. the only thing I can think of is a "spectator fee" of $10.00 to help offset the extra cost and keep the racers fee the same... We could invite vendors but then we'd have to do a car show and I don't know about doing one there in the middle of nowhere. Looks like maybe we can try Commerce and see what happens with them? Or Rockingham?

The "Rock" might be just fine. I think you said Darlington was way too expensive. I don't know if the car show thing would work. I do know that I don't mind paying $40. It's a closed and relaxed event, so to me it's not bad, but might be to others. I get to make as many passes as I'd like, and I'm sure if I headed to Darlington I'd be waiting an hour between passes.

Tony,
Is there any spectator fee's this time? I'm coming and watching as are a few of my friends. Just need to be prepared.
Also are any vendor going to be selling anything?
Thanks.

He's talking about the next event. This event will be just like the fall one. Only pay if you're gonna make passes.

Most people won't mind the $40 for the event. But the money that you lose because of increased cost (people not coming) probably won't be recovered by the $5 increase for those that do pay.
Example:
35 people pre-register at $5 extra: $175 added
5 people back out because of cost increase: $200 lost
So I think it's best to find another means of making up the cost increase. Maybe just $10 a car for the ones not racing. That way friends can split the cost for the trip if riding together.
Or possibly find more sponsorship of the event to help fund the track visit. How much is the track increase? $100? $200? I'm sure a sponsor would be willing to help out in trade for some free track time themselves and name recognition on the website, etc.

True,
I'd be willing to add that money as a sponsor, but our business has NOTHING to do with Cobra's. If it is a couple of hundred, I'd be glad to do it. Of course, some of you might have daughters that are going to the Prom, or know someone getting married. :)
I don't know if it would be appropriate though. I'm sure people would like to see more sponsors related to parts for our cars.

Thanks for the info Craig. But does anyone know if there will be vendors there? I need to know if I need to bring some cash money for parts I'm in need of.

I'm pretty sure George from MGWltd.com is coming with his new viper, but I don't know if he'll be bringing parts with him. Maybe Tony can chime in.

Tony...how much did they up the price? I LIKE Carolina Dragway, and the track and the folks there are much nicer than Commerce! It might be possible to get a Ford dealer or two to kick in some $$$ for equal billing on the event. Take what MGW pays for trophies and prizes, and ask the Ford dealers to match it to be listed as primary sponsors. That should allow the prices to stay close to the same unless they went up a LOT! :D
If you want to talk about what I have in mind, call me.

$500.00 increase Steve. One of the reasons it is higher is because it is more private. You are paying for privacy.

How much does it cost to run? I look forward to seeing a few of you that were at ATS again and meeting some new faces as well.
Tony,
As you know I am a GAFBA member and my only involvement with the SVTCMC is attending your two track days each year. What makes your event so unique is that the charge is per car racing with the spectators free. I for one would not have a problem with the cost being raised to $45.00 per car. That is still a tremendous bargin to run till you're to tired to shift and have your friends come and watch for no additional fee. At the GAFBA shoot outs at Silver Dollar Raceway there is a charge for the tech card for the car as well as an admission per person. If some of your members are really that concerned about the cost I think that an admission fee per person would be more likely to turn them off than raising the price per car.

I agree with Dave. I wouldn't mind paying extra for this event. This is one of the best tracks around.

I don't mind the price hike either.
But, I won't be attending this upcoming event :( I have been having some medical problems again and just can't seem to get them under control. If I'm lucky I might come up just to watch. Hopefully I'll make the Fall Drag day though :)

So why not ask Gwinnett Place Ford to be a sponsor and chip in $300? That would allow us to raise the price by $5 (40 cars x 5) to $40, which is still pretty reasonable in my book for all day at the track!

Why don't we just go up to $40.00 and see how it fares out? We have never had 50 people at our event but we can try it in the Fall and see how it works out. If we get more people to come then we can stay where we are with the cost.
Thanks for any additional input.
03 Venom, since you didn't preregister, the cost is $50.00 at the gate. If you preregister then it's $35.00. When you join SCMC you will be in the know every week and will benefit much greater then waiting to read it on the BB.
See you all on Saturday. It's going to be a great drag day weatherwise and I have a feeling we may have a good turn out! ;)

Edit::: Rain date is April 19th

Well, there is a 30% chance so that means 70% chance of it not raining. Everytime we do this, we panic and it turns out to be nice. We do have a rain date but I can't see us cancelling. We already have a weather thread if you want to use it but I don't think there is any need to cancel.
Dave, check the list, I got you and Ian down for going.

May 17th?! That's Bike Week at the beach. I was planning on going down there for some fun with the bikers. I may have to go all day Friday and then miss the mid saturday action for some serious drag racing! It'll give me some time to experiment with my car a bit on the traction issue. Hopefully, by then, I'll have new tires, new rear shocks, and a possible pulley/chip combo if I can lay the power to the ground. I'll try my best to make it!

It might be a little late to jump in on this, but I say add a spectator fee Per Car. We go to Jackson alot and they charge 8 bucks an adult for a spectator. I would DEFINATELY pay to see the Mustangs and Cobras. I actually went expecting to pay and was surprised it was free. I really don't think many folks would mind paying for some great entertainment. Just my 2 cents.
