If I can get the car together I'd like to make the trip this year. I can post this on the Midwest Fords site as well. I know Doug from our club was there in his 99GT last year.

I'd love to hook up with you guys. We can stay in touch and plan it out once we get a little closer.

You'll have to be patient with me though. I'll most likely pull the trailer with my Blue Bird and just stay right at the track. That thing only has a 8.3 Turbo'd 300 HP Cummins in it, so the go may be a little on the slow side. I have to wait till I hit the lottery to get my 500 HP Detroit Series 60

I'll be in touch!

Believe me, you will think differently about the drag strip. It's like comparing skiing in Michigan to skiiing in Colorado. You're just starting to have fun then it's all over. In open tracking, the fun lasts 20 minutes. :D

Dave,
I really hope you get to come. I've lived up here my entire life and I've can never remember having snow in September. It's usually the time of year that has finally cooled down a little and a lot less humidity.

Late sept is a little early for snow or sleet in that area, although not impossible. When I used to live in Kalamazoo, it would usually wait until mid October before dropping the white stuff.

Well, I just received some information that will not allow me to make the SCMC Gingerman event on September 20th!:(

My absolute best friend's daughter is getting married on that day and there is no way possible I can miss that.

I also think it would be a stretch to think that I could make the event for Sunday only. It's a bummer and I was really looking forward to seeing everyone at this event and running on this track.

I do belong to another Group, Great Lakes Sport Car Club, that will be doing an event at Gingerman with the Midwest Council of the SCCA. But that is supposed to be an Auto Cross which I don't think would be quite as much fun as an open SCMC track event.

So, hopefully I can make one of the other SCMC events around the Midwest area.

You all have fun though and be safe there!

Last I heard, nobody could confirm for me that there was going to be a track event in conjunction with the 100th. It appears that it is the week of Father's Day which means I wouldn't be able to make it because on my annual pilgrimage to the infield of M.I.S. for the Nascar Winston Cup event on the 15th of June.

Is there a track event for sure? Is it at Gingerman? What is the date?

Thanks,

The way I understand it
June 11 - 12, for the "advanced" and "experienced" drivers at GingerMan...

June 12 - 13, for the "novices" and an "introduction to performance driving" at Waterford Hills...

I havnt decided where I wanna help out with instructing, one of each or both at GingerMan...
Then bring the car to "work" the next day, and park it as a registered display vehicle for the 100th celebration (all dirty and dusty from opentracking) :D

Any of you attending the Gingerman event also like riding bicycles? There is a great State Park trail that runs from Kalamazoo to South Haven. It is called the KalHaven trail. I think it runs by pretty close to the track at the South Haven end. It is an old rail road bed that was converted into a nice trail. Very smooth hard pack cinder surface. 33 miles from South Haven to Kalamazoo and about 70 if you did it round trip. Might be fun to come a day early and ride the trail. http://www.great-trails.com/Kal-Haven.shtml

yup -- it sure does!

I'm not sure if they will be done by Flash by then....
I'd hate to get it back and then take it directly on the track....

although Tim is going to drive it with Kenny and the guys down at Indy before we bring it back......

The incident itself had allot to do with our hood -- the Cervini's hood that still does not have the ram air effect -- I was feeling uneasy about the car for quite awhile -- but I couldn't quite pinpoint exactly what it was -- Tim felt the uneasiness in the car as well -- we blamed it on not having good enough tires..... what? the more I thought about that the more I realized that was bullcrap...... sorry... but I drove that car much harder last year at Gingerman and felt good in it!!!
Those tires were good then and they are good now --- I don't care what tires we would've had on it --

We were driving a hovercraft! :jawdrop:

Ram air kit is still not available...

so

BYE BYE HOOD!! :flash:

one great big expensive mistake....... we were told that ram air kit would be ready by spring.... yeah right.... that was an accident waiting to happen -- so if anyone else has that same hood -- BE CAREFUL -- you can't go high speeds without the car becoming a "hovercraft"........

:(

If we don't have Flash ready yet we will bring Miss T and Tom's SVT Contour --

First Timer at Gingerman on Sat. the 20th. Hello, I'm Jeff (a.k.a. Lumpydog) and I'm looking forward to bringing my moderately modified '01 cobra to the track. I've only done oval tracks and never with my cobra. Bringing my friend with his Gen II Viper.

Hope to see & meet you all.

See you Saturday, Jeff.

Dean, I hate to cancel my Michigan trip, but I've got to. Can't leave the family with the mess we have here. Power is going off, on ,off. Generator is in use. Lots of limbs, leaves, trees damaged and down.

Have a great weekend.

See if someone else can use my spot at the track.

Before I report on the event itself let me just say that the SCMC "family" is alive and well. I had a serious brake problem and my ladyfriend, Cathy, even commented that "It's so cool that everybody here will do anything they can to help you." Thanks everyone for your concern and willingness to help whether or not you had the required parts. Thanks especially to Fred Fetzer for your spare rear caliper bracket, Dave Diehl for a caliper slider from your gorgeous but sadly broken Cobra R (and an offer to cannibalize as necessary!), Lew Groth for use of the "official Ford brake bleeding tool" that I forgot, Larry Bolton for help in diagnosing the NEW problem and Tim DelSanto for washers to space out the bracket that inexplicably didn't quite fit right. You guys really saved my a... ummm day!

We had SCMC members from all over the eastern half of the country, and Canada too! The weather was perfect, though a bit cold at night. By mid-morning the sun had the temps in the t-shirt range, but it never got hot. The event itself ran smooth as silk thanks to Dean's leadership, and the very friendly GingerMan staff. I saw some definite improvement in many of the drivers, and I think we have some more track-a-holics in the making. Lunches were excellent, you don't get food like this at most track events, and no one left the lunch room hungry. Even a Sunday power outage barely effected the track activities.

Thanks everybody, for a great weekend! (Oh, I almost forgot something I read... Lew Rules! ;-)

Life is too short to forget that SCMC is about the people!

GREAT EVENT!

Thanks to the SCMC and everyone that made this event run sooo smoothly. It was my first event, but It won't be my last. All the people I met were fantastic. Great Job!

p.s. I need a second job to pay for all the extra track stuff that
I saw at the track. Yes I'm HOOKED!

Great pictures Darius....

Had a great time at the event, but like Tom, I need to give my thanks to members and especially Dean also.....

On my 4th session my car developed a bad vibration. Pulled of track. Couple of us thought it sounded like a broken valve spring.

Dean was gracious enough to allow me to use his truck and trailer to get my car back home. Thanks again Dean, you are a classy guy!

Pulled the upper intake and valve covers yesterday but could find no broken springs. Looking around I discovered the crank dampner blew apart on me and had slid back to where it was rubbung on the water pump and timing cover. Believe it or not, that put me in a lot better mood than when I thought the problem was internal. :) Have some work to do on the car though.

Dave,

Sorry to hear about that but it could have been worse as you could have thrown a rod with the engine being out of balance.

Remember, the balancers are pressed on in a certain position and it is done by machine. There is a thin rubber strip in between the two pieces to absorb the vibration. I would recommend getting a new balancer rather then fixing the old one. Let us know how it turns out!

Yes...without a doubt Gingerman 2003 will be one to remeber. I enjoyed the heck out of spending time with everyone there. Even though my weekend was marred by a bit of an off track excursion with a very sudden stop. Now to put it back together.....or better yet...."make it better".

I would offer my heartfelt thanks to all of those that made sure my eyes weren't crossed and I was able to keep moving. The safety crew at Gingerman was right there...first class operation!

I appreciate everyone's concern and offers of help to put it back together....if there would have been a spare axle, brake caliper, and a portapower...we might have been able to pull it off.

I do thank each and everyone that allowed me some ride-along time....we have a bunch of very talented drivers in this group, many of whom I will never hold a candle to!

Lets do it again! (but don't mind if I do it differently this time ~lol~)

Well, I guess Tom just about said it all....it was definately a blast, perfect weather (except for the hurricane conditions in PA and OH) a great track, and as I had said to Lew and Liz, I dont know what I enjoy more, the driving, or being able to hang out with those that I have met at the events....what a great group!!!! :D

Gingerman is my favorite track, and the 1st one I had ever been on, just 15 short months ago....how time flies....I just wish it was a bit closer to home, as 765 miles each way can be pretty boring, not to mention costly....but count me in next year!!!!

Thanks again to everyone who made it happen

This was IMHO the best Gingerman event yet out of three. The weather was perfect, the food was great, and the people as always are the best around.

My heart was out to those with mechanical wows, it's no fun watching everyone else out there when all you really want to do is be running with them.

Dean, with all you have on your plate I don't know how you managed to pull off the best one yet but you did. Great job!

Darius, thanks for the pictures. They are professional looking and it looks like you got some shots of everyone.

Mike and Thomas, wish you could have had another day at least on track. Hope the new rear end works out to your liking. Maybe next year I can get on the track with you, this year didn't work out the way I'd hoped.

Dave D., if you need a hand I'm only an hour up the road. Let me know.

Thanks to all for a great experience once again.

me?

Out until midnight?

no --- not with Miss T -
I had one good run and then I parked it for the day.
Too much rubber and junk on the track .... and it was better to quit while I was ahead.
I wasn't able to drive the GT and I'm not able to "ride" with anyone -- sooooo.....

I think we just plain kept missing each other..

anyway -- here's a hug from Illinois ..... and I'm glad you liked my daughters cookies! she's alot better cook than I am.

The GT made it home safely and YES!
its like a new car -- running beautifully except we need to get the electrical stuff straightened out and get the throw out bearing repaired....

and get those 3.73 gears in ....
