Please post here if you would attend CMP in the Fall? PLease do not post if you are not 100% committed to going again. I need a serious number if you plan to go not uh, "well maybe" or "if I can do this". I want to know for sure you would attend an event there in the Fall? If we have enough people committed to going then we'll reserve it for a Fall event! Let me know.......;)

If you guys are organizing the event I'll be there for sure ! I can get a couple of z06's and vipers as well as a couple of BMW friends. I'll meet some more guys over easter, I'm heading down to Roebling with the porsche guys, to dust some german rice.

Tim,

We would need a firm committment if we are going to do this event in the Fall. In other words, we need a number of people who are serious and not just say " yeah I'll go" Send me a list and if we can get enough then we will go, if not, then we'll have to do it next Spring! :bounce:

Well, you know I'm in. I'm sure Pearson will be there, unless that's a NASA weekend. We've got a ton that wouldn't miss it, but I do understand, we've gotta get firm commitments.

Hopefully we can make this happen.

These are the dates we have open to us:

October 18-19, 2003 (conflicts with the Dragon Run)
November 1-2, 2003 (conflicts with NASA)
November 29-30, 2003 (Thanksgiving weekend)

You tell me???:doubt:

Well, the NASA weekend is out for me. The Thanksgiving weekend would be my choice, but I doubt you'd get a good turnout because of family gatherings. So, for me, that leaves October 18-19.

If we go oct 18th, how much time do we have before we have to reserve the track? Also, how much are we talking about to rent the track, ? Wanted to calculate the price per person dependent on the number of participants. How about another track like Roebling? maybe we could check their schedule to find a date that is better for everyone.

cobrabitn
04-12-2003, 12:30 PM
It runs around $12,000.00 for a weekend depending on what services we purchase. So we would need about 45 people at $270.00 to pay for it. I was hoping maybe someone would cancel from another club and we could get a better date??

cobrabitn
04-14-2003, 09:08 AM
The October date is now booked. We may get a September 28-29 date, the week after the NASA event?? All of this is contingent upon us getting 45 paid participants.

Yeah, I know I said I'd come in March too... but given the things that have happened over the past couple months I'd believe one would see my side of the story. I'm sure the car will run by then given it's so far in advance ;)

It's currently sitting again due to a welded clutch disk in the pressure plate. This is pretty bad due to the fact that it was a high performance clutch and it only has around 600 miles on it

I could have sworn I posted this but here goes.... Wouldn't it just be easier for everyone to go to Gingerman Raceway? I know it is further but you can meet up with other fellow SCMC members like Dean, Brian, Tom Gentry, Tim and Bonny, and others...

The date is SEptember 20-21, 2003. The same time frame you are wanting to go and not to mention Ken will be bringing his 2000 R there. This will also insure a successful event for the SCMC. Just a thought.....

It isn't that much further than birmingham is for me at least. And like tony said, (kinda) it would be much better to have ONE succesful event than 2 less than successful. I would vote for Gingerman. Starting from: Charlotte, NC
Arriving at: Birmingham, AL
Distance: 391.2 miles Approximate Travel Time: 7 hours 21 mins

Starting from: Charlotte, NC
Arriving at: South Haven, MI
Distance: 884.6 miles Approximate Travel Time: 13 hours 36 mins

If you leave at 6:00 am, you will be there around 7:00 pm that night, it's 6 hours difference each way. If we went to AL, we'd first have to get the track reserved, then hunt people to attend and hope to get 45 people to go when we already know we have about 25 SCMCers that are going to this event. What I like about Gingerman is......NO WALLS!..... just some sand pits. It's a very user friendly track and is not brake intensive like CMP.

I'm going to ask for the day off without pay so I can attend but cannot guarantee it. That would mean two trips to MI for me this year and that's a lot but I'll try. :doubt: Also, I have a score to settle with a stupid little Contour that goes to this event every year. :rotf:

What do you think??

Craig Last year, we drove 760 miles each way to Gingerman and had a great time, met some great people, got to see a new area, and made a vacation out of it....an overall excellent time! It really is a beautiful area! We also drove 1275 miles each way to Mid-America in Iowa, again, a long trip, but a fun track and great times with fellow SCMC'ers....and as much as we would like to go to all the events, it just isnt in the cards....not enough vacation time, plus it gets a bit expensive travelling, plus hotel expenses, etc....

Yeah, I hear it's really nice. Only problem is, we're self employed, which kills a lot of events for me. I would have to be back at 10AM Monday morning (my staff doesn't get in until after 12 noon....college kids). Let me see what I can come up with.

How about over 2700 miles round trip to Mid America last year. I enjoyed every minute of it and if I wasn't going to the Ford 100th this year, I'd be going somewhere else on a long trip. I do think one long trip per year is sufficient so make sure you make it at Lowe's Motor Speedway on Labor day weekend....

Here is what I have available.....

CMP: Weekend after Thanksgiving Nov 29th&30th

Summit Point 2.10 mile course : Nov 29th&30th

VIR: Hasn't returned call. Told them we'd prefer North or Full Course.

Road Atlanta: Waiting on Callback.

Roebling: Completely Booked.

That's what I was able to come up with. The weekend after Thanksgiving isn't a problem for me. Thanksgiving day is on the Thursday prior to the weekend. Tim? Greg? ...... Were you guys able to find out anything?

Craig

Talked to the track manager at Roebling, we are thinking about starting a z06 club to do track events, since most vette owners are interested in polishing their vettes and getting their retirement checks.

Roebling is booked every weekend, but weekdays are open, and we are considering getting some people togther to have some fun, price for the track is about $4000.

Where does your club get your insurance, and how much is it, and what are the requirements, if you can say?

BTW, was a lot of fun with the porsche guys, but some were getting pissed at the end, since the 7 z06's and 1 viper, and Samuel (in his cobra) kicked them off the track so badly.

I put up some video of the weekend, and more is to come if anyone is interested.

Update on the calls I made:

VIR: Booked solid for the next 3 years. No way at all to get the track unless we so go in "half" with "car guys", etc. or some other club. That's what the woman told me. "Repeat customers get first dibs on the track". That's what she said.

Road Atlanta: Waiting on Callback.

Samuel did a great job spanking the porsche boys. He put new wheels and tires on the 98 cobra, and was doing a great job driving that car to the limit. He really represented you guys, Roebling is a great course for the mustang with a long straight that you can hit almost 140 on before you have to get into the brakes. It is tough on tires, and I corded my race tires which have been used for 4 events now, the first 3 of which had rain days at least one day of the event.

He even passed one of the z06's in the group, and after he got signed off, he was running around, 'i'm gonna get them z06 boys' he had a ball!

I don't think I can make an event in early may, too much to do, especially since I need new tires now. If you can make it you should sign up though, the PCA group we ran with was a good group, rented a conference room at the hotel, and had parties Fri night and Sat night. Lots of free beer!

Anyway, I am shooting for my next event to be road atlanta at the end of May.
