New Clutch Help

Well, I burned out my first clutch at the dragstrip this past Wednesday night. Please help me out on quickly finding a new one. I've heard that a Spec II or Spec III is good. Anyone have this and would care to advise on it? What is the major differences between the two.

I also thought of changing the clutch quadrant and firewall adjuster while I am changing the clutch out. I've read that Granatelli Motorsports and Steeda is good. Anyone with this that could offer some assitance.

I have a week to decide and order the parts for my car. Please advise in any helpful way possible.

I put a Stage III in my SVO and it's HELLA GRIPPY! It's almost an all or nothing clutch. That being said, the pedal pressure is EXTREMELY NICE. Your 90 year old granny could push the clutch in.

I know a few guys have went with the Stage III disc and the Stage II pressure plate. I can't imagine the pedal pressure being less with that set-up. FWIW, the Stage III is supposedly good for 600+hp. It if was me, I'd go Stage III all the way.:thumbsup:

stage III is what I'm going to order.

I hear of many people who go with the stage II clutch and stage III pressure plate.

On the firewall adjuster, make sure you get one with a locking ring. I installed a Steeda on my '01 and had to constanly tinker with the thing because it couldn't lock. On the '03 I bought a UPR.

I have the Spec Stage 2, Steeda adj quadrant(double hook), and adj cable. When i was shopping for a clutch i called Spec direct and spoke to a tech. They have redesigned the Stage 2 pressure plate to to match the the stage 3 pressure plate clamping force. the only difference in the 2 are the discs. People i know that have the Stage 3 are having quite a bit of clutch chatter. Ive had my clutch in for 2 months now and about 2500 miles. Everything seems great, the pedal pressure is unbelievable w/ it! ITS SOO LIGHT! My advice would be to get the Stage 2 set-up along w/ adj quadrant and cable.

I did some shopping around for clutches very recently. Everyone that didn't sell SPEC clutches had some terrible things to say about them. Give Steeda a call, and ask them what they think about SPEC Clutches, or call up Brother's Performance. I ended up going with the brother's performance stage 4 clutch (will be in the new catalog). Pedal feel is perfect, and this girl loves to grab, yet not too grippy for street use. Absolutely zero clutch chatter, and safe for upwards of 600+ ftlbs of torque.

I went with the Spec III clutch. Those who are experiencing chatter probably did not replace the flywheel steel facing. The hot spots of the old disc meeting with the new surface of the clutch will bring about quite a chatter.

where do you get the flywheel steel facing? Is this direct from Ford parts or aftermarket?

I had the dealer warranty it out and give me a new one.
