Hey JT,
How is the Cobra running these days? I finally got around to the H/C on mine but can't find a good place to have it tuned like it should be.There is a place in Orlando that can do it but I can't get the time off of work to make the trip.

that sounds good about the 03,I was hoping mine would do better than it has with the H/C but I know it's my tuning it's hard to find someone around here to tune mine.If I wasn't so computer dumb I would buy ls-1 edit and give it a shot.I tried some of those Nitto's and I couldn't get my car too hook up with them like yours did.The best I could get with them was 1.80

I won't be making this event. I'll be overseas most likely. If I get back (doubtful) I'll be there. I'll make the next drag day hopefully. Heck, i'll make an event sometime hopefully.

Believe me, you won't have to twist my arm to get me to a drag day:D. If i'm around, even if my car isn't tuned yet, i'll go, but won't run. If it's tuned, the drag radials will get a workout;)!!

I'm hoping, but i'm not sure if it's doable. There are a few things working in my favor, but there are also somethings against me. I guess CNN called it a victory??? That's what I heard anyway. I just wish they'd keep their mouth shut (news). I wonder how they'd feel if their young son was on the front lines? "So Sadaam, how surprised will you be on April 16th, at 4:52pm, when the 3rd Marine Infantry division comes to your house and walks through your front door??"

That is the price we pay for a "free" press, unfortunately. You see, the conspiracy theorists are everywhere, and if there ain't reporters reporting what is "really" going on, then these people are free to come up with all kinds of crap. Unfortunately, the reporters are the best intelligence service for the enemy that has ever been. :( I personally think it is bull, but nobody asks me my opinions. ;)

Ken,
Quick Question. So the 03 Half-Shafts WILL work in my 01? I heard people say yes, and others say no. What's the straight truth with respect to the 03 half shafts?
Thanks,
Craig
Ken 01-Cobra
04-24-2003, 12:25 PM
They dropped right in. As far as I know, there were no issues at all with them. (the work was done at a Ford dealership...long story) I hope to get the car to the track soon and test the theory that they can take more punishment than the 01's could! ;)
And if it means anything, I had an SVT engineer confirm that the 2003 halfshafts were a direct drop in replacement for the 2001 shafts. I figure that he should know, so I went with what he said. :D

That's the press for ya I guess. I guess we just have to live with it ya know. It'd make it harder for them if we didn't offer them rides everywhere, or give them food and water everyday. But, they are pretty cool. Really gutsy, but they seem to put theirselves in harms way for wrong reasons if you ask me. Nobody asks for my opinions either though Ken;).

Well, it looks like I'm going to be there as well. I'm gonna be back from the sand in time. Just need to get my tune, and I'm searching for a 6pt cage. Anyone know what the rules are for verts? Is it 13.99 for verts with no roll bar? If I get my 6-pt cage in, do I need the harnesses? Driveshaft Safetly loop requirements? ETC.

All verts must have a rollbar. Beyond that I'm not sure what else. Maybe Tony will grace us with his vast knowledge! ;) ;)

I hope I can get one in there then. Thanks for the info Greg and it would be great to see you again too. I may be able to get a cage but I don't want to rush it. I can hold off and get the cage I want if it comes to that. I'd love to run at least once and then get sidelined. :D

Why would verts need a rollbar, normally if you run 14.0 or slower verts can run.?? Same goes for 11.0 or slower for fixed roof cars?

Those are the track rules. NO VERTS AT ALL without a rollball. They own the track they make the rules!

Head gasket takes me out of the show. Very strange happenings, it is leaking but no ill effects except the leaking. Enough that it is unsafe to take it down the strip. I will not have time to fix it before the 17th. Ya'll have fun and burn 'em off for me. I will probably be under the hood that day removing the head(s) so it will be fun!!
2 in a row sucks since I was really looking forward to it, guess my Bday weekend will be spent down there with you...depending on alot of things of course....

HA!! Tempremental yes but dang its fast!! Actually, I dont know how fast it is....never made it to a track with PHASE II, PHASE III will be even better!!

Hey, that is why they make all the different types, so everyone can find at least one they like. I am a rather late Ford convert, owning my first one in 99. So far, I've had very good luck with them! If my son's soccer team get's knocked out of the running for the state cup this weekend in Raleigh, we'll bring the 94 down and see if we can't destroy the clutch. If they happen to win, we play on Greensboro on Drag Day.
BTW, we put the Steeda quadrant, fire wall adj. and adj. cable in last night. pretty clean install and clutch feels better, but I see a clutch this summer.:( :( Hey Thomas B., who did yours?

We took the car over to Banana Motorsports and did the install ourselves.
Hey Jeff, you can have the clutch out of my car. With what I have now, I made it cry uncle at 4500 RPMs. I have a HD Motorsport pressure plate and McLeod dual performance disk on the way. The current clutch only has about 25K miles on it. There's nothing wrong with it, but it's only rated for 400 hp and I'm making 550 hp. As they say, I have found the weak link.

Well, it's really too soon to judge the weather but that is something of a negative weather report we're looking at. I've seen the weather turn around 100% but at the same time it could rain.
We drove 3.5 hrs each way last March and we got rained out. That was a long way to drive for no track action. I'm really hoping we get a dry track this weekend.

No, Tom, my Focus in not SVT, it is slow rental car. Cobra having transmission replaced after second failure. Not putting the same thing back in......have e-mailed MGW about bringing a new shifter knob to drag day, one with 6-speed pattern.
If any of you plan to modify your cars, don't buy the ESP warranty package. It's a crapshoot.....this time, not covered, last time, yes. Depends on your dealer's service advisor as well as the "inspector" that Ford sends in to make the determination of warranty coverage or not. I got two no's this time, cancellation of remainder of ESP and no help from Ford at all.

If it was to rain it would be a quick passing thing IMO. This time of year we probably won't be seeing anymore of those 3-5 day pouring rains. At least I hope we don't this weekend :)

So you're getting a six speed but which tranny? Who's doing the work for you?? Why did Ford say no to the replacement the engine mods?? Inquiring minds want to know! :D :D ;)

The only other stop I will make before the dragway will be at Exit 5 on I20 at the Speedway gas station.
See you there! :) will meet you all at the track!! we may be in a v6 mustang.... NO not running that! not even against dave's mighty focus!:rotf: :rotf: :rotf: we have had our fun though , havent' we dave?!? (who's bringing the virgins?) :rotf:

I plan to be the brackets champion......no, I wouldn't want that to happen to you guys. That would be worse than losing to an old pickup truck!
My original Ford dealer in Raleigh, Capital Ford, said no to the warranty coverage on repair of reverse gear in my 99. I pitched a fit, call lots of numbers in Dearborn, got no relief. No only were they not going to cover the repair, but ESP inspector voided the remainder of the ESP contract, and Capital charged me $240 for pulling out the tranny, letting it sit for a week while they made up their minds how bad they wanted to hurt me.
So, the hell with them, True Blue is putting in a T-56, with some associated aluminum parts, new Steeda Tri-ax.
Just urge anyone contemplating purchase of the extended warranty to NOT DO IT if they have any inkling of adding mods to their car. What I did to the car had nothing to do with reverse gear, but hard-headed For had a differing opinion. It's up to the car owner to prove the aftermarket stuff didn't cause the stock part failure, not the other way around.
So there, that's what the hell happened!!!

Uh, Dave, if I was the ford rep looking at your car, I think I'd have to void the ESP too!:D
Your car is the poster child for why warranties shouldn't be honored. :rotf: You've got everything on that Cobra that would void a warranty. Now, lets face it....tranny probably went bad based on your extreme driving habits both drag racing AND road racing. ;)
Glad to see you went with the T56.

I won't be able to make drag day...family concerns are going to keep me from making it. I will keep in touch on here and let you know how the new motor install is going. True Blue is going to start on it the 23rd of this month. :D

I am bringing the trailer if I'm able to make it and it's about a 50-50 proposition right now. If I do come down True Blue will be driving the car back to the shop to change motors! :D

Craig...sorry but no I don't have them. I had no use for them. I don't think you'll have a problem with DR's. ;) I never got enough hook with them to worry about the halfshafts!
And the weather looks like we might luck out, IF the weather forecast is even close. (it wasn't on March 1st) But I am keeping my fingers crossed and looking forward to getting some runs in!
