Well, we had the car out for the first time this year and it ran great. Everything held together and we were on track for over 4 hours. At the end of the second day I was able to do a 1:40:20 and I'm trying to figure out if that would be a competitive time in AIX. We plan on doing a couple of other things to the car over the next couple of weeks that should get us down to around 1:38:00 (I hope). Anyway me and my Dad are talking about running 1 or 2 AI races this year and are trying to figure out were we stand.
Thomas
PS
I'm going to post a link to the video of my fastest lap and if anyone has any pointers I would welcome the feedback.

We were last minute as to if we were going to make it or not so we didn't make any big plans. Scott list came down and that was cool but his car had trouble and he was unable to run. John, are you going to the AI race at gingerman? Steve how are the shocks working out?

You will need quicktime 6 to view it because it is a MPEG4. You can download it here.

If I remember right, that beats my time at RA. I think I had a quick time of 1:41 or something like that. And considering I was running 1:50 at CMP which is what the AI guys run, I would think that puts you very competitive in the AI/AIX crowd.

Very COOL Thomas. That's the exact line I take throughout... well, except for turn 12. I like to get a little closer to the inside wall down the front straight. :D (that's a joke for those that don't know... the yellow paint on that wall is mine.)
Man, I miss Road Atlanta!!!:(

Hey Thomas - nice looking ride. It looks like a real screamer.
What do you have done to it motor wise? I know you've taken it to SHM, but I'm curious what you've got under the bonnet.
1:40's at RA is pretty smokin. I'm not sure what Tone runs there but I want to say 1:38's. I'm about 1-1.5 seconds off his times at most tracks so if you're not over 9.5:1, you might want to come tango in AI!!

Bryan, Sean did the motor last year and it has forged rods and pistons, ported and polished heads, long tube headers and a port matched intake. It puts about 340 to the rear wheels (It will be on the dyno next week and I will have an exact number). The car weights somewhere close to 3000 pounds and that puts us at about 8.8:1. We know that we can find about another 70 hp and with some setup work I think I can get down to 1:38s which should let us run well in AIX. Let me know what you think.

I think you should weigh the car and if you're at 3130 w/ driver then add 100 lbs. of balast to get a perfect 50/50 and 9.5:1 and go with AI. That car with you driving would be a contender.

Tom, I didn't know that the weight was taken with the driver. That changes everything. Over the next couple of weeks we will be doing a dyno pull and corner weighting the car. Once we have some hard numbers we will fiqure out what we should run in. Also do you know how much the spec tires for AI cost?

I don't, but I'm sure these AI guys around here do. You may want to post that question over in the American Iron forum.

Quit that Tom. I have enough competition. :D The Toyos are $215 shaved from Vilven Tire, to your door.

Ok... so maybe I was off a little on the times. Sorry about that.
Still, is this the first time out with the car? It will take some getting used to and will still need to be sorted out, so don't worry too much about your times - they'll drop. However, I would definitely run AI to start with. Personal opinion, of course, but I think it's a better entry to racing.
Also, 1:40's aren't bad so don't get down about your times. Tone is not a slow driver and your car is not in "full AIX" trim so no worries...
