Well I finally placed in an event and on street tires no less. There were only two other cars. One was an old camaro v6 and the other was a 72 stang with the original 302 in it. Both of them had a one day heads up on me since I didnt make the first day of runs. I felt a little like a bully but I guess a win is a win. Maybe it will challenge them to build something faster.

Could you feel the difference with a lighter car? Congrats

Thanks. The difference is VERY noticeable and I still havent moved the battery or removed the ac. Right now with my current setup the car really rotates well but I could use a little more spring rate to keep the body roll down for slaloms. I think after the cage I might have to spring for coil overs front and rear with much higher rate springs.

congrats buddy....

I did awful this weekend up at the CCR auto-x in Boone. We only got half the runs that we were suppose to because of the wonderful Boone weather. The problem was that I dnf'ed my first two runs and had no clue, and I didn't have time to ask someone between runs because there was only 20 cars in the second run group...Then, my third, and final timed run was so slow because I was only driving like 6 tenths so I could figure out where I screwed up. The miata was fun to drive, but I've gotta get used to how it drives. It has a ton of body roll, but if it is done smoothly, it will be fast (relative).

I can't wait for Summit Point this weekend!!! Then the Parkway Ford cruise in the weekend after...this is how life should be. haha

Half the runs sucks, THSCC managed 5 runs both days and fun runs Sunday. Sounds like you are having fun with the miata. :D Try running 6/10ths on the first run so you can get the course down first. I have been using my first run to make sure I know where the course is and find any visual reference I might need later.

yeah, i just overdrove it the first two runs. i had a nice drift through a right hand sweeper...looks cool, but its not fast.

Nice job!! Congrats on the win!! :D

Do you guys get the chance to walk the course before you run? That always helps me out...plus I sign up to work the first heat and then run the second, so I can see half of the cars run before I do to see where people mess up. :D

Thanks. :D I still feel like a bully beating up on a couple old cars but I did do it on street tires. Walking the course is a must. I try and make enough time to walk at least twice if not more.

You are more than welcome to come up and co-drive my car for an event.

Tom, If you aren't opposed to staying up late, you should come to the 24 hour autocross at Knights Stadium. The autocross is the last weekend in August. Joel, my roomate, and I went last year and had a blast. You and any other autocrossers should come check it out.

Maybe even Tony will come check it out since its in his backyard.

The 24 hour event is a blast even in the constant drizzle we had last year. I got at least 24 runs in and maybe 2 hours of sleep on Sunday.

Thanks for the offer. Not sure if I would take you up on that, but I would love to come watch one.

If you do make it at least bring a helmet so you can catch a ride or two.

A 24 hour autox event sounds interesting...is it competition runs or just fun runs?

Tom, you have to try an autox sometime, it's a pretty neat experience considering you don't go much faster than 60mph and it's all done in a parking lot or airfield. :D

You can run as often as you want but only get 6 official runs. The official runs arent your best 6 but rather the 6 that you claim as official BEFORE you start that run. :D Makes things interesting this way. Last year I knew I was done when the starting line worker woke me up on the line to ask me if this would be an official run or a practice.

*sigh* I remember how hard it was to get to sleep at 3 am...with the sound of engines running throughout the night. I jumped out of my sleeping bag at 6 am like I had gotten 12 hours of sleep...I think I should always be able to get out of bed and hit the autocross course. I'm bringing an air matress this year.....

Y'all need to quit. You're gonna make me want to try a autocross event before the Focus is gone.:)

Now you have to try it Tom...especially since you have sticky tires for the Focus!! Give in to the peer pressure!!! ;) :D

How far in advance do you have to sign up to run the 24 hour event?

Dave,

Do you know what kind of competition there is in the Street Modified class that might attend that event?

I might try to make this happen! :D Thanks for the info.! :)

Last year, they had two fast Eclipses. That is all that I really remember. It is a fun event, you should try to come down if it is possible. Later
