50K is almost here.. about 500 miles away. I was wondering how long do the stock shocks/struts last?

I just purchased the car with 47k on her so I do not know what the ride feel was like new, but I gather it is probibly time to do the shocks/struts.

If I keep everything on the suspension stock what kid of shocks/struts should I get? Just stick with ford? I dont want adjustable because I just like things that are plug and play, I dont want to tinker with something like that.

Springs don't generally wear out. Shocks do. When? depends on how hard they were driven. I don't know of any test other than the bounce test.

If you're not having a problem and you aren't trying to improve handling, looks, etc. You might not need to spend the cash.

how do you do the bounce test? If i grab on to the strut tower brace I can get the car to move quite a bit.

The bounce test is supposed to be done like this.
Push down on the fender hard enough that the suspension rebounds and bounces. If it bounces more than 2-3 times, you need new shocks. This works on a sloppy 66 Mustang. It doesn't work on my 96 Cobra with Race Springs. I have to sit on the fender to get the suspension to compress. Might work with a stock suspension, though.

If the shocks are original, its probably time.....
Bilstein does a very good replacement shock. All Bilsteins are self-adjusting for your plug-n-play. KB normally stocks them. ;)
