We just got back from Charlotte this weekend, and to avoid the normal "wrecks in the rain on 40 after Asheville", Michelle and I took the Blue Ridge Pkwy and came up behind G'burg. We discussed the trip, and if she's able to go and we find a baby sitter, we're going to try to make it.

Hi! It's Julia! Thomas is out of town and I don't know his user name and password to log on under his name. Therefore I created my own. Hope no one minds! ;) :D

Just wanted to let you know that we will be joining you for this event again this year. So, here's our info:

Thomas Bramblett and Julia Kobiska
1997 White Cobra
Coming from: Lexington, SC
Cell Phone: 803-463-0302/803-463-0303
Meeting either in Asheville or Gatlinburg (undecided right now.)

Gary and Shirley Piellusch (MY PARENTS!!! :D :D )
2000 GT Convertible
Coming from: Lake City, Michigan (competing for that long distance award! ;) )
Cell Phone: 231-878-0863/231-878-0866
Meeting either in Asheville or Gatlinburg (see above)

Can't wait to see you all there!!!!

Will we be treated to an encore performance? Last year's was certainly a "hoot"! :rotf: Great job, Thomas! We were all proud of ya up there on that stage, no doubt!

jkb
08-12-2003, 07:57 AM
I'll have to check with Thomas on the repeat performance. I am assuming that you mean a repeat performance of the redneck survivor and not a repeat performance of the clutch dump...right? If we lose another clutch this year, I'm never going on this trip again. I can guarantee that.

As for redneck survivor, Tony said that the show we are doing this year is not quite like last year so Thomas may not have a chance to perform for us. However, between he and my dad, I'm sure they will come up with something. They are both comedians and when you get them together...watch out!:D

Did I mention how much I am looking forward to this trip? Can't wait to see you all again.

Thanks Tony! I use any advantage I can to embarrass my dear hubby! ;)

I need to call and reserve our four tickets. Any chance you can shoot me an email with the telephone number in it again? We had to pack our desktop up and send it to Maine for repair/upgrade so I'm not sure where I saved that email.

Thanks! See you soon.

Julia

oh...send it to jkobiska@yahoo.com, please. Since our desktop is in Maine, I don't have access to my RR account. Thanks!

Mr. Ed
08-12-2003, 10:39 PM
No Julia. I was referring to the stage show. Not the "downside" of the trip for you 2 last year. We won't go there. Good friends like you never need or deserve that kind of misfortune and aggravation. All will be fine this year. You can count on it! See ya there! :D

Julia,

The number is 1-877-388-5784 (toll free) Ask for Jennifer or Ruth Smith and tell them you are with the SCMC and that shoud take care of it. As of yesterday, only Ken Walder and I have bought tickets so don't wait too long or they will get gone and you won't get to sit with the group!

Tony

jkb
08-14-2003, 03:50 PM
Four tickets purchased on the aisle. Jennifer said that someone sitting on the aisle is fair game for audience participation. Therefore, Thomas and my dad will be sitting closest to the aisle. :D She told me to "wink, wink, nudge, nudge" when we get there and that way they will know who they should be looking for to choose for participation.

Can't wait to see you all! (Yes, even you, Lisa! :rotf: ) You know I'm j/k, girl. I love ya' and look forward to chatting with you.

We were informed about the dragon run and I was wondering, do you have to be SCMC members to participate? I let my membership lapse a few years ago and have not renewed yet.

No, not so much clever. maybe more imaginative( that might be another word). I thought it sounded cool, a kind of roll off the tongue sort of word. " Sidewindingly Slitherous " just kinda rolls along, to me anyway! I just wanted to put something that was original, whether or not it was good. I am glad you gave a positive response to it. I was waiting for someone to say, what the @#*% does that mean. --- So, you ARE bringing that big boy pony to the run? I like the color you have in your pic, I have a buddy at the local ford place who gave me an EXCLUSIVE test drive. The charger sounds sooo good under the hood, and seeing the boost gauge was really cool too! I love the car, but not the cost. I wish they had come in 2000, I would have bought one then. I have bought my car twice, and the second time I could have bought one of them instead:mad: But anyway, I am looking forward to seeing what the next cobra will be like with new skin ford is coming out with, as well as all the cobras that will be at the dragon!!!:bounce: :bounce: See ya there!!!

I don't mean to be a party pooper, but I think they stink (the hotel, that is). They wouldn't guarantee us a nonsmoking room.  Anyway, that's why we'll be staying about a half mile down the road. I'm really looking forward to the weekend, but I'm gonna miss the fun of staying at the same hotel with you guys and all those COBRAS in one parking lot!! :(

Karen says we'll be looking for another place to stay if we dont get a non-smoking room! :blast: :getsome: :wildguy:

cobrabitn
09-09-2003, 11:35 AM
Unfortunately if that is the hotel practice then there is nothing we can do about it. You won't have to worry about it next year because we won't be in Gatlinburg in 2004. On the high side though Ken... if they give you a smoking room and us a non-smoking room then you can have our room. I want to keep everyone together regardless of the accommodations. Having 30 plus Cobras in the parking garage (covered by the way and roped off for us specifically) will be worth the room switch. I firmly believe that even though they didn't "guarantee" a non smoking room, you will still get one. If not, see above statement.

Remember, the bigger the event and we have 34 people going now, the harder it will be to please everyone. We can't even please 8 people in Helen, GA. How are we to insure 100% satisfaction with 34 couples? Take the good out of it and try not to dwell on the negative and you will enjoy the weekend more, I promise! This is not to make anyone mad or offend anyone so please don't take it that way. Let's just go have a good time!

Thanks,

Tony

Karen says we'll be looking for another place to stay if we dont get a non-smoking room! :blast: :getsome: :wildguy:

The problem is it will be too late. You don't find out until check in. I can't imagine being able to get a room somewhere else on such short notice during that time of year. If you're interested, I can give you the info on the hotel where we're staying. It's only a half mile down the road. We could have our own little Cobra party! :bounce: :bounce: :bounce:    :rotf: :rotf:

Thanks,

Tony

Tony, I'm not offended by anything you've said, but I was offended by the practice of a large hotel to NOT guarantee nonsmoking rooms. I'm like you, though, I'm not going to dwell on it. We just can't take a chance that's why we're staying down the road. This is unfortunate, but you can understand if the smell of cigarette smoke makes a person ill, then it's better to be safe than sorry.

BTW - where ARE we going to stay next year??? :doubt:

We're staying at the Fairfield Inn (couldn't get reservations any place else), but you won't like this - $154 a night  BUT, we're guaranteed a non-smoking room ;) If anybody is interested, the number is 1-865-430-7200 or 1-865-925-9157.

Cheryl,

You and Ken are right and I agree with you, it stinks. I just checked my confirmation letter and it says they do not "guarantee" a non-smoking room however it does say that they will do their best to accommodate. Jacque and I cannot understand what is so difficult about reserving a non-smoking room?

I was going to call and raise stink but then I saw it in writing. As I said, next year we will be some where else but before I leave this hotel on that weekend, I will tell them what I think from day one!:(

Tony

P.S. Jeff, Please add Mark and Sophia Young to the list. They will meet in Charlotte and drive a 1997 Rio Red Cobra Coupe.

Let me say from the outset that this is NOT and I REPEAT NOT directed toward ANYONE who had a part in selecting this hotel. Be realistic! YOU COULDN'T HAVE KNOWN AHEAD OF TIME, OK? For goodness sakes, I know this!;)

Since we are describing our room-guarantee issues, I'd like to pass along what happened to me when I called to reserve my room.:(

I was told that I COULD NOT reserve a room with the American Express Card. I could however, PAY for the room with that card upon departure. That makes no sense to me at all.

I reported this incident to AMEX and they promised to investigate it. To date, I don't know the outcome. I've had the AMEX Card for over 25 years and I know AMEX looks out for its cardholders and won't tolerate this nonsense.:bs:

My 2 cents.

Sorry, guys. I didn't mean to start anything, honest. However, since I did, I guess it's a good thing for us to share info and realize that we're in this together. Tony, I don't know why we're not staying at this hotel next year, but I certainly hope you tell them it's because of blah...blah....blah! This club is certainly large enough to make its presence known, and some day they'll regret that they didn't go out of their way to make the wonderful people of the SCMC happy!!!! :flag:

Amber & Jeff,

There's absolutely no need for anyone to beat themselves up over the choice of hotel. IIRC, wasn't it a consensus decision to try this place? Seems to me that there are a lot of advantages to staying here (i.e. the parking, nearby food and shopping, less traffic than Pigeon Forge) so let's concentrate on having fun!

My wife and I will be there. I also have an 03 Cobra pal that is driving down with his wife. We are staying in a cabin, but plan on hanging with you guys/gals for the cruise and TOD run.

Can you post the exact details... Times of the Blue Ridge cruise and the TOD time. If you list the details of where / what time everything is going to happen we will easily find all of you.

I just did the Dragon back in June and loved every curve "all 318 of them" :D I'm so excited about hitting it in the cool october air... it is going to be the ****!

See you all there, Ralph

PS: be sure to list the details or PM me with them (exact times / places; thanks).

PSS: what is the current attending stang count up to now????

ScaryGT--
Exact details are not finalized yet, and depends on where you are coming from.
but if it is workable, expect to meet at the rest area on I-40 west at about mm136 (between Statesville and Hickory) at approx 7:30. There will be other meet points for those coming from Raleigh and Charlotte to meet before the I40 meet point.

be sure to keep an eye here for the details!

Looks like we will have over 40 cars!!!:bounce: :bounce: :bounce:

And there WILL be a 'touring' group this year that will be stopping to take pictures for those that are interested in that.

Why are you meeting on I40? I'm going to already be in Gatlinburg on the evening of the 16th. I figured since I'll be there a day earlier that I would just meet with all of you at the Hotel.

Let me know if I'm thinking incorrectly.

Thanks, Ralph

We meet on I-40 Friday morning for those who are driving that day on the BRP. We have folks coming from Raleigh and Charlotte and that is a good place to group, pit stop. We leave from there, and hit the BRP as a group. We have also then met up in Asheville (mall area) with folks that find that area as a good meet up place. We do the 'eat here and get gas' thing there too, as it is around lunch time by then. We will then most likely continue on the BRP to Gatlinburg, arriving by dinner time. This is all tentative, but is what we have done the past couple of years.

Ralph, We're going to be in Gatlinburg on Thursday, too. :bounce: Maybe we could get together and drive part way up (down?) the interstate and meet the rest of the group somewhere. OR There may be enough interesting stuff to do in Gatlinburg on Friday that we might forgo the excess driving, but it's a thought. We're coming all the way from Tuscaloosa, AL.

you will most likely find us if you travel 421- through GSM NP to the blue Ridge Parkway. Like I said before, keep a check for the final interary!

Cheryl-- will you email me your cell #??? If there are any last minute changes, I can call you so you guys will know if we end up having to change our route.

EVERYONE: If you have 2-way radios, bring them. also you can email me and Jeff cell phone numbers, so we can have lists made for everyone to have them if needed. And they seem to be needed at times. With 40+ cars, communication will be important ( like we NEVER talk anyway.....;) )

RCodeKelly,

We have several Mustangs coming to the Dragon Run. I believe right now we are up to about 45 cars total. We have a Bullitt, GT convertible, Mustang 6, and about 40 Cobras. All SCMC events are open to any Mustang or Ford owner. Come on down and run the dragon with us!

P.S. If you want to come to TN next weekend then why not come to our Ted Russell SVT, Mustang, and Ford Show? We have dozens of raffle prizes and you get a "free lunch" just for entering! :bounce:

Sounds great, I might do that!

I can't wait til the Dragon Run... :flip: I'm assuming lunch-ish is the general time for meeting in Asheville on Friday? I'm sure if I'm anywhere in the vacinity, I won't be able to miss ya...

BTW... You guys drive some awesome machines!! Can't wait to be seen with you... ;)

Oh, and most everyone going probably already knows this, but rooms are few and far between in Gatlinburg. River Terrace is next door to Edgewater and had a few rooms left, but I didn't see much else.

You are correct Sir! about the lunch meet in Asheville. Jeff will have all the details in the next week or so for everyone to read over. Hope to see you this weekend. We already have one Mach1 registered for the show. BTW, we are going out to eat on friday night if you come up a day early and want to go out and eat with us. ;)

Thanks for the invite! I have to say, though, I'm not a Sir... :jawdrop:
I'd let it slide but you'd probably notice when I got out of the car!

I guess it didn't occur to me that Kelly is one of those names that you just never know for sure...

I'm still not positive about this weekend, I'll post if I can make it so someone can let me know where to meet Friday night.

Well actually..... if you watched Johnny Carson...it was just a saying that Ed McMahon said. "You are correct Sir" but I couldn't tell from your BB name if you were a male or female. Sorry if you got offended..... it wasn't meant that way. :(

RCodeKelly
09-30-2003, 11:25 AM
No no no... not offended at all! :D I was laughing, actually... sorry I'm not up to speed on my Johnny Carson, I didn't catch the quote ;)

No worries!

Hey, Lisa, are we going to get a list of cell phone #'s?? I would like to get in touch with whoever is going to be in Gatlinburg on Friday. We're going up on Thursday. We're gonna have a nice long, FUN weekend! We're on Fall Break :bounce: :bounce: :bounce:

For Raleigh area and those coming through, let's meet at the Waffle House parking lot at intersection of highway 55 and I-40 (exit 278) at 5:15AM on the 17th. We'll wait until 5:30, then leave. This should put us through Greensboro just over an hour later, to arrive at the I-40 rest stop at MM 136 by 7:30.

At exit 278, if traveling westbound, go straight across at the bottom of the exit ramp, turn left into Waffle House parking lot.
If traveling eastbound, at exit ramp stoplight, turn left, then right at next light.

Look for my 99 Red convertible with SCMC signs on the doors.

All,
I will buy multiple shirts and if I had my dithers it would support this club if they are available, 2-XL and 1-Med...hint hint.
The paint shop here had one request when I asked what they would charge to re-paint my snakes, "just get me a shirt and we are even". I'll be bringing 4 handheld radios folks so just bring AAA batteries (4 per) and come to the Black 03 with the Red Wheels, lenders while supplies last.

There are rooms still available, just not at the Edgewater. I just reserved mine next door at River Terrace--2 queens, a fireplace, and a view of the creek, $125.00 with AARP discount. You cant beat that. Also, the Graystone Lodge has rooms still. I thought I would pass this along to anyone that doesnt have a room yet. Rodney,

Running the dragon is the best part of the weekend next to socializing of course! :rotf: It wouold be fun to run the Lightning through 318 curves in 11 miles, trust me on that. We have a luncheon set up for Saturday afternoon right by the river. I'm sure your significant other would want to see the Fall color too.

Do the shopping on either Saturday night or Sunday. That's what we plan to do.

Scocher,

Dinner plans are as follows. Since we have so many people going and not everyone agrees on where to eat. It would be best to just find a fellow member that likes what you like and go with them. Many of us are arriving on Friday afternoon so I would venture to say that you may be on your own on Thursday night. Meet us at the hotel around 6:00 pm and we can decide then but remember, we have to be at the theater by 7:30 pm to get our seats. Lastly, I'd like to do a meeting at the hotel after the show is over to go over Saturday's schedule and meet other members, if Jeff is okay with that?

See you in a couple of days!

Many thanks to all who planned the event.....it was great fun. Extra thanks to those who assisted my son, Terry, with his car problems. We talked with him late Sunday night...he was in Boone, we were in Las Vegas. Terry has some fuel pump (he thinks) on his way back, but made it back to school in time to work on a history paper.

Again, thanks to "C", Tony, Jeff, and any others who took the time to help out. It was comforting to know that lots of very kind and helpful people were there to assist in his time of need. It would hav ebeen really tough for him if he was on his own with these car problems.

Anyone want to trade for a thirteen year old Fox body convertible with 200,000 miles on it? Would make a good base for a track car.

Tony, I'll send a check when I get home.

Although I was a bit disappointed to not run the event in my Cobra (yes, I really do own one) I still had a blast. I got to meet a lot of people, catch-up with old friends and make some new ones all in the same weekend.

I took quite a few pictures this weekend, though sticking your camera out the window at 70 mph around a mountain curve is not conducive to the best photography! :burnout:

However, a few turned out viewable. They're posted below if you'd like to see. The last link is a short .MOV file taken in one of the tunnels behind Whistler. Turn your speakers on! I am not a web designer and my friend has directory listings disabled, so please excuse having to click on each link separately to view.

Enjoy!

Crystal and I had an awesome time at the Dragon...it was great seeing all those 'stangs in one place doin' what they do best...run!!! Great time seeing everyone again...we're starting to put names and faces together. Can't wait 'til the next one!!! Thanks for the pics, RCode...enjoyed meeting you Friday night...never really got a look at that Mach 1...maybe we'll see it at one of our Atlanta shows.
