I have a 97 vert. with MM Bilstein coilovers. I have been looking to upgrade from the stock wheels and tires. What is a good size match up to this car and setup. Does anyone here run the 17x9 Cobra R wheels? If so what backspacing and what size tires?

If you're already running the coilovers, Spring length will play a factor on what width to run up front. 17x9 R model wheels will rub on anything other than an 8" spring. the 00R 18x9.5 will clear it tho.

What length springs are you running?

What is the backspacing of the 00Rs? This seems illogical that a 17x 9 rubs but an 18x9.5 won't.

On the springs I left out the word "going" in the first post as in I am going with MM Bilstein Coilovers. They are not in yet. I am talking with MM on spring rates and lengths.

Be sure to mention wheel choices to them. Remember the strut is angled up into the tower, an 18" wheel is going to put the lip and tire over the perch, where the 17x9 R style wheel will interfere. I was worried about the possibility of coil bind with an 8" spring, and to avoid it, I'd have to run a stiffer spring (from 400# to a 425#). MM are the guys that set me straight on the wheel info.

As far as backspacing, I'm honestly not sure...

17" x 9" (+24mm, 5.95" backspace). They are 5-lug (5 on 4.5).

That's all I know for sure on the wheels. Tires, I can't help you. I run a 255/40 on the front, but I know 275/40's will fit easily. I don't have coil-overs, and I'm not sure what size tire to choose for optimal autocrossing or whatever.

Front: 17x9 +26mm offset

Rear: 17x10.5 +27mm offset.

See my article in the last (I think) newsletter about fitment. I LOVE these wheels!
