Anyone that is contemplating a gear change, and some fool tells you that 4.30s are a bad decision, you better give them a drop kick to the head or some other form of bad-ness. :D Then go out and get you a 4.30:1 gearset and go nuts!
I'm sold now, and I've only had them in for 24 hours. Car is very tame on the street and 1st gear is very useable. To me, feels like a completely different car. Anyway, carry on with your lives, I just wanted to proclaim my happiness, I guess, since I've had a smile from ear to ear all day.

Hey Spiffy, most people make fun of me for caring about the gas mileage on my 99 Cobra, but lets face it, it's a factor and for me a big one. I want some 4.30's myself. Everybody I tell that to seems to wince in pain when I say that, not sure if its because they feel for me and my wallet or if they just fear dealing with me with a 4.30 gear in my car. If you could give me kind of a semi detailed discription of what your car is like now with the gear swap and let me know what kind of mileage your picking up with this supposed gas gusseler. By the way good luck with your future ass kickings with the new gear.
Thanks,
Ashton

Tell you what, when my Speedcal finally gets here, I'll give you MPG for two full tanks. As of now, I'm making about 42 MPG. :D
My friend I picked the gears up from made it from Raleigh to Chicago and back and averaged 27 mpg. I've been on it more than normal because its just so fun. I'll run up the RPMs to about 6K and when I hit the next gear, the RPMs drop to no less than 4K and it just puts you back in the seat and climbs back to redline super quick! Second gear almost feels like being in first gear with the 3.27s and its quite nice to accelerate in 5th on the highway instead of having to downshift. I actually have been shifting less with the 4.30s then I did with the stock gears. I've started in 2nd, shifted to 4th in normal city driving and it feels just like 1-2-3 with 3.27s. I couldn't be happier with the switch and I don't think I could ever go lower with a N/A setup in these cars.
These are just my impressions and from what I've read, seems to be the norm.

I'm the "Friend" Spiffy is talking about..
Gas mileage is NOT a concern with these gears in the DOHC cars.. Check SVTPerformance and do a search for gas mileage.. There was a nice long thread about it.. Even Bob Cosby chimed in and stated he got damn near 25 MPG with 4.88s on the highway..
Now if your foot is on the gas 24/7 then you will not get great mileage.. I for one have NEVER seen under 21 MPG in my car in town or on the highway..
4.10 is the minimum gear these cars need unless you are a road course guy then I believe 3.73s is your best choice from what I have read..
My 0.02... Let me know if you can't find that thread!

Highway driving with my 4.30's and all the bolt ons, I still get about 23 mpg. And that is averaging a "bit" over the posted speed limit! ;) 32-3400 rpm on the tach...
