Tony

Will everyone not registered as a driver be considered as a spectator or will a small pit crew be allowed? I can well understand the reasons for the spectator fee. Just want to get the rules straight. I'm in for the $40 bucks regardless(cheap price to pay for a days fun).

See ya

Pat

Pat,

A spectator is anyone who is there to watch. Pit crew?? Hmm, what would that be? :rotf: The extra $$ will help out with the bracket winners earnings so it would be like they are contributing to the cause. It will also help us to absorb the extra cost we will incur on the Fall track rental. It would be less confusing if everyone just paid the $5.00 regardless so we can cover ourselves and give a little extra if possible to the bracket winners and runner ups.

Thanks,

Tony

David Lynn - 2001 Lightning
Jack Kessler - 1996 Cobra
Lisa Milstead - Girlie Car

Can someone please post this event on other bulletin boards for me?

Also, please note that Jeffrey Miles Jr who now runs the dragstrip said he will allow convertibles without rollbars to run as long as they go by IHRA rules. This will allow other SCMC members to try their car out on the track without having to have to buy a rollbar.

I think the rules say if you are faster then 13.0 then you have to have one but can someone verify that for me?

Remember there will be a small spectator fee for the event. Just $5.00 but every little bit will help out.

Thanks,

Tony

Tony...I am not 100% sure, but I think the number is 13.49 for IHRA and 13.99 for NHRA for verts.

Dave,

We'll leave Rock Hill at 7:00 am from McDonald's on Cherry Road. This is the original meeting point, not the one in Richburg, SC. Bring the Cobra!

Rick,

Convertibles can run as long as they are not faster then 13.49. I'm trusting Ken on this one. ;) Go here for a hotel list or ask Jeff Schmell where he stayed last year? www.carolinadragway.com . Jeff's e-mail is jtscorralas@aol.com

Hope that helps! BTW, bring those HPT guys with ya. :)

Tony...the IHRA rulebook is not online like the NHRA one is. I COULD be wrong about the time limit, or the webpage I found it on could be outdated. I wouldn't put to much faith in that number. ;) My guess is that based on experience in the past, if you are not insanely faster than the rulebook, they won't tag you.

I KNOW the NHRA requires rollbars for verts faster than 13.99.

Hey!! I noticed I am prepaid for this event, must be from the rain out from last spring. I appreciate it!! But have to miss this event, the 8th is my B-day and the wife has planned a 'suprise' party for me. I was wondering she gave me so much greif about wanting to go racing....I found out, HA!!

I would like to use my pre-paid registration for the next event, next spring and pay the difference for next time if that is possible, if not then I understand and look forward to racing next event.

And I am really bummed too, the car is running very well right now and was looking for the 11.99 area with my little cammed car. OH Well, there is always next time....

Just let me know what the feelings are towards my 'request' from a chevy guy....

Chris,

I haven't received anything from you so you may want to check with the bank to see if the check has been cashed. Cancelling a check runs about $25.00 so you may want to think about that one. Just e-mail me your name, address, and car type so I can put it on the registration records. You can just pay at the gate when you get there. A note of caution here, the IHRA rules are verts that go faster then 13.99 must have a rollbar.

;)

cobrabitn
11-05-2003, 01:26 PM
Here are the IHRA rules for the dragstrip. You convertible without a rollbar cannot run faster then 13.99 or else you will need a rollbar. Jeff said he would be a little lenient on us if you are close but if you are running mid to low 13's then you'll need a bar.

A stock 99 cobra convertible will most likely run low 14's or very high 13's. I would venture to guess that you would be okay coming to the track. Remember, these rules are for your safety as well as the safety of others. A helmet is mandatory regardless and the track does have loaners but you'd be better off to get your own as the SCMC does several type track events that would require the use of a helmet.

The weather for Saturday is predicted to be mostly sunny with a high of 62 degrees and a low of 42 degrees. Let's go have some fun!

You guys should have PERFECT WEATHER for racing. I would be running the '03... but I still haven't gotten it back from the head replacement and there's no way of knowing it won't grenade on me right after the install... seeing as how it's BACK in the shop right after the head install for a stumbling problem. Turns out it was a spark plug issue. The scenario doesn't give me the greatest trust in the mechanics ability if time I get in the car it doesn't run right and has to go back.

I run better against friends than anything, when I run with Walt it is pure fun, doesnt ever really matter who wins so I guess being so relaxed helps me out a good bit.

Ken, Ill take ya up on the line with me. I love getting up there beside good people anytime my friend!

My check was cancelled today. They did not charge me anything which I was shocked. I called the bank and it has not cleared so I will just pay at the gate, no problem there guys. I should have followed up sooner but we have been really busy here killing bugs.

Woo Hoo, see you guys Saturday. Be careful getting there and please introduce yourself if you see me.

Chris

I am not sure what your best is so far, but let me know before we get there because I will be watching for you to creme it this weekend. I am shooting for some better numbers in both mine if I get the Gt there in one piece.

Til then,
Chris
Personal best is 13.25, so you could actually give me a second and a quarter. ;) And I'm used to those da&^$d blown things running me down, so that would be nothing new. :D

White Venom, I am hoping to bring my 90 Gt and my 03 Cobra. If I can't get the 90 Gt dialed in right then I may bring the 89 coupe.
I am putting in a clutch in the 90 tomorrow and just one slight tunning issue and she should be good to go. The Cobra is sitting in the garage ready to roll.

Ken, I will be watching for better then. I sure would like to see you hit a 13 flat just one time. I heard that you are gonna call me Friday and remind be what to bring. You must know me well enough to know I can't remember anything so I told my wife and kids to make sure that I did not forget your goodies.

Well, I am HOPING for better. I WANT a 12 timeslip! What comes after the 12 is not important. ;) Weather may just co-operate as long as the car and driver do also.

Heh...yeah, I heard that I should remind you multiple times and then you MIGHT remember! :D Thanks for asking them to remember too.

Todd03Blown,

You are correct on all counts! The event is open to other makes so bring your friend with you. If we keep going like this, that bracket pot may look pretty attractive... :rotf: I may even have to enter the competition!

Thanks Tony...Should I just bring the paper work and $50 to the gate? I know dumb question just want to make sure.

Todd,

That would be great and it would make registration a lot easier on everyone doing registration. Please let your friend know to do the same thing so we can get you both on the track quicker!

Also note, that when the SCMC rental is over, you can still stay for grudge night free of charge! ;)

For anyone else going to the drag day this weekend, I'm asking that you have all of your paperwork filled out so we can get you processed right away.

The Dragway was told not to let anyone in till Lisa, Rob, or I get there so please do not try to get in early as it will make things confusing and we will have to call you back to the front. I wouldn't try to be too early either as you may have cars backed out the road. Try to be there a little after 10:00 am so we can get set up.

Thanks for your help in this matter. You can print reg forms by clicking here:

Thanks for the location details, and the timing details. Looks like I'll be bringing the brick down - gonna pick up my 78 year old dad in Augusta and bring him out to see the cars/races. He'll get a kick out of riding in the car and seeing all of yours. So, for us spectators, what's a good time to arrive -- when will cars first take to the track?

Also, not sure what the rules for an event like this are -- any chance that I could get someone to take dad (as a helmeted passenger) for one ride down the track?

Fast Forward,

You can come and spectate anytime after 10:00 am. Unfortunately, you cannot ride down the track with anyone else in the car so you will have to spectate. There's a small $5.00 charge to come in and watch which should help offset the increased cost of the track rental. Hope to see you and your dad there Saturday.

Thanks,

Tony

Tony, You'll have to take me off the list for this one. I've opted to go to the Darlington GM vs. Ford event this saturday and race down there. It doesn't start until 4pm and works out better for my schedule. Sorry.

I'm really going to miss Dragday but I'll be back in Spring hopefully.

Terry is coming to Drag Day. I'll accompany him, so the rest of you won't have to. This is his first drag strip experience and he's really excited. Tony, I'm bring the registration and check.

See you in the morning at McDonald's.

Okay, it does not look like I am going to make it either.

My drag slicks came in but are for a 15 wheel instead of a 16, I was gonna come anyway with the coupe and the Gt, but the Gt has managed to brake the upper control arm supports from the body and the lowers are almost through the floor board.

So thank you for the trouble to get me on the list but I will have to sit this one out. We may still ride up in the am if possible, but I will probably be fixing a few things on the 90 Gt.

I will not miss the next event even if I only have my f-250 to run.

My apologies,

Chris

PS. You guys have fun and be careful.

Yeah - I guess the front they thought would push through ran out of gas. Oh well, if it rains, we can all put the hoods up and call it a show. We'll see who beads water the best.

I was glad to see the Volvo come too but I wanted to see what it would do in the 1/4 mile. Mike, you left way too early. You should have hung around for dinner, we went to Ruby Tuesday's (about 24 of us) and had a great time at the table!

Thanks for the kudos guys - car's traction limited (225/50/16's will BARELY fit in the rear); 1/4 isn't it's forte. While I'm happy with the acceleration (3080 lbs; about 300 HP), turning and stopping are what it really shines at. It's also pretty happy on the slab with the cruise set on about 65 knockin' down about 25 mpg. Jason, if you want a few pics, pm me with your email address and I'll shoot you over some.

Did a Ford product ever better the mid-10's the big block Chevelle was puttin' down right off the trailer? Did it rain? The roads were wet in Beech Island just 8 miles down the road at about noon.

Had to leave early - Dad's no spring chicken, and the weather wasn't the most conducive to long stays by him. Had to get him home to a warm easy chair. Every time I got into it on the way over/way back, he just had a big smile come across his face. That was worth the trip down right there. He liked the 5.8L maroon notch and the Z06.

Actually I went a 10.16 @ 129 mph. I'm still dissapointed with the car. I couldn't get my nitrous system to engage other wise I could have went low 9's. It was great to see eveyone again and I can't wait to go back in the spring.
