Several people have wanted pics so here's one. I will take more this weekend. This is the best investment I've made to date. $199 at Sears.

I'm still sitting waiting for the boat to dock from Germany....you must have gotten the last of the Bilsteins.
Oh well.....gives me time to gut the electrical system, carve out some more weight, and practice my welding lack of skill.

I started the install on the BBK longtubes also. That rear-upper bolt is giving me fits!!! 1 1/2 hours and I went and took a shower.:rotf: I'll try again tomorrow.

John, I've had better luck starting all the bolts before torquing them down. Could be the problem?? Is this something you can't reach?? Or can't get the bolt started? Another thing worth looking into (although it's not hard with a tubular K-member) is just getting new studs and new nuts from ford instead of using the BBK supplied bolts. I've read where they've come loose on people and caused leaks. I haven't had this problem though.

12-07-2003, 11:49 AM
Josh, if I would have looked better I would have tried that bolt first. I'm going to try it from the top today. I can't see how these are done with the k-member in???

The driver's side is the easiest I think. There's plenty of room to get your hand up in there from underneath the car. If you leave one engine mount attached, and remove the other one, you can put a jack under the oil pan, and crank it up. That'll twist the engine in the engine bay, and give me enough room to get all the top bolts from, well, the top. After removing the starter, the aft bottom bolts are easily gotten.
One thing I did, was grind out the header flange so I didn't have to remove the oil dipstick. The header just slips right through it.
I'm glad to hear you got them on there. :)

The k-member,A-arms are in. I'm stopped right now because of some problems with the steering rack hitting the headers. I've got a call into MM to see if their rack will clear.:(

That's Tom's solution to everything, or sometimes just hacking away at it. :)
I promise I'll call you this week about the subframes. I was gonna call you today at work, but my Grandmother died this morning, so I was with the "fam" all day. Don't worry, all was good, she went away peacefully without pain. 83 Years of good living, so everyone is celebrating. :)

Well, I'm still sorry to hear about it, but I understand how you feel . My grandfather passed not long ago and we felt the same way. Hate to see him go, but everybody, including him, was ready.
I'm spending the day in the garage tomorrow welding some "tools" for installing subframes while on the lift. I've actually got 4-5 cars lined up ready to get some connectors on. That plus 3 cages and my own AI car. Should be a busy winter. :D

Tom, print the pics out and you'll see that the MM piece would swing out of the way quicker? That make sense? I've sent the pic to MM and I'll let you know what they say.

John, my steering shaft was hitting on the headers where it runs thru the #6 and 7 primaries ( thanks, Ford, for the wonderful design). I had to pull the header and heat it up to pound a dimple in it to clear. I think it cost me some power.
But I can also get the header out in about 10 minutes. I am curious too, as to what MM tells you.

Ok, got an answer. I'm getting a new lower u-joint for my steering shaft. MM's seems to be a lot smaller. Tom and Will, there is a newer one than the one I e-mailed to you. I hope this works.
