I DO NOT WANT TO INSULT ANYONE. BUT READING ON OTHER WEB SITES, I SEE WHERE SEVERAL PEOPLE WERE CLAIMING THE STOCK 03 MACH 1'S ARE RUNNING HIGH 12'S ( WITH A GOOD DRIVER )IN THE QUARTER. NOW THEY ARE 100 HORSE POWER LESS THAN THE 03 COBRA AND I UNDERSTAND THEY ARE RUNNING HIGH 12'S. ARE THE COBRAS RUNNING LOWER THAN I UNDERSTAND? I DID READ AN INTERESTING ARTICAL YESTERDAY, THE 03 COBRA'S WERE UNDER RATED BY FORD AND ARE GENERATING OVER 400 HP STOCK. AND ALONG THE SAME THOUGHT I WOULD THINK THE MACHS WOULD BE A LITTLE UNDER RATED ALSO. NOW I AM PRETTY NEW TO THIS BUT I WOULD THINK THERE SHOULD BE A CONSIDERABLE DIFFERANCE WITH 100 HP IN THE TIMES.

The Mach 1's at our drag day were running low 14's, high 13's which is where they should be with their hp rating. Any Mach 1 running in the 12's most likely had some mods done to it.

Mods on an 03 Cobra can bring you in the 9's. Something a Mach will never see without a power adder. Enjoy the Cobra!:bounce:

With a good driver, DR's, and good track prep and weather, yeah, HIGH 12's are possible with a MACH 1.

The Cobra's IRS makes it MUCH MUCH harder to launch than the MACH 1's solid axle. Launching the Cobra harder with shake the teeth outta your head, not so for the MACH 1. You can be ALOT more aggressive off the line... whic effects ET the most.

Just look at the trap speeds and that will explain it all.

You would have to be an extremely good driver and drive it like you want to tear somethihg up. At our drag days, stock Mach's were in the 14's or high 13's. Most I have heard were mid 13's but that doesn't mean you couldn't be in the 12's. I'm just going by my observations at our events. ;)

A buddy of mine around here ran a 12.89 in the 1/4 in a '01 GT.

WELL IF WHEEHOP IS A BIG PROBLEM WITH THIS MUCH HORSE POWER. WHY DID FORD GO WITH IRS. ARE THESE GUYS THAT ARE TAKING THESE CARS TO 500 HP+ CHANGING TO STRAIGHT AXLE??? OR CAN WE STAY WITH IRS, AND STILL GET OUT OF THE HOLE WITH THE GAS ON WITH SOME REAR END UPGRADS OTHER THAN CHANGING TO STRAIGHT AXLE? ( STRAIGHT AXLE KIT $3900)

John, is his car stock?

You can reduce wheel hop by installing some lowering springs.:)

IRS bushings, stiffer spring/shock combo and most importantly STICKY TIRES.

Motor was stock. He did a little suspension work on it. He was one heck of a drag racer. He did a 8.60 in the 1/8 in my car when it was stock.

My Mach1 time's with DR and exhaust.
n/a & nos.And i suck.

n/a--1.99--13.01--106mph

NOS--1.97--12.4--116mph

I know of 4 Mach1 owner's running in the high 12's with only dr. And it's more like 80hp less. But we do have a solid rear end and 100 L'bs less than the 03-04 Cobra's.

Some people on these boards follow the 1 second rule, where a 13.9 becomes an automatic 12.9 followed by 5 people who have seen him do it from anywhere, up to 5 states away.

Jagged,

although you are correct, I don't think you'll see much of that on this board. The people here are pretty much straight shooters and have slips to back up any time or dyno pull they claim. If not, they are quickly shot down. It's not such a public forum that anything flies.

Don't forget that Evan Smith from Muscle Mustangs/Fast Fords was running mid twelves in a stock Cobra and hit the high 11s with only minor mods. A great driver makes a big difference. The IRS does s*ck for launches. Take off from a 40 mph roll and the Cobra will pull away easily from the Mach 1.
