Can I get you to put next to each person's name where they live and what type car they are driving? Thanks.

David,

You can camp at CMP but only if there are less then 10 people otherwise you will have to pay SCMC to camp. Why not just stay with everyone at the hotel? The cost of the hotel is $59.00 a night. Just call them at 803-283-1188 and ask for Sheila. Don't forget to tell them you are with the SVT Cobra Club!

Janice will be there as crew chief. She is content driving the touring session and getting rides as a passenger during the hot laps. If I'm reading my event packet correctly, I will not be able to take her as a passenger this year, though.

Larry

Tony, will we be allowed passengers??

cobrabitn
01-21-2004, 10:16 AM
John,

As in the past only members can have the passengers. The forms have that because they are generic for anyone who reads it. Like last year, as long as they are over 18 then they can ride together.

;)

timz06
01-21-2004, 05:42 PM
You run a good event, but I don't think these member/non member rules are too cool. I understand if you have legal issues, but outside of that, most groups (and yours included possibly) allow other makes since they need the extra revenue. It's your club, but everyone that attends paid good money to be there, and deserves to be treated the same.

Just my 2 cents,

Tim

johnbasf
01-21-2004, 07:37 PM
I let non members out with a passenger last year.:D I think we can use our good judgement to see who should be allowed.

Tim, we do treat everyone the same. Don't forget last March.

Tim,

On the issue of passengers, my first question, is there someone you have in mind that you want to have ride with you? If so, we can discuss this in more detail off the board.

Secondly, it's a familiarity thing. I've seen Larry at many SCMC events and he is a safe driver that would not take risks with his wife in the car.

SCMC will not let someone who just attended their first event or first few events with us have passengers unless they are a qualified instructor. Last year we had an accident at TWS and in a previous year we had an incident at Gingerman Raceway where a non-member had no regard for the safety of our club members and almost ran over one of them. After this incident we felt the need to have stricter standards.

No, the rules do not apply to everyone at the same level. Each person will be judged on an individual basis according to their driving skills and their regard for the safety of their passengers and other drivers.

We put that on the form so others will not show up with passengers in tow assuming they can have passengers without some sort of demonstration of safety awareness and level of driving skills that meet the club's safety policies.

I think you know we are pretty easy to get along with and you have made many friends at our events but please try to understand that our primary concern is safety.

timz06
01-21-2004, 09:53 PM
Guys,

thanks for your answers, I would say that a better general statement would be that passengers could be approved by the lead instructor etc. I am not trying to rile you up, but last year I did about 15 events with different clubs including yours, mustang, bmwcca, pca, and viperdays, as well as paid events such as panoz, speedventures, and tracquest. Maybe the word 'club'just bothers me, since even though I don't own a cobra, I feel I am a part of the group as well.

Tim

cobrabitn
01-21-2004, 10:48 PM
And yes, we do feel like you part of the group and maybe one day you will see the light and buy a Cobra. (Shhhh... we are trying to convert you... :rotf: )

After all, you did convert some guy from MN, who claims to have two 2000 Cobra R's but never runs them, into buying a Z06 and just recently another TN member bought one too.

Don't let the word "club" bother you. A club has many benefits besides tangible ones. Take for example, you may not have ever met many of us if we were not a club. Try to take the positives out of it and go with that.

BTW John, Please change Jayne McNutt as having a 2002 ZO6 instead of a Cobra. Thanks!

Tony

IMHO, I/you/we/da' club may want to keep from saying that only passengers can ride with members. Like Tim said, that is kind of lame and I think would discourage someone with experience from coming to the event because they aren't a member. Word is out the the CMP deal last year went well and many are waiting on this year's event.

On the ride thing, I feel like it should be known as a case-to-case scenario to be determined at the time, similar to what you were saying, Tony. I think only instructors and certain run groups should have them and not first or even second timers, but not based on if they are a SCMC member or not.

Make sure your harness is buckled tight if you ride with farmer Will...he likes to check up on his crops in turn 4 from time to time. ;)

I agree with Will on the passenger thing...do it case-by-case, not by club member status. As long as people are safe, let them do it. It's nice that we have other people willing to come out to have fun and help support the clubs events...even if their car sports a bowtie. :D

I have a question about Helmets for this event. I just purchased a Full Face Helmet built to the Snell M2000 Standard, and from what I am reading regarding Helmet requirements, I understand that it is the Minimum Helmet required. Is that correct?

Also, this was a great event last year, even in the rain! I can't wait to get back on the track!!

I could have sworn it was "SA" and not "M" since "M" isn't made for multiple impacts, but maybe John Pearson can chime in.

Tom,

You should really have an SA rated helmet for open track events. They are for made multiple impacts just in case of a mishap. A motorcycle helmet, M rated, should be used for a motorcyle. Invest in your safety and get something quality for that old noggin. :)

Actually like has been said brakes are a premium and the left front tire takes the abuse. Alot of hard sweeping right handers. Plan to switch front tires after a day if it is dry. Oh and did I mention the brakes.

The pits are to the left of the parking area (the 9 squares you see) The Start finish line is right at the pit area of course. If you follow it clockwise, the turn 1 is immediately below that straight adjacent to the pit area.

Wow - that's an old video. That's when the car still had the heater core, windows, A/C etc. I believe that's the very first AI-East race?

That lap was a pretty lazy lap as the rearend was making some nervous noises. You can see Hoover's WHITE car off to the left just after the carousel - I think he had motor problems at this race.

Regarding "using all the track." CMP is all about the dirt patches. There are a lot of corners where you apex and exit at the very end of curbing. If you get it right, you'll see a little cloud of dirt behind you on 70% of the corner exits.

Weird to think that AI times are now down to 1:48's there - 14 seconds quicker than that lap time!

I know a handful of the vette boys coming, should be a good crowd, we are still well outnumbered by the cobra guys, seems to be about 10:1!

We all want to go home with our wonderful Cobras and yeah those other cars too still in one piece. Most importantly we want everybody to go home unhurt.

Hazman, you are right, most vette drivers don't race at all and this is very dissapointing. THe z06 crowd is a little better. I hang out with a good crowd of about 10 z06 guys down here in Atl, we hit road atlanta pretty frequently, where the z06 is pretty much the dominant car at panoz. I see many more z06's than c5's at the track. I have driven my car extremely hard since new, putting about 15 track events on it last year. It is very rare that I am passed by a street driven car, in fact, I can only think of 2 at the moment, a 911 turbo at sebring with hoosiers, which is on a video on my website, and my buddy Ryan's viper at road atlanta. I avenged him at VIR by beating him by 3 seconds. (New track to both of us) I have driven with some pretty mean looking mustangs at road atlanta, some of who are on this board, and I will be pretty surprised if a non-race stang can pass me at cmp . If one can, then great, I look forward to it!

As said, this is not a race, just some friendly fun, if you are on my bumper for two turns or so I will let you on by!

I know how you feel, I drove my camaro at Roebling in Jan and got passed by a cobra! That was a hoot, ran my car stock except for race tires until I corded them, finally pulled off the muffler because I couldn't hear the car, check out the lean in this pic

THis is the mustang who passed my very easily, I think this is a race car

It is not the nuclear banana  but you can make some laps at CMP in my 97 vert. if it will make you feel better. I know it is not yellow but it does have MM TA/PHB with H&R springs, Tokicos, MM C/C plates, all urethane bushings and Toyo RA-1s.

Hazman, look forward to meeting you and your wife. You can buy me a beer at applebees after I lap you and your wife a couple of times! J/K! Not much you need to do to the z06 for track days, just flush the brake fluid, get some good pads, and get some track wheels/tires. My wimpy 01 with only 345 rwhp ran 1:42 a road atlanta with the stock paper filter and borla exhaust (for sound mainly). Now I have a new intake, but the car is fine stock, that is what is good about it.

Didn't get a great look at the cobra at roebling, it sounded really mean, had a full compliment of safety equipment, was hanging out with some AI guys so I guess I assumed it was an AI car. He was running a few seconds faster than me, but I was slow in the cumaro with 1:29 being my best lap.

I won't be a match for your Z06 because I doubt I can afford the mod that I want, but you will be surprised at how it handles. I can hang with your Z06 in the turns all day long. It's just my 170 hp won't keep up anywhere else.

I agree with you to a point. The car is very capable in the turns. I ran with a few at Beaver Run. However at Beaver the course has some longer legs and the Focus was laughable on the straights and high speed corners. In fact another 80 hp would mean little.

IMO more power would start to take away from the handling considering the front wheel drive. I am not taking away from what it is capable of but it would be very course specific even modified.

I agree 100%. When I had mine at Lowes, the best I could do was 115 going into the Nascar turn 3. V8's were blowing by me at 135+ on the back stretch. I should have said tight turns instead of just turns. I think that CMP will be one of the better tracks for the Focus though.

An SVT Focus with a Vortech kit has about 280 to the wheels which is plenty to give it legs on the straights. With the battery moved to the rear, it keeps about the same balance (which is horrible, just like the Mustang) so the corners won't suffer for somebody that knows how to use the throttle. Knowing what my car would do at Gingerman stock and at Summit and Lowes with semi-sticky tires, 280 hp and a Quaife diff is all I need to keep up with vettes and stangs.

Oh, BD, the banana motor is in my cousins garage waiting to go in his girlfriend's kit car.

Tom

Assuming 280 to the wheels and probably a little over 200 tq I agree well driven it could and would beat alot of those bigger V8's. The Focus should weigh 2500 w/o driver.. maybe slightly more.

It is still my opinion with equal drivers on most road courses the Z06 at stock hp levels should still have an advantage with sticky tires. 350 rwhp 350 rwtq at 3100 lbs w/o driver...

Just M/O... The focus is unbelieveable on an autocross:hail:

98banana
02-18-2004, 07:29 PM
Well, you didn't mention equal drivers! I rule!!! :bounce: :bounce: j/k

The SVT Focus weighs in at about 2800, I think. I don't remember exactly. I think it's about 100-200 lbs more than the standard Focus. After I'm through Lewising mine, I'm hoping for around 2400-2500. I have no idea how far I'll go with it though. Plus, I'm adding a roll cage to it, so that'll add a little more weight.

CMP will be interesting since I think the Focus will be at home there, especially in the tight section. Plus, I have a friend that is doing a little airbrushing on it that should add about 50hp. :D

Guys, we are going to have a fun weekend! I hope you guys don't think I am trying to talk myself up with the z06. It is a great car stock and with sticky tires will take the turns with the best of em. I can dog spec miata race cars, as well as my buddy's 2800 lb 88 m3 on race tires in the turns. I always love to get behind his m3 and coast down the straight and dog him on the turns because he used to tell me that he could tear me up in the turns (don't get mad L!) The car is light as said, weighing in at 3050 with 1/4 tank. Only a couple of hundred more pounds than your fucus with much more power and balance.

Plus did I mention that I am a natural kick@SS driver?

Hey Pat,

I used to go to the cruise-in every month when I had the Cobra. I'm getting a "special" paint job done on the Focus next week that will be show worthy, so I'll be there for the first one in April. It will be a true hot rod paint scheme!

I remember when the Z06 first came out, there were a few at the cruise-in. I met and talked to a guy in Columbia that had just bought a black one and somehow scored a SC license plate with Z06 on it. How cool is that?! You don't know that guy, do you? Real nice guy to talk to.

Anyway, I'm over in West Columbia right behind Grecian Gardens. Home of the road construction! LOL!

Looking forward to meeting all you Z06 guys at CMP! If I can get the nerve up of being a passenger, I'll probably ask for a ride.

Hi guys! Greetings from beijing, funny to log on and read the smack talk from the other side of the world! After arriving yesterday, I feel trapped in a time warp.

Brian, I think my best at cmp was 1:52. I am hoping to improve on that a bit this year since I think my driving is a lot better than it was at that time, plus I was running with the active handling in comp mode, the active handling saftey net will cost you some time, I don't use it anymore.

Tim - 1:52's are a pretty darn good time. The best I managed in "non-AI" trim was a 1:54.00. That was with full interior, less the back seat. AI times are down in the 1:48's now. Last year (2002) they were 1:51's. The development of the cars from 2002 to 2003 was pretty big. AIX times are in the 1:46's if I'm not mistaken, which is in stock car (not Winston Cup) territory. We need to get some GM contenders out in AI/AIX. I think there will be a few more GM guys this year - the GM cars will kick arse in AI.

This smack talk with the GM guys is freaking cool. "ANTIVNM" is a great handle. Do you look anything like Burt Reynolds by any chance?!? :D

Tom, guess what I left there? My wheel lug key. The irony of it...go figure.

I'm gonna need it sometime this weekend, do you think you could stick it in a padded envelope and drop it in the mail for me?

Ship to:

CB's Limited
207 South Main Street
Lancaster, SC 29720

I'd appreciate it....btw, that tire held up. The car tracked extremely straight, even with the differences up front. Crazy eh?

I'll get it out today.

I hate to make you do that, I just need to ditch the lug "key" and get 4 more regular lugs.

Thanks for everything!

Cobra with a Vortech on it. Sometimes people with Kenne-bells call them Kobras. Strangely enough I have never seen one with a Paxton or a Procharger called a Pobra though.

To Tony or whoever is handling the shirts, I'll take a XXL in a tall if can get it otherwise normal is fine.

That's a nice car you got there. I REALLY like the wheels on that car. Very cool

-thanks 98, it took along time to find the right wheels, for a good price. then i found out the bmw bolt pattern is the same, wheels made for bmw's seem to be a bit cheaper.

This smack talk with the GM guys is freaking cool. "ANTIVNM" is a great handle

-back in 99 the license plate could generally hold its worth. only with a small footnote that applies to vipers. hell with all the cool stuff that ford keeps coming out with, my footnotes will cover the entire bumper:( . by the way i seriously have been watching that video all the time(trying to memorize the track, and locate the brake markers at each corner)

Cobra with a Vortech on it. Sometimes people with Kenne-bells call them Kobras. Strangely enough I have never seen one with a Paxton or a Procharger called a Pobra though

-thanks jeff, couldnt figure that one out.

LOL!! That's a deal. Mind if I throw a grapple hook onto your bumper as you go by? I need all the HP/TQ help I can get!!

Glad you like the video. It's funny - no matter how many times you watch a video, it will appear TOTALLY different when you get to the track. But, it will help.

Looking forward to meeting some new faces.

I'm bringing the 94 coupe so your 15.6 second car will have to go up against my 14.3 second Snake... :rotf: This is going to be fun! Only this time, I'm not going to spot you like I did at the dragstrip! ;) You have too much of the advantage over me in the driving skills.:D

John, have you plotted out when each group runs each day? How long will sessions be?

I'm really looking forward to this. There's a great crowd, a fine assortment of cars, looks like a blast!

Nice job promoting and organizing. I'll be at the Jameson by mid afternoon Friday.

Tony, I'm with John, I wouldn't recommend turning your rotors. The will be more succeptable to cracking. I don't know about mustangs, but for the vette you can get the rotors for $20 a piece from rockauto.com. I know napa also has cheap vette rotors which work fine. I have also run a set from autozone with no problems. These were around $50 a piece.

John

I assume that if we want an instructor or experienced rider that has knowledge of the track we can get them. Really for the first time out in the Z it would be great to have another Z driver that has driven CMP..

Turning may work, but it depends on how bad they are. I like John's idea of getting new rotors. CMP will be happy.

You guys have no idea what 'busy' is when trying to get ready for this event. I have a list a half a mile long I am trying to get thru.

Tony, you are better off just getting new rotors than turning warped ones. Once you turn them, they will warp again, just a lot quicker than last time. Think about it like this.... when you turn them, you aren't taking the warpage (?) out of them, just truing them up while warped.

10:00 PM?! I was hoping for like 8:00 or something so I wouldn't have to stay at tech too long. :D j/k

I am camping. I'll be freezing, but Jimmy, and a friend of his (maybe) and I will be in a tent for the weekend...

What time can we get in on Friday? I would prefer to leave the car there while I help tech at the hotel.

Okee....
Just letting you know it's fine with us.

Anyway..........the alignment guy just dropped the car off. We were almost DEAD ON with with Camber. Car was toed out 1/2 inch in front, and 3/4 inch in back. Camber wasn't too bad in back. He was impressed that we got the camber so close. He said I must have nailed a pothole in the rear because the toe rod was bent, but he said just leave it until I have to replace some of the other bushings, etc.

He told me to shake it down this weekend, then bring it back next week so we can see how it's holding up.

Also, on the first turn after the kink, I was thinking I needed to use more track, but noticed that Bryan stuck to the left side and did not track all the way out. Any comments?

That is a video of 2 years ago. Brian was on the last lap of a race and was taking it pretty easy. The line is a good one though. I'll let him comment more on his line.

The first turn after the kink is T11. The line I took there is more of a low horsepower or front wheel drive line (i.e. all the Miata's and Integra Type R's I've seen take that line). With a high horsepower car (a V8), you should in fact track out more (right side of track), rolling on the throttle to gain as much speed as you can on corner exit. In my car with a 3.73:1 rear screw, that is a 2nd gear corner. By the time I hit T12, I'm bumping up against the rev limiter. Because you are now so far right, you can enter T12 from track center or slightly left of center, depending on how much speed you are carrying into the corner. If you are carrying less speed and are able to, get all the way over track left. I think T12 is the only corner on the track that's a "throw away" in favor of a higher exit speed off of T11. I'd imagine that your Z06 will be very similar to my car, though I have yet to drive one.

nckissfan - my engine was cutting off on 2nd to 3rd gear shifts. Never figured out why, and it was frustrating me. That's part of the reason I was taking it easy on the last lap. Since I got hooked up with True Blue Performance and they helped with a new tune, I haven't had any of the cut off problems.

Will,

The SCMC website and bulletin board is being moved to our new server. The BB is being upgraded to the new version but we are trying to make it look as much like the old version that we can. Please be patient with us as this may cause some slight interruptions.

Thanks,

Tony
