I was towed out of the gravel at Summit Point in the fall (my first off) and the staff had a problem getting a good grip on my car when it was buried up to the tail pipes in pea gravel.
They first attempted to hook to a hole in the sheet metal under my bumper which, of course ripped open when they tried to pull and send the tow rope flying. They then wrapped the strap through the opening in my left rear wheel (95R) and dragged the car out by the wheel.
Anyone have tips for tow eye installation for front and rear of my 96? I don't mind them being visible but I don't want one that makes me look like a Jeep Wrangler.
I guess I need to weld or bolt something to the frame, but I'd like to learn what has worked well for others.

I have a set of tow/tie-down thingies I bought from Griggs when I had the banana. I never did put them on the car, so I'll sell them to you for the right price. To be honest though, you can make your own pretty easy.

Anyway, IIRC, the rear hooks get welded to the lower shock brackets and the front ones to the bottom, front of the k-member. They're probably better for tiedowns than for towing though.

Ideally, you want the hook to be visible when standing at the end of the car with a label pointing to them.

I'll be doing mine pretty soon Jimmy, I'll take pics. Hoover did some on his car that looked good. He's alittle busy but maybe he'll see this.

I haven't done them yet. I did see a Porsche with threaded eye bolts that looked like a great idea. I think I'll do that. Hopefully in the next couple of weeks.
