Air intake

I am going to install a Steeda Cobra R front end on my 99 Cobra. Where is the best place to purchace the cold air intake that hooks up to the opening in the front bumper??? Thanks, Harry.

I am not aware of anyone offering a cold air kit that ducts air ftom the front of the car to the air filter.

The 00R's just have a K&N filter located in the fender well, nothing special other than that.

OK. I thought I seen a Cobra R at a show that had air intake hose on front. Didnt look at it very much to check it out. Should have paid more attention. There is a Co. that makes a front air intake I think it may be March Performance. How do you feel about such air intakes, good or bad Ideal? Waste of time/money? Harry.

I found it. The ram air I saw is from March Performance. check it out at http://www.marchperf.com/pg32.html Mabie some of youins might have tried something like this. I dont know if it is worth it or not. Seems like it might be a good ideal? What do you all think?

Certainly looks like a great idea, but I have no idea how well it works. Might want to throw the question out to the general Cobra forum and see if there is anybody in there that has tried this setup.

I've built a copy of the 99-01 Cobra front fascia, and made the fog-light holes deeper to clamp on a 4" hose.

I then connected 4" SCAT tubing to the fascia, and ran it up to a 4" heating/cooling duct elbow from Home Depot.

I cut the air silencer end off, so I could squeeze the 4" elbow into the air silencer rubber boot, which expanded the boot quite a bit. This same elbow was of course connected to the SCAT tubing, in effect producing a ram air system.

The same could be done to the stock fog-light insert, you just need to adapt some 4" tubing to where the fog lights go (or on the Cobra R it's just a shallow hole).

Ive heard that its really hard to tell when these setups work and when they dont. March claims that you might not see gains on the dyno because since the car isnt actually moving it cannot benefit from that ram air effect. other than that I really dont know if they are worth while or not, personally id kinda be worried about excess debris going in, but i guess thats what the filter is for, but rainwater still would concern me.

Yeah , Ive had the same thoughts myself. I have heard that water will not hurt it. There are a lot of car with there scoops sticking out of the hood. Mabie someday when I got nothing to do and just want to spend some money and time I might try it. It may gain H.P. but you would probaly have to be going 70 MPH. Thanks . Harry.:thumbsup:

YOU CAN HURT THE MOTOR WITH WATER.. Just ask Big Daddy.He hydrolocked his 2001. i had a ram air setup a few years back on a '97 cobra and i had to clean air filter about every three weeks. (not on dirt roads either), so i don't think its worth it.
